Keira POV
When I awoke in the morning and descended the stairs, I saw Louis enjoying breakfast in the dining room. Louis told me to merely clean the house because I nearly started an explosion in the kitchen when I first started cooking.
Louis was a fantastic cook, but as I sat in my chair, I really missed the BBQ gatherings we used to have. I also missed my mother's cooking and the cheese in Louis' grubby hands.
"You will soon turn 18. What are your plans?" Louis questioned me while gazing into his juice glass.
I quickly finished my sentence, "No."
"I hope you can shift, or I'll have to spend time taking care of you. Don't forget to put the plates in the dishwasher." Louis said once wiping his lips with a tissue, then he walked to his room.
I knew Louis was the Beta of our pack. He needed to prepare for Hunting & Dancing, that's what Lynede told me last night.
Our traditional event, Hunting& Dancing, is only held after Alpha's 20th birthday. It started as a mean to assist Alpha in finding his mate. The event is divided into two parts, as you might guess based on his name. The first part is hunt, where the males will hunt animals designated by the elders in the forest, these animals vary from year to year, sometimes deer, sometimes bears. And during this time, the females are free to relax, sip drinks, and even place bets on who will be the king of the hunt this year. After a grueling and intense hunt, it's finally time for the males to ask their companions to dance, which is especially meaningful for the Alpha. If he finds his mate, he could invite her to dance on the spot, and all of the pack would witness the moment as it could be regarded as an engagement.
You must agree that that sounds pretty intriguing. However, it would certainly be much better if women could participate in the hunting aspect. Whatever the case, Louis might find his soul match at this gathering, and I want to be his bridesmaid.
I pushed the door open and walked to my usual seat, but someone was already sitting there. He probably sensed my gaze, turned around, and asked me, "Am I in your usual seat?"
His voice was all too familiar to me, low and soft.
"Well ...... Yes." I looked into his hazel eyes and nodded, "But we can share a table."
"Thank you, Keira." He smiled like a little kid and stood up, gesturing me to sit by the window.
I froze for a moment as I was about to take the seat across from him, but he had already pulled out the chair next to his for me.
"Thank you, Dylan. What are you doing here? Oh, don't worry, the couch is big enough for both of us." I said to him as I sat down and saw him trying to make more room for me.
When I was a child, Dylan used to live next door and would frequently stop by to play with me, much to the annoyance of my brother. In the middle of the night, Dylan came to my house and told me his wolf was brown, just like his hair. This would have been causing for celebration, but for some reason, when he buried his head in my neck, he started crying. Later, after questioning him numerous times, the incident became an unsolved mystery to me.
"Yeah, last time you told me that PARK was worth a try, so here I am." Hearing what I said, he moved closer to me, and gave me the menu, "Do you have any recommendations?"
"Garlic-roasted bread, of course! And Golden latte and cranberry fruit drinks are their house specials. tasted like they just came fresh from the garden!"
"OK, I wanna try cranberry fruit drinks." He touched my head and nodded.
"Good afternoon. What would you like?"
"I'd like to have garlic-roasted bread and a large cranberry fruit drink, please."
"A strawberry-filled pie and a large cold brew. Thank you."
"Okay."
In no time, our order was served. Dylan sipped the drink and exclaimed, "You are right! It tastes like they just came fresh from the garden! I should come to this cafe with you every day."
"Then you will lose your proud abs!" I stretched out my hand and pointed at his abs.
"Come on. Keira!" He pinched my face softly. "Oh, would you like to hunt with me? I mean, I could take you into the forest, I know you've always wanted to."
"Really? I'd like to, Dylan!"
"OK, wait for me at the lake south of the forest. I bet you will like it!" He glanced at the cut pie on my plate, and quickly took a piece.
"Hey!" I tried to beat him, but his phone rang.
"Stephen, what's up? Okay, I'll be there soon." He hung up the phone, turned to me, and said in a depressed mood, "Sorry Keira, I have to go... Let's continue our date next time! I owe you."
Seeing him leave in a hurry, I sighed and shook my head.
Fine, enjoy my lonely afternoon tea then.
Jingle~
I subconsciously looked towards the door and saw a gloomy face walking towards me.
What, why is he here? The male I met in the Moonlight bar! What's he going to do?
His darkened face and angry gaze gave me got a bad feeling. He greeted the owner who was standing at the bar grinding coffee beans, then stood in front of me.
"Afternoon, puppy. Don't you forget what I told you in the bar?"
