We flew to the castle. But the closer we got, the darker it was. Trees were quickly losing leaves but it was the wrong season for that. The air was cold.
“The keeper is drawing life out of everything within its reach. It has an unending hunger. The devastation will reach the next village by night fall if we don’t stop it now.” Saple rumbled.

A strange mewling noise caught her attention. She swallowed back her tears as she turned towards the noise. The dragon was lamenting the loss of Roger. A scurrying through the walls made Veronica jump. It was dark with just the single candle lighting the expansive halls in front of her. I have lived in the walls of this giant prison ever since I was able to escape the Ogre that used to beat me every day. I was with the Ogre since before I could remember. As I ran from him, I heard his monstrous threats but I was faster than him. I dared not return for he would hit me again. When I escaped, I found the openings in the walls.
