LAURA POV
The sound of me stumbling back caught his attention, and he narrowed in my direction. His gaze was just too hot and intimidating that I nearly fainted from his gaze.
When he turned and spotted me, his expression darkened.
“Ms. Laura,” he said, his voice dangerously low.
"I... I don't...," I stammered, my mind racing to find an excuse, but the fear paralyzing me held my thoughts captive. I tried to escape, but just like the speed of light, I was caged in between him and the wall from behind. His hot breath hit my neck from behind.
“Come here,” he ordered, cutting me off.
My feet moved before my brain could catch up, carrying me closer to him.
My heart beat crazily against my chest as I felt him so close, with his manhood directly making contact with my butt.
"You don't get to leave so fast Ms.Laura," his thick husky voice made me wet on my panties almost instantly.
How did he manage to get my name after our first encounter? I had never felt so flushed in my entire life as I turned towards him with cheeks as red as tomatoes. He had a silly smirk on his face.
"You don't get to leave until we have this conversation," he declared, as he bolted the door of the changing room, and walked towards the table while shamelessly taking off his belt like I wasn't in front of him.
If I used to think Mr Finch looked handsome in his office, then I wasn't ready for how dreamy the man looked half naked with his pants dangerously below his waist. Especially his eyes, the man looked almost unreal.
"I don't think I have anything to discuss with you, sir," I stuttered as my eyes moved from the stud on his ears to the diamond rings on his fingers.
“You saw too much,” he said, his eyes locked on mine intimidatingly.
“I swear, I won’t tell anyone,” I blurted out, panic seeping into my voice.
He studied me for a moment, then smirked. “You’d better not. For your sake.”
He continued, "It is not a surprise that you know who I am. After all, I believe we have met," as he tucked both hands in the pocket of his pants.
"I work for you, and I was the one that brought you coffee...." I responded, and he raised his eyebrows. He didn't seem to be intrigued by the information.
He chuckled softly, the sound both mocking and unnervingly captivating. "Do you think your little errand matters to me? You’ve seen too much, Ms. Laura. That alone makes this very personal."
His words were a warning, and I didn’t miss the threat laced in them. Still, the question nagging at me escaped before I could stop it.
"Why would someone like you, wealthy and powerful, need to strip at a club? It doesn’t make sense," I blurted out.
His expression darkened instantly, his gaze icy as he took a threatening step closer. "It’s not supposed to make sense to you because it’s none of your business!"
I flinched at his tone, but the stubborn part of me refused to back down. "It may not be my business, but I saw you," I said, my voice shaking.
His jaw tightened, and for a brief moment, he seemed caught off guard. Then he let out a humourless laugh. "Blackmail? How predictable."
"I didn’t say that!" I retorted quickly, but he was already advancing on me.
"People like you," he sneered, his voice dripping with hatred. "Always clawing for an advantage, scrambling for scraps, thinking you can rise above your station."
"Maybe I am," I shot back, my heart beating rapidly.
"The world revolves around those who take what they want," he said, his smirk growing.
"And people like you that are scrambling for scraps will never understand that." he completely.
"Excuse me," I muttered, attempting to take control of the situation, though the smirk on his face told me he wasn’t fooled.
"I will not resign," I informed.
"Why, if I may ask?" Mr Finch laughed, and asked, as he narrowed his eyes at me.
"If you're planning to syphon more money from me, then you clearly don't know who you're messing with," he uttered.
For a moment, he was silent, his eyes narrowing as though he were sizing me up. Then he smiled, a cold, calculating smile that sent a chill down my spine.
"Very well," he said finally. "Let’s make a deal."
"A deal?" I echoed, my voice barely steady.
"Yes," he replied. "You keep quiet about what you saw tonight, and I’ll..." He trailed off, leaning in so close I could feel the heat radiating from him. "Let you keep your precious job."
