Chapter 2

Ryan was busy with some documents in his office when Leonard swaggered in. "Yo man! The biggest playboy and business man in the district! How are ya doing?" He said on the top of his voice.

Ryan sighed this Leonard is such a handful! "Leo this your English you will be arrested for it soon" he teased putting the documents away.

 Leonard slumped on a sofa "who cares about how i speak? By the way, where are we going to buzz?"

 He asked. "Buzz? Don't you have work to do? I wonder why your company hasn't folded up" Ryan teased. "How can i fold up when i have you as a friend? Your name alone attracts all the ladies in town......

"that reminds me, Brianna was almost bedridden after she visited you at your office". Leonard joked.

"That girl......? That screams at any little hardness? Duh! I hate types like her" he said pouring himself a drink which was snatched by Leonard and gulped down in a flash. "I know you're a glutton" he said in disgust as Leonard belched loudly.

Meanwhile, Ryan's grand mom came visiting the company but she was stopped by the assistant manager of the logistics department. She looked at her in disgust as she was about to enter the elevator and blocked her path.

"Who let this beggar in?" She asked eyeing her. Grandma was taken aback, what insolence! Don't they know who she is? She became furious!

 "I am here to see my grandson.......she said but Maya (the assistant manager) cut her off. "Your grandson isn't here please leave before i call the security" she said curtly.

 "My grandson is your boss Ryan and i am here to see him" she insisted. Maya hissed and began to push her out "an old cargo like you cant be Boss Ryan grand mom" she said.

Kaina who is the receptionist and has been watching this but was afraid to speak up for fear of being sacked by Maya couldn't take it any longer. 

She stepped forward and she was just in time to steady grandma who was losing her balance "stop that Maya! We are suppose to be kind to everyone that comes in here young or old and she claimed she's boss grandma how did you know if this is not true?" Kaina challenged her. 

Maya raised her shoulders haughtily and walked around Kaina,who followed her around with her eyes. "Look who is judging who is being fair here, a common receptionist who is tired of working here" Maya sneered and Kaina felt her heart leaped.

"Who knows if she isn't your mom, because you both are dressed in same style of clothing, fake brands! She mocked and everyone laughed.

 At the mention of her mom, Kaina couldn't take it anymore she shoved Maya aside and led Ryan grandma towards the elevator.

 But what Maya said next made her froze on her tracks "Griffin prepare a sack letter for Miss Kaina" she instructed the secretary in charge of logistics. In her moment of anger Kaina forgot that in the company any department head or assistant has the right to sack any junior staff.

 She turned back and walked to Maya "why will you sack me because i told you to stop being rude to an elder?" She asked with her large eyes wide with anger.

"Didn't the old thing claim she's boss grandma? Let her get you a new job but you aren't working here again" Maya replied with an air of authority. 

"How do you want me to survive without a job?" Kaina said looking defeated. Maya shrugged "go ask your dead mom" she said and the next moment a resounding crispy slap echoed. 

Kaina slapped her! As she was about to lung at Kaina, the elevator door pinged and the door opened. Ryan who was escorting Leonard stepped out Maya quickly ran up to him and grasped his right hand.

She was one of the people he has slept with and she was still trying to win his heart "Boss an old lady came here and due to security reasons, i didn't let her in but Kaina attacked me and slapped me" she lied showing him the palm print on her face. 

But as Ryan looked up, he almost fainted "grandmom! Why didn't you tell me you were coming?" He shouted leaving everyone stunned. "She's his grandmom?"

The other staffs began to rejoice quietly that they didn't offend her while Maya fidgeted. Ryan's face darkened as he heard what happened "take care of her" he instructed his secretary as he led her towards the elevator ignoring Leonard.

"Miss Maya you have to leave and never step your foot into this office again" Ryan secretary stated coldly. 'Are you sacking me because of this peasant?' Maya shouted like a crazy person as she was led out by the security.

 Kaina sighed in relief her worst nemesis was gone. As she settled down to work, she remembered maya words about her mother she began to sob quietly. She miss her parents so much she's a poor lonely orphan.

   In the office..........

