What the hell had I been thinking?

No, it wasn’t my fault. Okay, maybe it was. I should’ve known better than drinking so much damn wine. I couldn’t handle alcohol, which was the reason why I avoided it as much as I could.

I already took some headache tablets, but they hadn’t kicked in yet.

Never again, I silently promised myself. The only drinking I’d do was on my own and locked safely inside my apartment. Shaking my head, I scrubbed the bowl a little harder than necessary.

My mind trailed off to this morning.

Seeing Severide naked. . .I shuddered and bit my lip. He looked great for someone his age, even though I’d insulted him. How old was he, though? Maybe in his late thirties?

Why are you so interested in his age?

I shrugged. I was just curious about the man, couldn’t I be? He took me to his home, undressed me, and put me to bed. Had he slept next to me in bed? I shook my head. We were strangers, so why on earth would he do that?

He was naked. He clearly dropped the towel to—

No, no, no! I forced the disturbing thoughts away and focused on what needed to be done, but it didn’t work. His image flashed through my mind, tall, firm, and completely naked. He was well-endowed, too.

Very, very well endowed.

Embarrassment flooded me when I felt wetness flood my panties. The truth was that I wanted another much closer look at that part of his body.

“Any more scrubbing and there will be nothing left of that bowl.”

I blinked and stared at the bowl. “I’m sorry, Lee.”

She handed me a dishtowel, which I used to dry my hands. Turning towards her, I gave her a small apologetic smile. Lee shook her head with her brows dipped into a frown.

My mouth dropped open when she suddenly reached out and pressed a hand against my forehead. I jerked away and glared at her.

“What are you doing?” I asked her.

“I’m making sure you don’t have a fever.” Lee’s eyes darted over my face. “You’re as red as a tomato, and you’re sweating. Are you okay?”

I swiped the back of my hand across my forehead and sighed. “I’m fine. Just have a headache.”

“It’s almost closing time.” She glanced at the watch. “I’ll close up.”

I was already shaking my head even before she’d finished her sentence. “No, I’m going to stay here until we both leave.”

Lee walked over to me and surprised me by wrapping her arms around me in a hug. The only person who always hugged me was Crystal.

But she wasn’t here anymore. Who was going to hug me now that she’s gone? Hugs from somebody else just didn’t feel the same as hers had.

Awkwardly patting her back, I squirmed until she let me go and turned my back on her. I didn’t want Lee to feel bad for bringing up old memories.

“You’ve been through hell these past few months, Albany. Take some rest. Go home and do whatever you usually do, or go away for the weekend or something.”

Once I was sure that my emotions were somewhat in control, I turned to face her and smiled.

“You know we’re busiest on weekends. You won’t be able to handle the—”

“I will.” She gave me a sheepish smile. “See, my cousin has been helping me out here. It’s only on weekends and I pay her with part of my salary.”

The smile slipped from my face. “When were you planning on telling me that?”

Her eyes dropped for a few seconds before darting back up to mine. Wringing her hands together, she shifted from foot to foot and bit her lip. Then she sighed and dropped her arms.

“Well, my aunt asked me to babysit and I couldn’t say no to her, so my cousin came with me to the bakery.” She paused. “People love her! They think that she’s adorable.”

“And how old is this adorable cousin of yours?”

“She’s fifteen.”

“Are you mad?” I yelled at her. “You can’t let a fifteen-year-old work in my shop! Do you have any idea how much trouble we’d be in if they found out that she’s working here? They’d close the bakery without second—”

“I know that,” Lee interrupted me. “Nobody knows that she’s getting paid. I told her that she shouldn’t tell anybody about it.” She glared at me. “I’m not stupid, Albany.”

I stared at her silently for a few minutes before I blew out a breath. I should probably forbid her from letting her fifteen-year-old cousin work in my bakery, but at the moment, I just couldn’t deal with it.

I wasn’t in the mood for dealing with anything. Nothing mattered at the moment.

Shaking my head, I pulled off my apron and hung it on the hook by the door before I walked out of the kitchen. At the moment, only a few people were occupying the tables.

I grabbed my phone and keys from under the register and then turned to face her. “I’m leaving just like you wanted.”

“Good. You look tired.”

Rolling my eyes, I walked around the counter but then paused and walked back over to her.

“Leave the shop closed this weekend. Put up a sign and make a believable excuse.”

Lee’s mouth had dropped open. She stared at me, making me shift from foot to foot. Why was she looking at me like that?

“Oh my god,” she breathed. “You’re being serious.”

“Yes. Is that going to be a problem or do—?”

“No, no,” she hastily reassured me. “No problem, I’ll do as you say.”

Nodding, I turned, but smiled at her over my shoulder. “Thank you, Lee.”

My eyes darted up and down the street as I exited the shop. The streets were buzzing with people. It was probably the usual weekend crowd looking for something fun to do.

Once upon a time, Crystal and I used to be part of that crowd, but after I opened the shop and we’d gained a good amount of customers, there hadn’t been time for late nights. Morbid thoughts filled my mind, making my shoulders sag.

I loved the days when all we did was sit at home watching awful movies.

That was a few weeks before she...

I gave myself a firm shake and almost ran to my car. Crystal was gone, and I needed to accept it. Nothing was going to bring her back, which meant that it was time for me to move on.

With a determination that kind of scared me, I got into my car and slammed the door shut. I knew exactly what I was going to do this weekend. I was going to sort through Crystal’s things and get rid of the stuff she’d want me to get rid of.

