LOGINAria’s POV
Woah, I look so good. I stared at my reflection in the mirror. The dress hugged every curve perfectly. I looked stunning. It was a stunning black dinner gown that complemented my figure perfectly. I looked beautiful. I slipped on my heels, fixing my hair one last time before grabbing my clutch. For a second, I just stood there staring at myself. “You look hot,” I said out loud, then I sighed. Unfortunately, it’s for the wrong reasons. For the next two to three hours, I’m going to be flashing fake smiles and doing that hand in hand with my least favorite person in the world. Hey, at least Liam is going to be there I stepped out of the room and immediately froze. Nathan was already there. And holy fuck, he looked really good, wait no, Aria, stop, he can’t look good. For Christ's sake, that’s your annoying, stupid husband. But damn, he looked good. I’d never say that to his face tho. Rather, chew a jean jacket than tell him he looked good. “You’re staring,” he said, not even looking up from adjusting his watch. “I’m not,” I replied quickly, fixing my hair. “You are.” “I’m really not.” The nerve of this guy. And so even if I was looking, he had no right to say it. He looked up, and his gaze landed on me. “You look beautiful “ he said. “Thank you, you look decent,” I replied, trying to sound nonchalant. “Decent? You really are something “ he murmured, shaking his head. “I scoffed. “You’re such an asshole.” Did he expect a compliment or something? Over my dead body. The car ride was silent. I didn’t say a word to Nathan, and he didn’t say anything to me either. I kept checking my phone every few seconds, waiting for a message from Liam. Still nothing. “Relax,” Nathan said. “I am relaxed,” I replied without looking at him. “You’ve checked your phone five times in the last minute.” “So? Mind your business.” “My business is sitting right next to me, acting like she’s about to jump out of the car because a guy is not replying” I set my phone away, and everywhere fell silent again, and I kept staring out the window till we arrived at the venue. I wanted to leave the moment we arrived. The venue hall was packed with a lot of people and media reporters. The second we stepped inside, his hand went to my lower back, and I stiffened immediately. “Don’t do that, take your hands off me,” I whispered. “People are watching,” he said. “I don’t care.” “I do.” “Of course you do.” I forced a smile as someone walked past us, nodding like I was actually enjoying myself. I was not in the slightest way enjoying myself. “Mr. Cross.” A man approached us, shaking Nathan’s hand while staring at me intently. What a creep. “And this must be your wife,” the man said, taking my hand and kissing it. His eyes lingered on my body for too long. “She’s very beautiful,” He added. Nathan cleared his throat and released my hands, entwining his hands with mine. After some small talk, the man left, and I released myself from Nathan’s grip. “I need a drink” “The bar is over there. Go get something,” he replied. Such an asshole. He didn’t even offer to get it for me. Some husband he is. I walked over to the bar and ordered a drink. “Make it quick,” I muttered, tapping my fingers against the counter. “Impatient much?” I turned at the familiar voice and sighed in relief. “Liam!” “Missed me?” he grinned. “Obviously, I’m so bored here.” He looked me over, nodding. “You look nice.” “I know, right?” I said, taking my drink. He laughed. “Where’s your husband? I haven’t seen him at all since I got here.” “He should be around here somewhere, ah right there with those men over there” “Sounds about right.” We spent time just talking, and I narrated what happened on the day of the wedding that ended up with me being Nathan’s wife. “Sucks to be you,” Liam said, shaking his head. “Tell me about it. I’m really glad you came,” I said, taking a sip. “You sounded like you were on the verge of losing your mind earlier. I just had to come.” “I still am,” I replied in a bored tone. He laughed. “What did he do this time?” “His existence alone irritates me.” “Fair,” Liam replied, laughing. “Dance with me?” Liam said suddenly, holding out his hand. Of course,” I said immediately taking his hand. “No.” I didn’t even have to turn around to know that voice. I closed my eyes in annoyance, turning around to see Nathan staring daggers at Liam. This man again, can’t he just leave me alone? “Don’t you ever get tired of being annoying?” Nathan stepped closer, his expression unreadable. “Do you ever get tired of being difficult?” “No.” “Clearly.” I looked at Liam, then back at Nathan. “I’m dancing.” “With me,” Nathan added, taking my hand away from Liam’s. I blinked. “Excuse me? Don’t you know it’s rude to interrupt two people” “Not if that person is my wife and you came here with me.” “And?” “And you’re not dancing with him, that’s final.” I stared at him for a second, then laughed. He must be really crazy if he thinks he can control who I’m gonna dance with. I shook Nathan’s grip off me and grabbed Liam’s hand anyway. “Come on,” I said, pulling Liam towards the dance floor. Before we could even take a step, Nathan’s hand wrapped around my wrist again. “What the hell?” I snapped, trying to pull away. “Don’t,” he said quietly. “Don’t what?” “Push me.” People were starting to stare now, and I could feel Liam getting uncomfortable. I don’t want him getting caught in this, so I let go of his hand and yanked myself free from Nathan’s grip. “Fine, I’m not dancing with anyone, happy?” Nathan’s Jaw clenched, and he looked like he wanted to say something, but he just ignored me and walked away. Everyone in the room turned to stare at me like somehow this was all my fault. Great. Public humiliation, just exactly how I wanted tonight to go.Liam’s POV Aria has been missing. Those four words were enough