Redundant

Redundant: not or no longer needed or useful; superfluous.

Henry’s POV

“Good morning Mr Salvatore” I raised my head to see my personal assistant walk into my office with a huge smile on her face and an elegant look. She’s dressed in a plain skirt and a top that matched the color of her skin.

After dropping her off at her apartment during the weekend, she had promised to be of good behavior henceforth and never to mention anything about claiming me or something similar to that. She tried inviting me in but I refused.

But after the event that took place yesterday afternoon, I doubt if she’ll stay true to her words.

“Good morning Miss Amara. You look radiant today” I complimented

“Thank you sir” she said blushing.

“I came to give you the report of today’s executive meeting and also to inform you of your official visit to Lucas Anderson an hour from now” She submitted the report on my table.

“Any other thing you have to report” I asked

“None of much importance sir”

“Are you sure because there’s supposed to be an important meeting I should be having with a particular lady later tonight?”

“About that…. I totally forgot. I’ll check the time and venue and also ensure to send it to your email before the day runs out”I huffed

“Why don’t you wait till the day runs out before sending it? What is exactly wrong with you,  Amara? You’re trying to sabotage a great business deal with that lady by trying not to inform me of the meeting” I chastised her.

“I’m really sorry about that sir, I promise it won’t happen ever again”

“What happened yesterday afternoon after I left work?” I asked, completely ignoring her apology.

“A lady came here to look for you sir and I told her you travelled because I thought you were not comfortable with her being here”

“My God! What sort of mistake did I make by employing this girl? Why would you do that Amara”

“You told me not to tell anyone about your location unless I confirmed with you first and I did as I was told”

“That was my younger sister Lyla. Okay? And I never told you to also walk her out of my office after she insisted on staying till I got back. You embarrassed her for Christ’s sake, Amara”

“I’m sorry, sir”

“I’m sick and tired of your constant mistakes Amara. You better buckle up and fix things. Here’s a memo” I lifted up a paper to show her. “It’s an invitation to the public to apply for your position. One more mistake Amara, I swear to God that I’ll walk you out myself. Leave my office” I instructed. I looked up to see her stagnant at the same position, her eyes were filled with tears and her demeanor had changed.

“Amara, please leave my office and don’t make me repeat myself”  She started walking out “Also get a dress ready for the weekend, you’ll be accompanying me to a ball party”

She didn’t say anything after what I said and left my office.

I turned over the paper I had shown her and I smirked because it wasn’t a memo for a job vacancy; rather , it was a letter being sent to South Africa to inform them of our possible visit soon.

After leaving work and attending to necessary personal jobs, I did my possible best to reach out to Lucas but it was all useless. It didn’t work out and I didn’t get to see a lost but found friend.

Amara’s POV

Miykal had helped me to pick out the best dress for the ball party and we had managed to select the most beautiful, seductive yet less revealing.

It was one gorgeous maxi sheer blue dress with an empire waist, spaghetti straps, open back with plunging v-neckline. I call the dress a pure perfection. It was perfect for the event as well as perfect for getting Henry’s attention.

Henry later called me around seven to come out of my apartment building. He was already waiting in his car and I needed to get out of the house to join him so we could leave for the party.

On sighting  the sleek black car, I realized he wasn’t driving like always, he had finally made use of his driver tonight.

As I was about to open the back door to where he was sitting, he put down the window and instructed me to sit at the front without even looking at me. I was angry and frustrated, I had put so much effort in putting up all these and yet! He didn’t even peek a glance at me.

Angrily, I got into the car and sat on the front seat behind the driver. I turned to look at him at intervals but still, our eyes didn’t meet. I wish to be the document in his hand right now, at least I’ll get his full attention.

I was almost dozing off when the car suddenly stopped in front of a huge mansion.

“It’s time” He replied silently. I opened the door and stood behind it, waiting for him to join.

“You should have allowed me to open the door for you” He said when he joined me, looking at his watch.

“That isn’t really necessary sir” I replied angrily through gritted teeth.

“That's not how a gentleman should……” He suddenly looked up and our eyes met. His mouth was open slightly as he looked down my body, his eyes lingering on my cleavage and the gown slit for a second before he got himself back.

“What are you wearing, Amara?” He suddenly asked

“A dress sir” I replied

“This is too revealing. If possible, I’ll drive you back home right now” I unlinked my hand from his and walked angrily into the party’s reception without him.

I stood in a corner and watched every one of his movements. He later joined some of his friends after hugging Lyla, the girl I had disrespected the other day. He was standing at another side of the room, looking at me once in a while.

Whenever our eyes meet, I’ll quickly turn to the other side.

I’m so tired of his attitude tonight. Maybe I should just give up on this game of mine. But I can’t! Not yet!

“Hi, I’m really sorry about the other day, I didn’t know you were his sister” I apologized immediately I moved closer to Lyla.

“It’s totally fine. I understand that you’re doing your job. I’m just curious about which job you’re diligently performing” She said smiling brightly.

“What do you mean by that?” I asked.

She took a sip from the cup of glass with her.

“Your job as his personal assistant or your job of laying claim on my brother, which one?”

“He told you, right?”

“He tells me everything,” she replied happily.

“I’m so embarrassed right now”

She was about saying something when we heard a loud ruckus coming from where Henry and his friends had been standing. It appeared one of them had punched the other person repeatedly. After the fight, one by one, the two separated guys left the part leaving Henry with their other friend.

“Let’s go,” Henry demanded and started walking away, not giving me the chance to protest. He collected the key from the driver and instead drove me back home.

“Are you okay, Sir?” I asked once I noticed her was frowning at the road.

“I’m good. Things just didn’t turn out as I expected”

After that I didn’t say anything further and neither did he. We both stayed silent till we got to my apartment.

“Do you want to come in?” I asked inviting him into my house.

“No”

“Are you sure you’ll be fine?”

“Don’t bother yourself” He replied impatiently.

“I can help fix this your mood, though”

“What? How?” He asked, turning to face me.

Deciding that my survival in that office depended on my next action, I still went on to throw my hands around his neck and captured his lips with mine. At first he wasn’t kissing me back, probably shocked at my action but as I almost gave up, he pulled me tighter, deepening the kiss, making me lose my senses. He tasted like vodka and I loved the chocolate flavor. I could melt like a candy right now in his arms.

I moaned out at the sweet sensation vibrating through my body. Almost immediately, Henry pulled back.

After a few seconds of regaining his senses. He said “You’re fired, Amara, don’t you dare to resume on Monday. Get out of my car”
