The polished marble floors of the courtroom gleamed under the overhead lights as Serena Vale adjusted her suit and took a calming breath.
Her heels clicked with quiet resolve as she approached the plaintiff’s table, placing her briefcase beside her chair. Today was different. This case wasn’t just another lawsuit. It was personal—not to her, but to the man seated at the defense table: Dominic Reign
Dominic looked unbothered as always. Dressed in a tailored navy suit, he sat like a king holding court. His hands were clasped loosely in front of him, his jawline tense, eyes unreadable. There was something deeply unsettling about how calm he was, as if he knew the outcome.
Serena couldn’t afford to be fazed. She had a duty to her client, Isaac, whose younger brother, Kay, had gone missing three months ago after accepting a lucrative job offer from Reign Pharmaceuticals. No trace. No resignation letter. No final paycheck. Nothing.
The Judge entered, and the court came to order. Opening statements followed swiftly, and Serena laid out the case with precision.
“My client seeks justice for his missing brother,” Serena said, her voice steady. “After joining Reign Pharmaceuticals, Kay vanished without a trace. The company has refused to cooperate with authorities. My client believes Dominic Reign used his brother for illegal experimentation or worse.”
Whispers stirred across the courtroom.
Dominic's lawyer stood slowly. “Your Honor, the plaintiff’s claims are speculative and unsupported. Reign Pharmaceuticals is one of the most regulated biomedical institutions in the world. The young man was offered a fellowship, not indentured servitude.”
Serena watched him, noting the effortless authority in his tone. It wasn’t just money. He radiated power. Something more... primal.
After court adjourned for the day, Serena exited into the humid afternoon. She was halfway down the courthouse steps when she felt him behind her.
“Attorney, Can you stop pushing it?” Dominic said, his voice low .
She turned slowly. “I have a duty to my client. His brother is missing. No one just disappears like that.”
Dominic smiled faintly. “Perhaps he didn’t disappear. Perhaps he found something he couldn’t walk away from.”
Her brows furrowed. “What’s that supposed to mean?”
But Dominic didn’t answer. Instead, he slipped into the back seat of a sleek black Bentley and was gone.
That night, Serena couldn’t sleep. The more she read about Reign Pharmaceuticals, the more contradictions she found. State-of-the-art labs, but hardly any employee testimonials. Groundbreaking medicines, yet minimal public trials.
Determined, Serena visited the last known address Kay lived at—a shared apartment in the industrial district. His roommate, a scruffy, half-awake mechanic named Tyler, answered the door.
“Kay?” he said. “Yeah, he was excited as hell about that job. Said they were paying him double what he expected. But...”
Serena leaned in. “But what?”
Tyler scratched his jaw. “He changed the night before. Real jittery. Said he had to sign an NDA and give a blood sample. Weird stuff. He packed in the middle of the night and never came back. I thought maybe he hit it big and ghosted us.”
Serena frowned. Blood sample?
“Can you repeat what you just said in court?” .
“Yes,” Kay’s friend replied.
She left the apartment more suspicious than ever. If Reign Pharmaceuticals required something so invasive before hiring, what were they hiding?
Three days later, Serena visited the Reign Pharmaceuticals campus in person. The building loomed like a silver monolith against the skyline—all glass and steel, surrounded by lush forests. She had called ahead, requesting access to Kay’s personnel records under court approval.
To her surprise, the receptionist greeted her with a smile. “Mr. Reign said you might stop by. He’s waiting for you.”
Serena’s stomach tightened. Why would he be waiting for her?
She was led through a series of sterile corridors until she was inside his private office—a sleek, minimalist space with floor-to-ceiling windows and a faint scent of sandalwood and something else... muskier.
Dominic stood by the window, hands in his pockets. “Ms. Vale. Curiosity is a dangerous trait.”
“Not as dangerous as whatever you’re hiding,” she said boldly.
He chuckled, eyes gleaming. “You want Kay’s file. It’s been declassified.” He handed her a slim folder.
Serena opened it slowly. The file contained the basics: education, interview notes. There was nothing more. Nothing Special.
“I'll take this and I'll see you in court.” Serena said as she took the files to leave.
“And what if I'm proven innocent?”
“Then I hope we get to work together in the future.” Serena replied.
“Looking forward to it.”
The next hearing was set.
“I'd like to bring in another witness to the case, your honor.” Serena said.
Tyler walked in. She questioned him a little and it was time for her big question.
“You told me something about an NDA and stuff. And how he could have agreed to an experiment. Can you tell the court what you told me?”
“ No, I didn't say anything as such.”
“Are you afraid? Don't worry I'll protect you.” Serena told him as wrinkles were already gathering all over her face.
Dominic’s lawyer objected saying she was putting pressure on the witness and it was sustained.
Serena had witnessed this a few times, so she wasn't surprised. She just felt bad for her client.
And when the final ruling came, Dominic was found Innocent as there was no substantial evidence that could prove he was guilty.
“Mr Reign.” Serena yelled following Dominic outside court.
“How much did you give him?” Serena asked, letting out a slight smirk.
“I don't know what you're talking about. I'm very busy. Oh!” Dominic turned to her . “ I hope to walk with you in the future”.
Serena felt her stomach twist inside. These were the people she hated the most .
Her phone buzzed from inside her bag,
“Hello, Rosie wassup.”
“Mom, dad. Th— the Alpha and the Luna, blood, bodies…” Rose mumbled in a heavy voice as she cri
ed.
