Chapter 3

As they hurried out of the company after stepping out of an elevator, kaina's former co workers began to whisper amongst themselves.

"What is her relationship with president Ryan? A girl with heavy makeup and ample boobs no doubt one of the people Ryan has slept with asked. 

"I don't know, ever since after that woman episode, she stopped working downstairs and always heads upstairs and she refuses to tell anyone about it" another replied fluttering her long fake lashes. 

The first girl hissed "What good did president Ryan see in that good for nothing know it all" she said jealousy evident in her voice and the other girls shrugged their shoulders in wonder.

Meanwhile, Ryan drove speedily and recklessly through the express way

making kaina hold her heart in her hands. She wanted to ask where they were going but seeing the deadly look on his face, she shut up and swallowed hard instead. 

Soon, they stopped in front of the biggest hospital in the city. Ryan hurriedly strode in with long steps that kaina had to run to keep up with him. 

They got to a room in the private ward then he stopped, took a deep breath and walked in. Dreadfully she walked in too this man is just too scary!

When she got in, ma katrina was lying on the bed looking a ghost of her former self and Ryan kneeling by her bedside sobbing! 

Looking at her on the bed, it reminded kaina of her mom lying down and passing away gradually too.

 A wail rose in her throat, she gripped her chest and slumped on the floor. She felt as if her chest was on fire. Tears gradually cascaded down her eyes, she began to have flashbacks of when her mom was dying too.

She screamed with all her might scattering her hair and flailing her legs.

 Ryan looked at her coldly with his deep blue eyes that were now bloodshot from crying. 

That stare alone was enough to silence her, she quickly regained her composure and crawled to the bedside while Ryan looked at her in disgust. Where did his mom pick this girl from?

"Ryan......you are here...... Ma katrina said and croaked and tried to sit up. "Let me help you ma" kaina said quickly stood up. "Leave her!" Ryan snapped scaring her he is just too scary.

 He helped her up himself "Grandma what happened? I was so scared i literally ran down here" Ryan said concern etched in his voice.

"Don't be my dear grandson, my time has come, promise me two things before i go" ma katrina smiled weakly. "You will get married to kaina two days from now, everything has been put in place.

Kaina you will go see your wedding dress now am sure you are going to love it. She said and a beautiful American girl came in and led the confused kaina away.

 "And my dear baby, please be strong and hold the company with both hands. If i go now all those greedy fellas will try take it away from you but don't give in and don't entertain any of them and don't take anything from them please. My dear son, i love you so much" she said in a low voice and recline back on the bed and closed her eyes. 

Ryan hugged her "I love you too" he said kissed her forehead and pulled her wedding ring from her finger.

 Then he went to call the doctors to take the body away. He went to the back of the hospital where there was a garden and sat there alone sobbing looking so vulnerable. 

Kaina came back to the ward but ma katrina was no longer there "excuse me, where is the elderly woman here?" She asked a nurse. "Oh the patient is dead and has been taken to the mortuary" the nurse replied and hurried away.

Kaina felt the earth spinning, and quickly held the wall for support. Her wedding isn't far again why didn't she wait to see it happen? Why is life so unfair taking away everything she loves? She tried to cry but tears refused to fall, her tears glands were already empty.

She and Ryan both went home separately because she felt sleepy and weak and he wasn't ready to leave yet. The next day, she stayed at home not going anywhere till the day of her wedding.

As a little girl she has always dreamt of getting married to a handsome rich man that loves her. But fate granted only two of her wishes giving her a handsome rich man but he doesn't love her and a big playboy.

 Throughout the wedding, kaina was in deep thoughts while Ryan kept a straight face not even glancing at her. The wedding itself was a hidden one with only about ten guest.

No media, no congregation. Kaina knew if not for ma katrina's wish, he wouldn't even glance her way talk less of getting married to her. 

But even though she was happy because she knew she will never be short of money again and will never to go bed hungry again. She nearly cried as she thought about all she has been through. But she couldn't ruin her wedding day! 

A girl only has only one in her lifetime. When they got to his villa, she gasped in shock! It was bigger than she expected. She grew awkward thinking he will ask her to perform any wifely duties because she is a virgin. 

But to her surprise and dismay he didn't and ignored her throughout after instructing the servants to move her things to a room.