Ryan was still fuming as he helped his grandma into his office 'grandma why didnt u tell me you were coming? I would have come taken you in myself' he softly said to her.

"Ryan......i decided to surprise you! And I've found a wife for you." She said leaving Ryan astonished. 'A wife?' He asked puzzled. 'Yes in your company, should i send for her?' She asked grinning but before Ryan could reply, she rang the company secretary instructing him to send for the receptionist. 

As kaina came in Ryan was almost amused, she is somehow petite in statue. But her face is beautifully v curved shaped and she has beautiful legs too. Ryan swallowed hard, is this the wife his grandma found for him?

Is she mocking him? "Is she the wife" he asked "yes she's a very cool headed person" she replied. "Wait! What? What wife?" Kaina asked quickly in confusion.

"Please my daughter, please help me watch over my son when am gone" Ma katrina begged ernestly. As she said those words kaina felt a tightness in her chest. 

"Grandma what are you saying? You aren't going to die! Kaina said still not able to process the reality that she's getting married to her boss. "yes grandma see! Am not the only one saying you're not going to die" Ryan chipped in. 

"You punks........how can you gang up against me? You are getting married and that is final! We are getting the certificates tomorrow" she addressed kaina.

"You're serious ma?" Kaina big eyes widened in pure shock "get married to Ryan? The multi billionaire? The most famous model in the country? The greatest playboy of the century?

A man that has slept with almost all the female employees in the company? Kaina asked herself and staggered backwards a bit in shock.

 Then ma katrina's voice brought her back to reality "from today, you will be his personal secretary" she concluded her plans. Ryan's face darkened as he listened to his grandma "my personal secretary is Gideon mom! I cant change him" he grumbled.

"Don't forget am the chairwoman of this company.......i can remove you anytime" she mused with a wicked grimace at him. As Ryan heard this, his face softened.

 He remembered all she has gone through for him and it is because of her he is at the top today. But getting married to a nerdy girl that the sight of her irritated him and irked him so much! What will the public say?

How did she manage to bewitch his grandma that she made her his secretary? He sighed. "Okay mama you win! She will be my secretary and i will get married to her" he said feeling a headache coming on. 

"Good! I will go put things in place, the marriage will hold my next week" ma katrina said grinning from ear to ear as she began to head out of the office. Kaina wanted to follow suit but Ryan swiftly grasped her wrist

 "look here........i don't know you neither do i have any feelings for you so don't get too excited and spill this out. Our marriage will remain hidden till i am ready to say if out and we must keep our distance okay?" He warned sternly making kaina stiffen in fear and she nodded repeatedly in quick secessions.

"Good! As in secretary, start with this!" He said stoning her with a stack of files 

"i will have someone move your things to the office behind me. Good day! He said waving her dismissively and returning to his seat. 

Kaina bowed a little and hurried out of the office, when she got to the door she stopped and cleaned her eyes. "Am i in a dream?" She said pinching herself but it hurt! "Am not! Am not! Kaina is getting married!" She shouted excitedly in her heart.

 At 25, kaina has never been taken seriously by any man because of her little statue and almost non existing curves. She looks so plain! Now, she just want to get married to anyone with or without love as far as she doesn't suffer again and she is benefitting she will be okay. But her god of fortune decided to give her Ryan!

 Her almost immortal boss! She knew all the rigorous tests and interviews she passed through before she got this job and now is was automatically promoted to a secretary without lifting a finger!

A position she never dreamt she could have attained because of her low education qualification. After her parents passed on, she had to drop out of school to cater for herself. A tear dropped from her cheek, she quickly wiped it with her hands and headed to her new office as Ryan's secretary.

The next day, kaina was submitting her daily reports to Ryan when his phone rang. She watched in horror as his face darkened gradually.

Suddenly, he bolted from his seat "come with me right now!" He commanded making kaina jerk in fright but she hurried obeyed.

Ryan stormed out of his office with Kaina following closely behind. They entered the elevator in silence, the tension between them palpable.

As the doors closed, Kaina mustered up the courage to break the silence. "Is everything alright, Mr. Thompson?" she asked hesitantly. But his cold gaze made her mute immediately.
