"Janet, I want to be the project lead for our collaboration with the Luxton family. I just need this one achievement to be promoted to deputy general manager."

The moment I heard that familiar line, my whole body trembled. I looked at the clock on the wall and realized instantly that I had reincarnated.

Chris Kennedy tugged at my sleeve.

"Janet, did you hear Shirley? Give her the project lead position. She needs this more than you."

I recalled them saying the same thing in the previous lifetime.

Back then, I rejected them immediately. The project's financing hit billions. It was crucial to the company, and if we secured it, the company could go public.

Since Shirley Johnson's abilities were lacking, I refused to let her take charge. I told her that once the project succeeded, everyone would be promoted and receive bonuses anyway.

Chris yanked me hard again. "Janet, what are you thinking? Did you hear me? Give the project lead position to Shirley!"

Seeing the impatience on Chris's face, I let out a cold chuckle.

"When my hair started falling out from working day and night on this project, I asked Shirley to help. You both said that since I was the project lead, I should be doing more. When I drank until my stomach bled just to impress our partners, you said it was my responsibility as the lead."

Thinking about everything I had sacrificed for, I looked at Shirley with open sarcasm.

"So, where were you then? Why didn't you step up to be the project lead? Now that I've finished the proposal, secured the partnership, and we're down to signing the contract, you suddenly want the title? Shirley, how do you even have the nerve to say that?"

"Janet, it's because my family's poor. I just wanted a promotion so I could support them. My mom said if I didn't make money, she'd sell me to some old man in the mountains to get money for my brother."