When kaina entered the room she gasped in amazement! It was very big and has all the things a girl would love. But she began to cry, she wished her parents were still alive the man she would have married will be much better than Ryan. 

The next day, when kaina got to the office she was stopped in front of the elevator by her former co workers. "Kaina what is the matter? Why are you no longer working downstairs? What is your relationship with president Ryan?" They fired.

Kaina was stunned are they police officers? "Please milla and ella i am late for work please if you may excuse me" she said pushed passed them and entered the elevator.

 They hissed "she's mad because she was given a little promotion she thinks she is now the boss" ella the girl with ample boobs sneered. 

But when kaina got into Ryan's office to submit the morning report, she wished she never came in. He was having sex with a girl right on his table! Kaina almost vomited. "Get out!" He thundered at her and she ran out quickly like a panicked rabbit.

 She ran into her office and collapsed into her chair. The scene kept replying in her head "stop it kaina! You must be mad!" She scolded herself hitting her head with her knuckles. She soon buried herself in work and forgot about it.

By the time she was done, it was noon and she hasn't submitted the morning report! She quickly hurried to his office and to prevent a repetition of the morning incident, she knocked.

 "Coming in" a playful and humorous voice which can't be Ryan's replied. She cautiously walked in and from the corner of her eyes, she saw a guy with yellow hair and deep green eyes with braces on his teeth sitting on the sofa.

"Drop them here and get out" he snapped at her not looking up from what he was doing. She quickly obeyed and hurried out of the oppressive office.

 "Got a new secretary? She's so petite! But impressively beautiful too" Leonard said and Ryan just grunted leaving Leonard baffled.

 Wasn't this the same Ryan laughing moments ago? Why did this guy change like the weather? "Hey bro! Where are we going to booze tonight?" He said quickly changing the topic.

 In the evening when kaina got home, she decided to familiarize herself with the servants so she helped them with the chores and offered to help cooking the meal. The servants were pleased and fell for her instantly.

"She's so nice and kind and got a nice compliment for everybody" one of them said to another who nodded in agreement "and she isn't rude too like those others that master use to bring that like ordering us about" the other added. She went into Ryan's room to go take his laundry.

 When she entered, she was dumbfounded! His room is decorated in a kingly style from the bed to the floor! His pictures adored the walls and he has a standing mirror with various array of makeup and perfumes adoring it.

"no wonder he looks like a woman" she mused to herself. It also had a drawer in the underneath. Curious, she opened in. There was a box inside, she opened it and inside there was a simple pendant necklace. It was just little blue pyramid shaped pendant lined with a black rope. 

"What will president Ryan be doing with such a cheap piece of jewelry? And why does it look so familiar?" She asked herself in wonder. As she was still examining it, Ryan walked in! Startled the pendant fell from her hand.

When Ryan looked down at what fell from her, his face darkened. Kaina backed away in fright. He bent and slowly picked it up examining it as if it was a baby.

 "Why are you rummaging through my belongings?" He growled in a low voice. Kaina swallowed in fright she tried to reply but her words chocked her and she to cough instead. Ryan's eyes reddened, he grappled her neck. 

"How dare you touch this necklace? How dare you fall it to the ground? What if it got destroyed? Are you insane? He fired at her and with every word his grip tightened around her neck.

 He pinned her to the wall and slapped her hard on her face with his second hand. She began to gasp for air because she was chocking but this only fueled his anger as he began to rain blows on her.

Kaina couldn't fight back because he was far more stronger. By the time his anger subsided, kaina was battered and bruised on her face and body.

 But he just looked at her and flounced out of the bedroom, minutes later he drove out of the compound taking the pendant with him. 

Tears rained down her face as she dragged herself into her room she regretted marrying this beast because of his filthy money! She cursed the day she agreed to marry him because of ma katrina.

Her whole body ached and pained but there was no one to run to, the kind servants helped her clean and massaged her wounds to make her feel a little better and she was very greatful. 

Sleep eluded her completely and tears soaked her bed. She fell into a fitful sleep in the early hours of the morning but still had to wake up early to go to work. When she looked at her face in the mirror, she gasped in pure shock!

Her face was covered in bruises and cuts, her eyes swollen and bloodshot. She couldn't believe what she saw - a reflection of the pain she had endured at the hands of her husband.

With each passing day, Ryan's true nature revealed itself more and more, leaving Kaina feeling trapped in a nightmare she couldn't wake up from.