“What does it say?”Albany missed her period. She snuck out of the house, thinking nobody would notice, and then returned home with a brown paper bag she had hidden under her clothes, or tried to.There was a soft click, and then the door slowly opened. My eyes darted over her face, searching for her excitement, but I only found unshed tears in her eyes. Without a word, she turned back around and walked over to the basin where she stared down at the pregnancy test.Stepping into the bathroom, I closed the door. My eyes dropped to the test.“Negative,” she croaked. “I thought I was. I missed my period.”Wrapping my arms around her waist, I hugged her to my body as I lowered my chin to her shoulder. Our eyes locked in the mirror.“We will make an appointment with the doctor,” I told her. “These tests aren’t always accurate.”“It doesn’t matter.”“It does.” My hold tightened. “Your period is only a day late, cupcake. Let’s wait for a few more days and then take another test.”“W-What if

“The best time to get pregnant is when you’re ovulating and twenty-four hours after that…”I jerked upright and slammed the laptop shut when Thomas entered the kitchen. He hadn’t noticed me yet, which made me blow out a relieved breath. Walking over to the fridge, he opened it and stared at the contents for a few seconds, and then slammed the door shut again.“Are you going to make all of us spend quality time together?” he said, startling me.“Didn’t you have fun?”Thomas turned, hesitated a moment, and walked closer. “I love you and I love our family, but I don’t want you to force us to spend time together.”“Force you?” Steven entered, frowning at his brother. “It’s not like she held a gun to your head.”“Stay out of this.”Steven’s eyes narrowed.I tensed, waiting for a fight to break out. “I’m sorry,” I apologized before either of them could utter a word. “I just thought that it might be helpful. It just feels like you don’t talk as much as the others and I-”“We’re fine,” Thomas

FOUR YEARS AGO (CONTENT WARNING: TALK ABOUT PAST ABUSE AND ASSAULT)I rubbed my hands nervously on my pants. Sweat coated nearly every inch of my skin, making my clothes stick to me. I tugged on my shirt and shuffled nervously from foot to foot. My eyes locked on him as he moved around the room, studying everything from the furniture to the photos on the wall.“This is cool,” he muttered. “I wish my parents would let me do something like this in our basement.”“It took a lot of convincing,” I told him. “We might have conspired against them. I made sure to play my video games extra loud and then argued that if we had the space down here, they wouldn’t hear it.”He laughed. “Smart.”“Do you want to play?” I pointed towards the TV and beanbags.“Sure.”We got seated and started playing. A moment later, I found him next to me, our bodies brushing as we played. My heartbeat increased with every touch. It became increasingly difficult to concentrate, and I wasn’t sure if he was feeling the s

The five of us were all seated around the huge Christmas tree Severide got for us. I smiled as I remembered our trip into town to buy our own decorations. All of us together, hopefully the first of many more trips to come. Of course, we had to endure hours of strange and sometimes disgusting looks from the other people who were shopping. And I wasn’t going to lie by saying that it might have gotten to me. For a few seconds, I had looked at things from their perspective, but then I looked at my men and I remembered how lucky I was to have them. They were my family, and I would want to trade them for anything. Sure, the ride had been rough. When one year passed after our breakup, I expected the worst. I feared that I might never see them again. While I was busy building my bakery, I had kept track of them as much as I could. I was tempted to go to Kieran’s gym opening, but I hadn’t been ready to face them, so I read about it in the newspaper and drooled over them in the photos, until I

I raised my head and looked over my shoulder at her. “Then you better come closer.”She was next to us in an instant, taking a seat on the edge of the bed, her eyes trailing over Severide and then me. Albany swallowed, her lips parted like she wanted to say something, but she remained silent.I turned my focus back to Severide’s cock. Wrapping my hand around the base, I tilted it up and took him into my mouth. Inch by inch, I took him deeper until the head of his cock finally hit the back of my throat.“Shit, Kieran.” It was the only warning I had before he exploded.I swallowed his cum and then cleaned every drop from his cock before I straddled his thighs and gripped my cock. Albany leaned forward and rested her head on Severide’s stomach. I smiled at her when she opened her mouth.Shifting closer, I guided my cock towards her mouth. Her tongue darted out to collect the precum from my tip. Sucking in a breath, I pushed my hips forward, sinking deeper into the warmth of her mouth.Tw

I raised my hand but froze as doubt flooded my mind. The only thing I had planned was to talk to Severide about what Albany wanted. We were doing all this for her anyway, which was the only thing I had to go on.But I hadn’t even considered the fact that he might not agree to this.Shaking my head, I opened the door and entered the room without knocking. I came to a shocked halt when my eyes locked on him.Severide’s cheeks flooded with colour as he reached for the sheets. I smirked at him and kicked the door closed behind me, and leaned back against it.“We’ve seen each other naked before,” I muttered.“Get out,” he hissed, ignoring my comment.I raised an eyebrow at him. “I’m sorry for interrupting. Were you close?”Severide sneered at me as he got up from the bed and, with the sheets clutched around his hips, stormed into the bathroom. The door slammed shut behind him so hard that the paintings on the wall vibrated from the force.Closing my eyes, I allowed my head to drop back aga

Kieran wasn’t answering the door.Unease gripped me when I knocked again, and there was no reply from him. He had drank wine with us when we were at Albany’s, and it worried me. Dinner was a bust. Not only had the twins shown up bruised and obviously pissed at each other, but Severide was late because he was on a conference call, and I apparently couldn’t eat food I’d never eaten before. So, the short version, I got food poisoning, which delayed the trip and made us stay i

Kieran drove slowly like he had promised me he would, but even then, I couldn’t just shake away the fear of being on the back of his bike. I actually felt sick. I made the suggestion of using our truck, but Severide instantly turned it down. We didn’t know if the weather would stay the same, and since it was a single cab, the five of us wouldn’t all fit in the front. So, Severide was in charge of organizing the wheels while Thomas was getting everything we