I felt my breath hitch as his lips brushed against my ear. "But don’t think for a second that I trust you, Ms. Laura. I’ll be watching."
I hated the fact that I wasn't controlling my emotions around this arrogant man.
"Get out!" He snapped, and I gave him a long last look before walking out of the dressing room. I slowly walked back to the club too shocked to even say anything.
"Where were you, babe? I thought something bad happened to you," Kora uttered worriedly, as we made our way out of the club.
"Don't tell me you decided to get yourself some good man because you look flushed," she mumbled, and I remembered how his front caused some sweet sensations to my body.
"I just want to get some sleep," I muttered, too tired to even stop and think about the day's events.
I arrived home quite late, and I went straight to my room. As I lay down to sleep the memories of the entire night came rushing into my head. What have I gotten myself into??
The next morning, I freshened up and wore a black skirt that hugged me in the right places and a decent dress shirt. Making sure to look very professional, Paired it with nude coloured heels and my glasses.
I walked in on Kora making breakfast.
"Are you up and ready for work?" she asked, as she served pancakes on my table.
"I can't go to work after last night's event, my head bangs with headache," she uttered, and I chuckled as I sat on the chair next to her.
"You need to stock up your kitchen girl. I couldn't find anything useful," she said, and I just sighed softly.
"I know things are hard, but forget all your debt and try to live healthy," she advised, and I just smiled.
After breakfast, I got out and boarded a taxi to Premium Trust.
Immediately I got to my desk, they filled it up with files to work on. I felt the urge to just cry. The day is already killing me, even if it has not gotten anywhere, how am I supposed to come with all of this?
I moved to the Cafe, got myself coffee and decided to go ahead with my day.
"Laura honey," Ms. Anthony called, as she gave me a warm smile, I knew she was on a mission to send me on an errand.
"The boss wants you to get him coffee, just like you did the other day, you can keep the change," she said, as she dropped some notes on the table.
My mind went back to our encounter at the club, and my throat immediately went dry. The memory of Mr. Finch’s words flooded my mind. Why did he want coffee now? What game was he playing?
I fetched the coffee with shaking hands and made my way to his office. Standing outside the door, I took a deep breath, trying to steady my nerves.
"Come in," his deep voice called from within.
I stepped inside, keeping my gaze fixed on the floor.
"Are you planning to stand there all day, or will you serve the coffee?" he asked, his tone sharp.
My hands trembled as I moved toward his desk. But as I reached to set the cup down, my foot caught on something.
Time seemed to slow as the cup tipped, its contents spilling across his desk and soaking several important looking files.
"Jeez," I muttered, scared.
The room fell deathly silent, and I dared to look up, meeting Mr. Finch’s furious gaze.
What had I done now?
LAURA'S POV We returned to the city after that weekend, and the whole family was happy about the news, especially his mom and friends. The plans for our wedding went on with full force. Bryan and I wanted something simple, by the sea with family and friends, that was it. A few days before my wedding, I noticed I was seriously sick. I couldn't eat anything because the moment it got in my stomach, I threw it all up. I couldn't even leave the bed. Bryan was out of the country with Oscar for business otherwise, he would be worried sick. "Babe, get off the bed, we are supposed to go cake tasting today," Kora complained. "I can't... I feel so weak... my boobs ache a bit, they feel so full..." I murmured weakly. "What?" Julie inquired, and I rubbed my forehead. "Have you eaten something? Besides, you're burning up pretty badly." "I throw up the minute it gets in my stomach," I replied, and she gasped. "When was the last time you saw your periods?" she probed, and I stared at her. "I
