Isabella

There was absolutely no kind of warning that could have prepared me for Travis' reaction to crazy Puerto's decision to come looking for me outside a ladies room.

Granted even Travis was not supposed to be here right now with me but knowing him for his person there was no way he was respecting any law that stated that he had to watch himself around me anytime soon or at all.

“Isabella, I know you're in there and I'm not leaving until I talk to you in person so come out right now.”

What a fool he was. He just made things worse even without trying so hard because at this point I really wondered what it was that gave him the mind that he could simply demand to see me after what he had done.

He wanted me gone and I'd granted his wish but here he was being a mess and causing trouble for me in a very public event.

I was still trying to separate the stimulation I was feeling with Travis hell bent on making me scream even though it wasn't proper and it was a very public event when he bit my ear and spoke clearly to me: “You can try Isabella but you won't be holding your moans back for him because he came here not respecting the fact that you aren't his anymore so whatever he hears today, he'd have to deal with but no matter how hard you try to hold back, it won't work because I am just about getting started and I won't be calm about this so buckle up for the ride of your life sweetheart.”

I used my right hand to hold my mouth to stifle the moan that I was about to release but Travis never gave me enough grace nor consideration to be modest because I knew that anyone who passed by would definitely know that there was a woman presently getting fucked senseless by a man.

Being the devil he was, after he withdrew and stayed out of me for he simply slammed back into me as I immediately gripped the zinc and screamed as he kept a very fast pace while pulling my hair with one hand and using his other hand to play with my boobs and there was absolutely nothing soft about him in that moment as he kept me high.

I could hardly tell the difference between reality and delusion as I had lost my voice and touch of reality as he fucked me to no ends without mercy.

“You are absolutely mine now Isabella. He had his turn but he never wanted you so I'm stepping in and I wouldn't be letting go ever again so it's his loss not mine.”

I could hear Puerto's harsh breathing outside the door and I could almost feel him clenching his hands but he'd brought it all on himself hence I couldn't even feel sorry for his ass because he deserved this and so much worse.

How do you abandon and throw away a person but want to come back as if nothing happened or develop some stupid severe obsession for someone you claimed you never wanted anymore.

After what felt like ages of highs and lows, I had my beautiful orgasm, exhaled in tiredness and exhaustion as Travis finally came but I wasn't even sure that I could stand on my own two feet at that moment.

I rested my head against Travis' shoulder and yawned as I saw my very messy hair and puffy eyeballs that were caused by my repeated tears in the throes of passion.

He brought out a little handkerchief as he calmly cleaned me up but he put my panties in his pocket and helped me adjust and fix my hair.

He fixed my make up and helped adjust my dress but I couldn't possibly stand on my own and I was already dizzy at that moment.

He carried me like a bride and walked towards the door with me but when we got to the entrance, we met no one and at that moment I had simply drifted off to sleep as I adjusted my body and held on even more tightly to his neck.

I had no idea what had happened or how we'd arrived at home but at some point during the night I had woken up in our bedroom at home.

I yawned and stretched but my body was crazy sore as I groaned and slept back with the covers pulled over my head.

I was not in the mood of seeing anyone or even ready to entertain the thought of seeing anyone around me for the rest of the night.

Travis had acted out of jealousy and being the master of mixed signals that he was, he'd left me in bed alone to be wherever he wanted to be.

He blew hot and cold since I'd met him but who was I kidding? He had saved my ass back then which was why I'd agreed to this union but the more time I spent with Travis Vanguard, the more I wondered if I had made the right decision choosing him.

I badly wanted to be able to go back to a dream world and just get into the dream world but I couldn't even manage that so I stared into the roof of the room and exhaled.

I eventually stood up and walked quietly to the kitchen where I met a group of unsuspecting maids chirping away because they had not noticed my presence. They seemed so lost in whatever it was that they were talking about.

“I hope you all realise that the Alpha would never fully accept her right? He might mark her, breed her and do whatever he wanted with her but he'd never love or care for her like he did her.”

Who on earth were they talking about? Who had he loved at some point and did that explain his unusual hot and cold habit whilst dealing with me?

I had so many questions but I never dared to ask these questions from anyone. I turned back swiftly to the room before they noticed my presence.