to make my stomach twist every time I remembered it. I already knew. That was the worst part. While Nathan was probably tearing the entire city apart looking for his wife, I was sitting in my bedroom pretending everything was normal. I couldn’t even remember the last time I had felt this guilty. Aria trusted me. She called me when she was angry, when she was happy, when she needed someone to complain to, and even when she just wanted to talk shit about Nathan. She had no idea that I was keeping things from her, things that could completely change the way she looked at me. And now she was gone. Taken. I dragged a hand down my face and looked across the room at Hailey. She wasn’t there. I frowned. A few seconds later, I heard the bathroom door open, and Hailey quietly stepped out with her phone pressed against her ear. She immediately looked toward me. Then she turned away. That caught my a
Aria’s POV When I opened my eyes again, the first thing I felt was the pain in my head. It was throbbing so badly that I squeezed my eyes shut again, trying to remember what the hell had happened, but the moment I moved my hands, the ropes around my wrists reminded me exactly where I was. I was still here. Still trapped. Still tied up. My breathing immediately became uneven as I looked around, but there was barely anything to see because the room was almost completely dark, the only light coming from somewhere underneath the door, and even that was so faint that it barely helped. I swallowed hard. “Nathan?” Nothing. I tried again, louder. “Nathan!” My voice echoed around the room and disappeared into the darkness. Nobody answered. I pulled against the ropes, my wrists already sore from struggling earlier, but I didn’t care about the pain anymore, I just wanted to get out of here, I wanted someone to hear me, I wanted anyone to know where I was. “Help!” I screamed as lo
Aria’s POV When I opened my eyes, I couldn’t see anything. Nothing. It was so fucking dark that for a few seconds I genuinely couldn’t tell if my eyes were open or closed, and I just lay there staring into the darkness, trying to understand where the hell I was, my head still pounding from whatever had happened in the garden. I tried to move and immediately felt the rough surface underneath me, cold against my skin, and the moment I shifted my hands, I realized my wrists were still tied. My heart started beating faster. “Nathan?” My voice came out small and shaky, and the silence that followed made everything worse. “Nathan?” Nothing. I swallowed hard and tried again, louder this time. “Is anyone there?” Still nothing. I could barely hear myself breathing, and that scared me more than anything because the room felt completely sealed off, like whoever had brought me here had made sure there wasn’t a single sound from the outside that could reach me. I pulled at the ropes
Liam’s POV I knew something was wrong the second Hailey walked through my front door. She didn’t even say hello, she just stood there staring at me with tears already running down her face, her chest rising and falling like she’d been running, and for a few seconds I honestly thought something had happened to her because I’d never seen her look that scared before. “Hailey?” She opened her mouth, but nothing came out. I immediately got up from the couch and walked toward her, “Baby, what happened?” She shook her head, wiping her cheeks with the back of her hand, but more tears immediately replaced the ones she’d wiped away. “Where’s Aria?” The question hit me strangely. “What about Aria?” Hailey looked at me, and the second our eyes met, I knew whatever she was about to say was going to be bad. “She’s been taken.” I stared at her. “What?” “Aria…” Her voice broke, and she covered her mouth as she started crying again. “Someone took Aria.” For a second, I couldn’t move. M
Nathan’s POV I knew something was wrong the moment I walked through the front door and Aria wasn’t there. It wasn’t unusual for her to disappear into the garden when she wanted some fresh air, especially after spending most of the day inside, but normally she would tell someone where she was going, or I’d get some stupid little text from her saying she was bored and needed to escape before she started annoying me on purpose, and when I asked one of the guards where she was, the man looked at me like he’d been waiting for that question. “She went to the garden, sir.” I glanced toward the hallway, then back at him, “How long ago?” “About twenty minutes.” Twenty minutes. Something about the way he said it made my stomach twist, although I couldn’t explain why, so I pulled out my phone and called her. Once. Nothing. I called again. Still nothing. “Where’s her phone?” I asked. The guard hesitated, “I don’t know, sir.” I stared at him. “What the fuck do you mean you don’t kno
Aria’s POV I had no idea how long I had been walking around the garden, I just knew I needed some air because the house had suddenly started feeling too quiet, and after everything that had been happening lately, I had gotten into the habit of checking my phone every few minutes like the next call from the person who claimed to know where Alexa was could come at any second. The evening breeze felt nice against my skin as I walked slowly along the garden path, my hands tucked into the pockets of my hoodie while I looked at the flowers Nathan’s mother had complimented the last time she visited, and for the first time all day, my mind wasn’t completely filled with questions about Alexa, Nathan’s secrets, Sophia, Liam, or every other damn thing that had been making my life feel like some kind of badly written mystery. I smiled to myself when I remembered Nathan earlier, because the man had spent almost ten minutes arguing with me about stealing his hoodie when I had literally told him