"What?" I had a blank face.
Staring at the stupid look on my face, he chuckled, "Silly puppy."
"So this is what you come for?" I frowned and looked him up and down. Had he come over here just to make fun of me?
He didn't answer, sitting next to me, "I saw it."
"Excuse me? What do you mean?" I assumed he's as hard to understand as calculus.
He grabbed my chin and forced me to look at him. I avoided his gaze, but his low, raspy voice followed, "I said I saw what you did with you and that bastard."
My eyes widened, "Watch your mouth, he is not a bastard, he is my friend!"
"Good..." He growled, "Look at me!"
At that very moment, I felt pulled into the starry sky as I looked into his blue eyes. My heart was racing, then I smelled rum, "Rum..."
He suddenly released his hold on me and said, "The owner is creating coffee liqueur," while his eyes narrowed.
He sat next to me and stretched out his hand, rubbing my cheek that Dylan had just pinched with his thumb.
"Wait, what are you doing? It hurts!" My skin was going to rub off.
He was silent for almost five seconds, just staring at me, his eyes as if he was looking at another criminal. Then he lowered his head, cupped my face in his hands, and his lips collided with mine in a toe-curling kiss. To my surprise, I couldn't resist his kiss. I didn't know what he was doing to me. When we were both out of breath, his lips left mine and his eyes stared at him unblinkingly.
"Looks like you need to learn how to breathe while kissing. I'll be your best teacher." He raised his eyebrows, a devious smile playing on his face.
I didn't say anything, just wiped my lips. But his eyes stayed on me, and he was furious at what I had done. "I warned you not to flirt with other males, or I would punish you. For this time it is a kiss; next time..." He paused and whispered in my ear, "I will fuck you."
He stood up and left after saying this.
Jesus, he is absolutely a psycho! Who he really is! I can't believe that there is such a dangerously arrogant guy in our pack. Somebody, please tell me who the hell he is! I should ask Lynede if she knows him! I can't wait until this person is identified.
Keira POV "Lynede, come to the PARK cafe, I treat you to afternoon tea." I called her. "Oh, you are sooo sweet! I will be there in one minute." Five minutes later, Lynede showed up in the cafe. "Hey, Keira!" She looked around and finally locked on me. "Tell me why you called me here, not for an afternoon tea, right?" "Before I tell you, let's order something to drink first." I gave her a menu. "A Lemon Tart and a Matcha latte. Thank you." Lynede said to the waiter and couldn't wait to ask me, "What happened?" I paused and then questioned her, "I accidentally met a male with black hair in the bar. I mean, do you know who in our pack has black hair?" "Black hair? As far as I'm aware, Kloss and our new Alpha both have black hair, and..." "Oh my goodness, look who I met! My dear classmates!" We were rudely interrupted by Rhoda. "Rhoda, shut up. No one wants to communicate with you." Lynede's eyes rolled back, and she had a repulsed expression. "I'm the niece of the Alpha of Jupi
Keira POV In the morning. It made me sluggish because of insomnia last night, so I got out of bed and patted my face. Louis stared at me as he sat in front of me, "There are a few things that need to be taken care of today, so I have to head to the Full Moon Room a little early. You'd better dress up before the ball starts." I didn't tell him I was going hunting because it was not allowed. I nodded and stuffed toast into my mouth. "Do you have a dress for the ball?" Louis enquired of me. He had this tie in his hand when he went out of his room following breakfast. I nodded while grinning badly. He appeared to be about to say anything else, but all he did was lightly sigh. He was already attired. He looked dapper in a navy blue suit with vertical stripes and an orange tie, and I knew he was going to make an impression. "Well, I'll see you in the Full Moon Hall." He said, placing his hand on the door handle. "Okay, bye." After he closed the door, I quickly cleaned up everything o
Keira POV I couldn't see the Alpha's face because of his deerstalker, but even so, I felt silly for overthinking it when I realized this puppy lover wasn't the Alpha. I relaxed and smiled. The puppy lover looked at me when he heard my chuckle, and then he continued to return his attention to the hunting scene. Based on the serious expression on his face, I guessed he was probably a skilled hunter as well. When he saw the man raise his rifle and aim it at the buck, he frowned, as if he already knew what was going to happen, inaccurate aiming or something. The buck was still staring down and smelling the dandelions in the grass, completely oblivious to what was awaiting him. When I unconsciously sneezed, the buck alertly perked up its ears, pulled its head up, elevated its front feet, and raced quickly. The breeze carried the dandelion seeds off. The buck didn't even hesitate for a second before vanishing into the forest, and the Alpha, enraged at witnessing his prey go, beat his fist