TravisThe burgundy had sat untouched on the sideboard for an hour after Karina left, and I did not stop looking at it until I had drunk myself past the point where looking mattered. She had refused to say more. She set down her glass, laid two fingers against my sleeve, and told me that a woman who had lived five years in a house with no windows had learned to ration her truths like water in a desert. The body in my mother’s coffin had never been viewed by anyone who loved her, she said, and the person who might still explain why was not yet safe to name. Then she had walked out and left the lift doors sighing shut behind her, and I had poured the first whisky without noticing that my hand was shaking.By eleven o’clock the study smelled of peat and cold ashes, and I sat on the floor with my back against the desk and Isabella’s emerald ring clenched in my fist until its setting bit into my palm. I had told myself that the performance was neces

The ShowerElianaThe invitations had gone out on cream card embossed with silver storks, and Mrs. Moore had personally written every address in her spidery copperplate hand. The shower was to be held at the Hampstead house on a grey Sunday afternoon, and she had spent four days preparing it with the grim intensity of a woman rallying a failing army. Thirty-five guests had accepted, which she considered a triumph, and which I considered evidence that London’s matrons had missed the drama of a Moore scandal more than they feared its contagion. The drawing room had been transformed with swags of pale yellow tulle and bowls of white freesia, and a table along the window groaned beneath a pyramid of boxes wrapped in pastel paper.I sat in a high-backed chair at the head of the room like a queen receiving tribute, wearing a flowing lemon silk dress that hid the extra weight of the pad at my waist. I had redesigned the apparatus three times since the hosp

IsabellaThe house in Kensington was so quiet that I could hear the sound of my own blood. It stood at the end of a pale terrace behind a high wall of wisteria, five storeys of cream stucco and tall windows that looked onto a private garden. Scott’s family had owned it since the Regency, and every room bore the faint polish of centuries of care, the soft glow of old wood and the dull gleam of silver that no one had ever needed to display. A housekeeper in a grey cardigan, who introduced herself as Mrs. Pargeter’s niece, had received me at the door with a hot water bottle and a warm and wordless smile, and she had shown me to a bedroom on the second floor where a fire already burned.I had expected to feel safe, and I had expected the safety to be a relief. Instead I stood in the middle of the blue carpet with my case at my feet and a strange hollow ache beneath my ribs, and I realised after several minutes that it was the stillness itself that fright

TravisThe emerald had not stopped glittering since she left it, and I had not stopped looking at it.I sat at the console table in the dim foyer with my elbows on my knees and the ring in the centre of my palm, turning it so that the facets caught the light and threw small green shards across the ceiling. It was still faintly warm, and I told myself that this was the heat of the lamp, because the alternative was a kind of weakness that I could not afford. The penthouse had never been so silent, and the sound of the lift descending with her inside it had lodged in my ears like a note from a cracked bell.I had done the only thing that I could do, and I had done it with all the grace of a man amputating his own arm. The seal on the cream envelope that Hale carried to a courier an hour earlier bore my father’s falcon, and the message inside it was a lie addressed to the Baron. I had written that I was a broken man with a failing marriage and a traitor in my

IsabellaThe summons came on the second evening after our return from Switzerland, and it was delivered by Hale, who stood in the doorway of the dressing room with his eyes fixed on a point just above my head.I had spent the two days since the storm lifted in a state of brittle calm that frightened even me. The mountain tower above Montreux had led Scott and the guards to an abandoned shepherd’s hut with a stove still warm and a single tin cup on the table, and nothing else except a tiny crescent drawn in the dust of the windowsill. Beatrix had been there and gone within the hour, and Scott had stood in that bare room with his hand pressed flat against the wall as though he could feel her pulse through the wood. I had watched him from the doorway and had understood that grief and hope can wear the same face.Travis had returned from London the day before me, and he had barely spoken since. He moved through the penthouse like a man carrying a full glass across a crowded room, and he s

HaleDorian Hale had performed a thousand sweeps of a thousand rooms in thirty years, and he had never once dreaded opening a drawer until that evening. It was the routine inspection that he conducted every Thursday at dusk, a ritual he had begun after the second attempt on Travis’s life. He moved through the penthouse with a handheld scanner and a notebook, checking windows and ventilation shafts and the undersides of tables, and the staff had long since learned to step aside with polite blankness. He had saved the dressing room for last, because he disliked intruding on its quiet, and he stood a moment in the doorway before entering, watching the soft light play on a row of folded silks. The guard who had reported the smell of smoke from the closet had come to him an hour earlier, a pale young man named Kellan with a nervous tic beneath his left eye. He had said that he thought something was smouldering, and he had said it in the stiff careful tone of a boy reciting a lesson, and Ha
