Sage's POV

My mind was a whirlwind of questions, each one more pressing than the last. Why was Anastasia here in New York? And more importantly, who was the man she was with, the same man I’d seen her with before?

“Sage? Earth to Sage?” Michael’s voice, closer than I expected, pulled me sharply back to the present. He was holding out a ridiculously large soda, his brow furrowed in concern. “You okay? You’re looking a little green.”

I forced a shaky smile, my gaze still involuntarily darting back to Anastasia. She was laughing now, a bright, carefree sound that seemed utterly out of place given the turmoil churning within me. “Fine,” I mumbled, taking the soda from him. “Just… thought I saw someone I knew.”

Michael shrugged, oblivious to the earthquake rumbling beneath my calm facade. “Probably just a doppelganger. Come on, the movie’s about to start.”

He steered me towards the theater entrance, his hand a light, insistent pressure on my back. I took one last glance over my shoulder

  • The Coach's Forbidden Play   Chapter 73

Sage's PovI stared at my phone, the silence of the apartment amplifying the ringing in my ears. I felt a familiar pang of loneliness, a gnawing feeling of being overlooked, of being a pawn in some grander social scheme. It was always about appearances, about what was expected and never truly about how I felt or what I wanted.A deep sigh escaped me, heavy with resignation. I tossed my phone onto the couch cushion beside me and got up. The feeling of lightness from the spa had evaporated, replaced by a familiar weight in my chest. I trudged to my bedroom, the soft robe I was still wearing was a comforting embrace against my skin. The day, which had started with such a liberating triumph, was ending on a note of familiar disappointment.I crawled into bed, pulling the covers over me despite the early hour. Sleep felt like the only escape, a way to press pause on the relentless emotional demands of the world. I closed my eyes, wishing for unconsciousness, wishing for a respite from the

Sage's POV As I followed Marcus, the soft lighting and calming aroma of essential oils began to work their magic, slowly easing the last vestiges of adrenaline from my system. He led me to a private treatment room, a serene sanctuary with a plush massage bed, soft ambient music and a gentle waterfall feature that trickled melodically in the corner. It was exactly what I needed after the morning's drama."Make yourself comfortable, Miss Sage," Marcus said, his voice now entirely soothing. "I'll be back in a few minutes after I prepare everything."He left me to change into the soft robe provided. The fabric felt like a whisper against my skin, a stark contrast to the rough emotions that had just churned within me. I lay on the heated massage bed, closing my eyes and for the first time in what felt like forever, I allowed myself to simply be. The world outside with its arguments and anxieties, seemed to fade away, replaced by the gentle hum of the spa.Marcus returned shortly, his hand

  • The Coach's Forbidden Play   Chapter 71

Sage's POV My heart pounded in a frantic drum against my ribs but for the first time in what felt like forever, it wasn't from fear. It was from pure, unadulterated defiance. Caroline and her entourage seemed genuinely surprised by my outburst. Their smirks faltered, replaced by a flicker of disbelief. James looked as though he wanted to sink into the polished marble floor."You really don't know who you're talking to, do you?" Caroline scoffed, recovering quickly. She took a step closer, her voice dropping to a low, menacing whisper. "My family practically owns this entire chain of spas. We built this place. People like you wait. People like you don't argue with me.""And people like me don't tolerate arrogance and disrespect," I shot back, meeting her icy gaze head-on. My voice was steady, surprising even myself. "Your family may own this building but they don't own the common courtesy that dictates who gets seen first based on their appointment time. I made a reservation. I arrive

  • The Coach's Forbidden Play   Chapter 70

Sage's POV I chose it. My thumb moved, not to Andrew’s contact, but to the "end call" button. I couldn't do it... Not like this. Not with Michael standing there, a silent judge, watching my every move. The thought of explaining it all, of laying bare the messy truth, felt too exposing and too vulnerable. Andrew deserved better than a rushed defensive explanation. He deserved for me to be collected, to have my thoughts in order. And right now, my thoughts were a tangled mess of anger, frustration and a deeply unsettling sense of uncertainty."No," I said, my voice barely a whisper. "He needs space. I need space."Michael's expression remained impassive but I could feel his silent judgment, a heavy weight in the air. He didn't say anything, which for him was a rare and unsettling silence. It was worse than his usual provocative remarks, somehow. It felt like he was letting me stew in my own poor decision, letting me feel the full weight of my cowardice."Just… go," I finally managed, g

  • The Coach's Forbidden Play   Chapter 69

Sage's POVI stood there, seething with my hands clenched into fists at my sides. Michael, the infuriating catalyst of my current predicament, simply watched me with that infuriating smirk. He finally pulled his shirt on, seemingly unbothered by the chaos he’d unleashed. The fabric stretched taut across his chest as he buttoned it, a fresh wave of irritation washing over me. He looked entirely too put-together for someone who had just torpedoed my relationship with Andrew.“You think this is funny?” I spat, my voice low and dangerous. “You think it’s hilarious to mess with my life, to deliberately cause trouble?”He tilted his head, his eyes losing a hint of their amusement and becoming something unreadable. “Cause trouble, Sage? Or expose the truth?”“What truth?!” I shrieked, my control finally snapping. “The truth that you're arrogant, manipulative… Who enjoys making other people miserable?”He took a step closer, his expression suddenly serious. “The truth that you’re living a li