BRYAN'S POV It's been two weeks since the incident with Mikoy and the rest. Laura hasn't been herself, she's been quiet, and the nightmares have moved to a whole new level. It hurt me because it felt like the devil still controlled her happiness from the land of the dead. She has been seeing a therapist, and we are hoping for positive results. I just want my woman to be okay, and maybe a change of environment for a while would help, I thought calmly. "What are you thinking about?" she inquired while walking into our room. It's crazy how I went into a state of confusion when I found out Ruby was not mine. I did a DNA test and I'm waiting for the results. "About you, about us... I think we need space from everything, love," I stated, and she looked at me in confusion as I held her hand. "Let's go out of the country for a while," I suggested, and she stared at my face. "But what about our daughter...?" she trailed off, and my heart warmed at her ability to always create spa
AUTHOR'S POINT OF VIEW "Sylvia didn't commit suicide. The annoying thing is the fact that she was murdered right under our nose," Oscar declared angrily as he fixed his tie. "Who killed her then?" Chase inquired as he took a drag from his smoke. "Her former boss," he replied, rubbing his forehead. "Madam Valencia?" Bryan cursed under his breath as he looked away. How she managed to get her men into the estate was definitely something to worry about. "She didn't send her men, she paid one of our men to do it, then sent a letter of apology after her job was done," Oscar responded as he threw the envelope. "And the fucker that betrayed us?" Bryan inquired. "Nowhere to be found for now. I think he went into hiding." "I always knew she wasn't stupid enough to take her own life. Too bad her past came back at her," Trenton commented, shaking his head. "Enough of Sylvia. Tonight is Cindy's party. Everyone must stick to the plan. I want this over. I've had enough of their madness," B
LAURA'S POVBryan smiled softly as he looked in my direction. I returned the same hearty smile to him.The meeting moved from dinner to the discussion of our plans and how things would be done."Cindy is already a fool right now when it comes to me, so letting me into her party is gonna be the easiest thing to do," Trenton spoke up, telling us his plan."So Laura is gonna be the bait?" Bryan inquired immediately after I came into the picture."It's a brilliant idea," I uttered before he would say no."Brilliant idea? My love, you can't face that bastard. Remember how it turned out the last time?" He questioned, concern written all over his face."How long will I keep running, love? It's high time I face my past and put an end to Mikoy once and for all, so I'm in," I declared firmly, and he sighed softly without saying anything else.He was angry, but I'd deal with his drama later. We can't add that to the list of our numerous problems.Trenton chipped in, "This time around, we have to
BRYAN'S POVThey used to have a romantic relationship in the past? If it really isn't something to be worried about, why didn't she tell me? I wondered as I ran my fingers through my hair with a frown on my face."Don't tell me you're still thinking about that stuff," Trenton nudged me on the arm as we walked toward our rooms."I can't help myself," I replied, and he chuckled."Talk to her, then. Don't let doubt creep in. This is the time when you both need each other the most, man," he urged, and I nodded as he walked in the opposite direction.I walked to my room, and there she was, in her nightwear with Ruby in her arms."Hey, love," she greeted with a bright smile on her face.I couldn't return the smile, though, even if I tried, my mind kept going back and forth."My crown," she called, and I sighed softly."Why didn't you tell me you used to have a past with Cris?" I inquired, and she turned to me in confusion."Are we still talking about him, love? I told you, there's no need t
LAURA'S POV"He asked about Cris," I told my best friend, and Kora stared at me."And what did you tell him?" she questioned while folding some clean towels."Nothing, I didn't tell him. What would I have told him?" I frowned, even the thought kept a rotten feeling in my stomach."At least, Cris used to work for you, so he would let it slide. You don't know how men can be," she chuckled."Cris used to like me so much, there was a time we even kissed, like, made out," I said, scratching my neck nervously."Wait, did you guys sleep together?" she exclaimed, her jaw literally dropping."No, no, bestie, what would make you even think that?" I replied, and she raised both hands in surrender."Don't blame me, baby girl, that guy is smoking hot..." She trailed off."Plus, you guys used to make out in the past," she teased, and my cheeks heated up in embarrassment."Kora..." I whined, and she burst out laughing."Chill, it was in the past. Bryan also had a relationship with Sylvia, they even
