Chapter 5

Scarlett

I opened my eyes and the first thing I noticed was that I was not in my own bed. I got up with a jerk, looking around I saw that the room was much bigger and furnished than mine. I was wearing black shorts and a blacktop. Turning this information in my mind, all the incidents of the last night as well of the last week came back. Tears started flowing down my cheeks but I quickly wiped them. I had to be strong, my parents wouldn't want me to be this weak. My head was a little heavy but I felt much better than last night.

Till now I had acted irrationally and out of grief but now its time to act rationally. I need to get my emotions in control and work towards building my skills as well as honing my powers. Finding who killed my parents should be my aim.

I looked around once again. I am most probably in boarding school. I quickly got up from the bed removing the blankets over me. Somebody had put a blanket over me. The floor was wooden. The door was painted white. I hesitantly opened my door and went out. A long corridor extended in front of me. At the end of the corridor, there were fountains in which water came out of nowhere. I was amazed but not surprised because I knew very well that there are other people in this world who could manipulate water and have many other abilities like I have mine.

The corridor looked grand. There were doors all along the corridor. At one end there was a big wooded door. I went towards it in hoping to find someone around. I knocked on the door. A shrill voice came " Come in ". I recognised the voice, it was of the same women I had met yesterday. I quickly composed myself and put on the expressionless mask like I usually do in front of strangers.

The door opened with a creak. The same middle-aged woman was sitting on a chair. In front of her piles of papers were kept.

"Hello, Scarlett. Come and sit." She said with a calm and kind voice. She was not exactly beautiful but there was an odd kind of beauty to her that made her look younger. I wonder what ability does she has.

I hesitantly went and sat on the chair situated in front of her. I stared at her willing her to continue because I was confused as hell and had a lot many questions most importantly where should I go next and what am I really supposed to do in the academy?

"I am sorry Scarlett, you would be very confused and would have a lot of question. But first, you had a fever last night. So healers were sent to heal you. How are you mentally and physically?" she said apologizing.

I said, "I am fine." It was a silly question to ask though so you really expect me to be fine after seeing my parents die not even a day before. Anyway, so that's the reason I had a headache yesterday and I feel much better now.

"Scarlett I was acquainted with your parents. I am sorry for your parent's death," she said sadness engulfing her features. At least someone felt the loss of them as I did. I relaxed knowing that she was close with my parents and most probably a good person.

"As you already know I am Teresa. You are currently in Alium Academy, where we help those with abilities like yours to master them and use it for the betterment of the world."

Ok. That I know but I slept in the car, how did I come to my room...

"How did I get to the room?"

"You slept in the car and we didn't want to disturb you so, William carried you to the room."

What! he carried me. I tried not to blush.

"Oh, ok."

"You said my mother enrolled me in this school but I would like to know more about it."

"Ok. I know this is all new for you. Your mother had enrolled you in this academy and wanted to send you this academy when you turned 17 before she died. But due to these unfortunate circumstances, I would like you to start at this academy from now. I am not going to force you to join immediately. Scarlett, you don't worry, here you will find a place amongst your kind."

I thought for a while about it.

I looked at her and nodded.

"Now that this matter has settled, I would love to answer any of your questions, if you have any," she said looking at me.

"Umm..." I said contemplating if I should ask her, finally, I blurted out, "Do you have any idea who killed my parents? Did the detective tell you anything?". I knew that most probably she wouldn't know because she was only acquainted with my parents but I still had to ask. I looked at her desperate for her answer.

She shook her head sadly and said, " Sorry but I don't have any information. She didn't tell us anything. I will try to get more information and will tell you when we get to know more."

I looked down at my hands. Who could kill my parents? I didn't know now but I promise I will one day and they would suffer as my parents did.

"Anyways, know that you are like my family and I will always be there for you. You can come to me if you need anything" she said bringing me out of my nightmarish thoughts.

"Thank you, you are too kind," I said smiling at her.

"Now to the important matter. You can take your time to grieve and when you are ready, you can start your training to master your abilities here. You have the ability to knock someone unconscious with your touch, am I right?"

"Yes I do and I would like to start at the academy from today only." This was true. If I have too much time, I will think about my parents and I will fall into the rabbit hole from which I don't know if I would be able to come out. I had to keep myself busy. I also needed to find the person who murdered my parents and when the time came to face that person I had to be strong enough. That could only happen if I mastered my abilities.

"Ok, any more questions?"

"Yes actually, if you don't mind telling me, what ability do you have?" I said to her.

She chuckled but it felt as if she was hiding something deep in her laugh.

" I have the ability to heal"

"Like my father" I mumbled softly remembering.

She heard it. "Yes sort of like your father but his ability was much stronger than mine and that's why I would like to give you a chance to enhance your skills of healing as well."

I looked at her surprised. "I didn't get any of my father's ability," I told her.

"Yes you haven't got any yet, but as you may know abilities are sometimes developed at an older age," she said seriously.

"OK..." I trailed not wanting to disappoint her. She had been kind to me but I seriously have no ability to heal.

"I should leave you now, you need to get ready before your classes. My nephew William will be your guide for today," she said motioning at someone behind me.

I turned around to see the same boy from yesterday. I hadn't noticed him come in. Now that I saw him clearly without my world spinning and with my thought clearer, he was absolutely stunning. He had an athletic and tall body with beautiful blue eyes, high cheekbones and lush curly black hair which lay on his head. He was standing there leaning against the door frame with his hands folded on his chest.

When I realised I was staring, I quickly looked away and blushed. He chuckled in a way that said that he was used to these types of reactions from girls.

Helena cleared his throat to get attention.

"Like I said this is my nephew, William. He will show you around today. And William this she Scarlett you might remember her from the events of yesterday."

His expression turned serious. "How can I forget..." he trailed off and then continued " Come on Scarlett" he went out of the door motioning for me to come. I quickly got up.

"Thank you for your kindness, Mrs Teresa," I said and went out of the door following William.