Keira POV Rhoda was wearing a dark green low-cut velvet evening gown that displayed her cleavage and her shoulders. She looked down at me with a disgusted expression, "Except for your diamond earrings, you have no taste in fashion, and I bet no one will ask you to dance tonight." "So what, I'd rather be outside in the fresh air on the terrace." "Somebody needs to sob on the terrace." Rhoda walked to me with a whiff of perfume and grinned haughtily, "Do you suppose that there would be a Romeo who would throw pebbles at the window and take you to leave to somewhere? You wish!" She ran her hand through her hair. How can someone misinterpret someone's words? "Well, I hope Alpha declines to dance with you." I took Lynede's hand and walked away, didn't wait for her reaction. Because I didn't want to argue with her in this situation anymore. She was still cursing. "Your earrings are really pretty! When did you buy them?" We stopped at a round table, Lynede asked me. "No, they were give
Keira POV The audience, which had been calm, suddenly became boisterous as soon as he finished speaking. "What are you saying?" My voice started to tremble. "As you see, I am your Alpha and your mate. My name is Augustine Lope, don't forget your mate's name, Keira." He lifted my hand and put it to his mouth and kissed it. What the hell! I can't believe it! He is my new Alpha, my mate! Is this the way that Moon Goddess punishes me? And why does he know my name? Augustine lowered his head to see the look on my face, and said in a firm tone, "I could know everything about you, as long as I want." Our eyes met and I took a step back when I noticed his possessive gaze which was breathtaking. There's no denying that he was irritated by my actions. I saw the fire of rage in his eyes as if something mad was happening. Augustine grabbed my arm in silence and pulled me back, "Never try to flee from me, I think you've heard of me and I don't want to show you my cruelty unless it's necessary
Keira POV He emphasized this to me once more. I figured he must find it amusing to watch me standing there with my mouth wide. I knew that practically all the girls wanted him to be their partner, but I never imagined that he would be my mate. "How could?" Rhoda muttered angrily, then she took a long breath and acting composed, "How is she your mate, Alpha? She... She can not even shift." "It is all designed by Moon Goddess, so it doesn't matter." "But what use is a Luna who cannot shift; you must now reject her." "I'll reiterate that she is already mine, so I won't reject her. You are not qualified to ask me to do this." In response to Augustine's remarks, her cheeks started to become crimson with embarrassment. She bowed her head and quickly left the hall. I felt Augustine firmly grasp my hand and added, in a forceful voice, "She is my mate, and we will wed the following month. But pardon me, we have to leave for a little while." I understood that he was trying to soothe me, b
Keira POV I tried to look up but was too dizzy and all I could see was darkness, eventually, I could make out my brother standing in front of me, frowning and staring at us. I motioned for Augustine to release his grip, but he ignored me and nodded to Louis, Louis reciprocated. "I was a little dizzy and Augustine gave me a hand." I explained to Louis and I swore that when I speak his name, Louis frowned for one second. "Keira, let's go. We're gonna see the elders." Augustine grabbed my hand, when we were about to pass by Louis, a hand stopped me. "Don't you know that she hasn't shifted, Alpha? You stubbornly bring her in front of people without considering what they might say about her behind her back. A useless Luna or a wolfless Luna?" Louis was holding back his anger, trying to speak in a calm tone. Augustine heard what he said, turn his head, and narrowed his eyes, "As Alpha, I won't allow anyone to slander my mate, and our pack needs a Luna." I have to say family is all we h
Keira POV Lynede next to me covered her mouth with her hands, and gave me an incredible gaze, I felt my face burning. "I'm looking forward to tonight." He whispered in my ear devilishly and his lips were pressed against my ear. "You wish, I won't sleep in your bedroom." I put down the glass and turn to Lynede, "I'm gonna go, bye." Lynede didn't speak but blew me a kiss. Augustine was gripping my waist with force, taking me to walk out. Contrasting sharply with the silent room, the hall is bustling with conversation and laughter. As I followed him, I noticed the elders exiting the conference room and casting a somber glance our way. It was obvious that they had not received the desired result from the negotiations. However, the others were enjoying their feast. When we finally reached what appeared to be a private house, I studied his place. The house itself was simple. It was a typical three-storey modern-style cabin with a terrace facing directly onto the pool. There was nothing