“ Calm down and talk to me.” Serena replied.
“Come home right now.” Rose replied and hung up.
Serena's POV “Serena… are you really sure about this?” Lynn asked nervously I met her gaze. “I have to be. You’re strong, smart, and loyal. The pack needs you, and Dominic and I… we can’t do this alone.”Her brow furrowed. “What if I fail? What if I make a mistake?”“You won’t,” I said firmly. “I trust you more than anyone to handle the pack. You won’t fail the pack, and you won’t fail us. I saw your silent movements to mold the pack.I never said it but i appreciate you so much. And I honestly hope you can do this. I ruled this pack for years since the tragedy and It wasn't easy but I had y'all. Now I'm trusting you and I believe you can do this for me too.”Dominic’s hand brushed over mine. “She’s right, Lynn. You’ve got the strength. And we’ll be there every step of the way, by the way you're just taking Serena’s part right?.”Lynn swallowed, glancing between us. “But the responsibility… it’s enormous. Alpha is everything.”“And everything is too much for one person,” I said softl
Serena’s POV “Again!” Ashley’s voice cut through the air like fire.“Yes, Alpha!” the young wolves echoed, snapping into formation.I crossed my arms, watching. “Not bad,” Dominic said, sliding beside me.“Not good either,” I muttered. He smirked. “You sound exactly like Ashley.”“She’s loud. I’m just… honest.” I gestured toward a wolf tripping over his own paws. “See? Reality check.”Ashley barked again. “Form! Form!”I rolled my eyes. “Fine. Maybe I am like her.”Dominic chuckled low. “You’re admitting defeat already?”“Not defeat. Observation.”He pressed his hand to mine. “We’re alive, Serena. That’s more than enough.”I frowned. “And the syndicate? Are we really safe now?”He sighed. “Nothing is ever safe.”“Exactly,” I said. “Basty’s changes are good for the world, maybe…but the old guards won’t stand for it. Some of them are already plotting. Some are whispering rebellion.”Basty’s deep voice cut in from behind. “You’re right. They won’t.”We turned. His coat flapped in the w
Serena’s POVThe battlefield was chaos incarnate. Wolves and vampires clashed, supernatural energy crackling through the air like lightning striking water. Every strike, every roar, every flash of fangs and claws reverberated through my body, setting my senses alight. And yet, despite the storm, I felt a quiet, insistent presence near me Ada.She had been there in fragments, guiding, whispering, nudging me toward strength I didn’t yet know I possessed. But now, she stepped fully into the light, radiant, terrifying, and beautiful all at once. Her eyes, infinite pools of power, met mine, and I felt the weight of her expectation settle heavily on my shoulders.“Serena,” she said, her voice calm yet impossibly commanding, “you have the choice. You can unleash the full extent of your Alpha power, break the curse that binds you but there is a cost. Part of your humanity will be lost. The world will never know the same Serena it did before.”I shook my head, panic rising, my wolf growling be
Serena’s POV Aneres had grown stronger than I had anticipated. Peter had done more than mold her mind he had turned her into a vampire, giving her abilities that rivaled even my own werewolf strength. And she knew how to wield them with precision, cruelty, and an uncanny strategic mind. Every strike she made against me felt like a dagger twisted with a memory I could not undo.I could not bring myself to fight her fully not in the way I knew I had to. She was my blood, my twin, the mirror of everything I was. Even when her fangs drew blood from my arm, I hesitated, letting my compassion slow me down. My wolf growled under my skin, frustrated, confused. It wanted to rip, to strike without mercy, but I could not let it.She smirked, sensing my hesitation, her eyes glowing red as her vampire aura flared. “You’re weak,” she hissed, circling me with the grace of a predator. “You can’t kill your own, Serena. You never could.”I swallowed hard, the sting of her words cutting deeper than her
Serena’s POVThe battle had left the air thick with silence, broken only by the distant crackle of dying fires and the labored breathing of the wounded. Peter lay still, finally gone. At least that's what I thought, and the satisfaction that my wolf had when it finally bit through that monster Cruz. I've been wanting to take him out all my life. I've wanted him death for as long as I could remember. This was the biggest my wolf appearance had ever done for me. Dominic had lunged at the precise moment, striking with lethal precision. I felt a shiver pass through me not entirely from relief. My wolf, once roaring with the chaos of combat, now slumbered, spent by the intensity of the fight. My body ached, but my mind was alert, scanning, calculating.I looked around at the devastation. The ground was scorched, buildings reduced to rubble, and the faint scent of iron and ash clung to everything. And then I felt it a pulse of energy, sharp, wild, and unmistakable. Aneres. My blood ran cold
Serena’s POVThe summit was supposed to be a step toward peace. A gathering of supernatural leaders meant to unite the werewolf packs and ensure no faction could be manipulated into war. Yet, even as I stood at the edge of the hall, my senses alert, I felt a pulse of unease. My rare werewolf instincts screamed that something was off, but I couldn’t pinpoint what. The elders were smiling, the diplomats nodding politely, and yet… I could feel the undercurrent of danger like a shadow curling around us all.It started with small things…messages that never arrived, instructions intercepted, subtle delays in communication that no one else seemed to notice. Every move we made, every negotiation, every protective measure I put in place, somehow became visible to Peter. How could he know? My blood boiled at the thought of his reach.I had trusted my team, my closest allies. Dominic, Ashley, Ada they were sharp, vigilant, and loyal. Yet every instinct of my wolf screamed betrayal was closer tha
