Sebastian POV

“Isn’t it Sebastian Hale… the great Sebastian Hale… more like the cheat Sebastian Hale.”

I turned in the hallway and saw a group of familiar faces walking toward me. My stomach dropped. I had prepared myself for this moment, but seeing my old teammates still made me uncomfortable.

“Alfred, bro—”

“Don’t you dare call me bro. You forgot you were our brother, that we were family, the second you joined our biggest rival.”

I let out a slow breath. “You’re still hung up on that? I

**Shirley POV**“Thank you,” I told the Uber driver as I stepped out of the car. I stood on the sidewalk for a second, staring at the stadium in front of me. Will this place even be open? I muttered under my breath.. There was a guard with long hair, whistling quietly while scrolling through his phone with one earbud in. I walked closer.“Hello? Hello?”He didn’t hear me the first time. I had to call a second time before he finally pulled the earbud out and looked up, raising an eyebrow.“How can I help you, miss?”“Actually, I’m looking for a guy about this height.” I raised my hand to show Sebastian’s height. “Dark hair, green eyes, kind of athletic build.”The guard scratched his chin. “Green eyes… green eyes… oh, you mean Hale?”“Yes, yes. Have you seen him? His location said this was the last place he was.”“Yeah, he’s inside the gym area. Came through a few minutes ago.”Gym area. I had no idea where that even was in a place this big, but I’d figure it out. “Thank you so much.”

  • The Captain that was never mine   I'm trying, I'm really trying..

**Sebastian POV**“What? No, Coach… you can’t suspend me. You know my future is on the line here. You can’t risk all of that just because someone framed me.”Coach didn’t even flinch. “It’s standard procedure. No hard feelings. I’ll push the investigation as fast as I can, and you need to cooperate fully until we clear your name. Until then you’re not playing on my team. If you’re innocent I’ll be happy to put you back—maybe even give you the captaincy.”Was that supposed to make me feel better? I clenched my fists at my sides and forced myself to stay quiet. He patted my shoulder once, “Go change.”Then he walked away and left me standing there alone. The hallway felt like it was spinning. This couldn’t be happening. This... this was impossible.A few minutes later I pushed back into the locker room. Every pair of eyes swung toward me. The glares said Coach had already told them about my “vacation.” The second I found out who set me up I was going to beat the living shit out of them

  • The Captain that was never mine   Tie

CHAPTER 138 Sebastian POV The referee’s whistle echoed and the puck hit the ice and I snatched it right away. I raced down the side boards, keeping it close on my stick. I faked once, then twice, the player bit on the second fake and stumbled. I had an open look, snapped it quick, and buried it in the back of the net. The Hawthorne side of the arena exploded. Teammates slammed into me, gloves thumping my back and shoulders. One goal down. One more to go. The next face-off went to Brad and thankfully, he had a clean opportunity to send a pass across to Jason exactly the way we had drawn it up in the locker room. For a second it looked perfect—Jason had the lane, the angle, everything. Then a Westfield stick darted in and knocked the puck. The Hawthorne crowd groaned in frustration. How the hell had Brad lost it so easily? Everyone knew he wasn’t a pushover, but was no time to think about it. One of our defensemen recovered the puck and fired it up ice. Ethan caught it in stride

  • The Captain that was never mine   Change of plans

Sebastian POV By the time the whistle blew for the second intermission we were already two goals behind Westfield. The locker room was dead quiet except for the sound of someone slamming a fist into a locker, the metallic echo ringing through the space. Every face around me looked dark and frustrated.“I understand your frustration, guys. I’m equally frustrated.” Coach rubbed his jaw as he spoke. “It’s almost like… like they knew every single move we were going to make. Countering every attack.” He narrowed his eyes, thinking out loud. “That’s right. We prepared specially for them. We should have at least scored by now, but every tactic we tried ended up failing and left us on the losing edge.”Now that he said it out loud, I realized he was right. The whole game had felt off. From the looks on everyone’s faces, the rest of the team was thinking the exact same thing. The only plausible explanation was that someone had leaked our strategies and sold us out to Westfield. One by one the

You forgot you were our brother, that we were family, the second you joined our biggest rival.” I let out a slow breath. “You’re still hung up on that? I told you the decision wasn’t in my hands. My family transferred me to Hawthorne. I couldn’t refuse.” “You think that’s believable? You had no real reason. As far as I’m concerned you didn’t relocate and you didn’t win the lottery and decide to go to the most expensive school in town. You must have been bribed by Hawthorne. You chose a little cash and game over your family.” His assumption caught me off guard, but I wasn’t about to tell him my mom had married Brad’s father or that I was now ti

  • The Captain that was never mine   Court me

Shirley POV“You’ll probably call this a mistake, or say we were both wasted and then dismiss the idea of ever getting back together. I already know how this ends, so I’d rather save myself another heartbreak.” He leaned back in the chair and rubbed his forehead.I bit my lip, uncomfortable, because he was right. That did sound exactly like something I would say.Maybe I had been too hard on him. If he really wanted Janine he could have taken her right there in that room, but he chose me instead. That should count for something… right?I stood there, still deciding what to do next. “About… about what you said…”He turned and raised an eyebrow. “What I said? I’ve said quite a few things today, Shirl. Can’t possibly remember all of them.”I let go of the door handle and walked back into the living room.“You said you love me. Were you lying or not?” I asked him straight. “And no more lying. Believe me when I say my parents can ruin your entire sports career and make sure you end up a pa
