Samantha's POV

Some women and I were signing as we watched the king's caravan leaving the royal castle. It was Maddox and his men heading off on that seven-pack trip he said he needed to make.

Tori hugged me from the side, giving me emotional support. "Don't worry so much, he'll be back. You probably won't even notice he's gone." She had noticed my distressed look.

"Thank you, darling, but there's no way I won't miss my mate," I gave a sheepish little laugh. Then she, the others, and I walked back to the castle.

"The important thing is that you love each other and you'll be able to continue your honeymoon as soon as he gets back," she teased, making a joke. She knew that the last few days between the king and me hadn't been monotonous at all.

"Promise me, promise me," I said, sitting down in front of the mirror, and she started brushing my hair. "But do you think he loves me...?" I asked, even though I wanted to avoid this conversation, but my unease was stronger. Was I imagining things, or were people having the same impressions as me...?

“Why do you doubt him, lady? Do you think he doesn’t love you?” Tori asked, I felt her hand tense slightly as she brushed my hair.

“Don’t get me wrong, Tori. It’s been incredible with him, that’s precisely why I’m afraid I’m moving too fast in this feelings thing.” It was difficult to find the right words.

“You’re not wrong to want to understand the things you’re getting yourself into,” she said affectionately. “King Maddox announced to everyone that he’s going to marry you, you’ll be Queen Luna of seven packs, not to mention you’re his soother and mate on top of that. It’s really a very fine line between convenience and love.”

“Even if he doesn’t love me now, I can respect that. I can give it time. But will he love me someday?” I was so insecure.

“That’s because you’re in love with him, isn’t it?” Tori was smiling at me in her reflection in the mirror.

I sighed deeply. “Like never before. Not even with my first partner, with whom I was for years, I did not love him the way I love Maddox.” I confessed, my heart aching. “That’s why I’m so anxious, you know.”

“Oh, ma’am. You just need to get to know him better. You can tell he doesn’t have much free time for you, the king of this whole place, but with time you’ll understand him better. And if you want my opinion, I do think he’s crazy about you, I can see it in the way he looks at you,” she smiled.

“You think so…?”

“Uh-huh? I think you two are perfect for each other, a couple planned by the moon goddess herself,” she smiled enthusiastically, and her enthusiasm was contagious.

I looked in the mirror now with positive thoughts. I had nothing to fear; I should stop worrying so much and live this wonderful experience I was having, and things would gradually resolve themselves, day by day. That's how the goddess wanted it.

It was then that Ysabella entered the room carrying a chessboard. “I thought our dear lady might be very sad about the king's trip, that's why I came to bring entertainment,” she smiled excitedly, pointing to the chessboard.

“Ugh, just because she's the best chess player in this whole Castle,” Tori explained, making me shake my head.

“That's true, but I'll let Lady Samantha win today,” Ysabella bragged.

“Uh, how complacent,” I joked, rolling my eyes, exchanging laughs with them.

So we sat down at the game table and played chess while Tori bothered us and distracted us with gossip and nonsense.

“Wow, but that dress Lady Laurel wore yesterday at the Gamma Kael mating ceremony was simply ridiculous,” Tori gossiped. “How could you dress like a lettuce on the most important day of your son’s friend’s life? You should have seen Emrich wanting to bury his head in the ground from sheer embarrassment.”

Ysabella laughed. “Poor Emrich. Come here, he could come cry his sorrows on my shoulder,” she gestured with a wide, air-hugging smile.

“Goddess, you’re hopeless,” Tori laughed at her.

“Oh, um…” I stammered, remembering the conversation I had with Maddox about his Beta.

“What’s wrong, Lady Samantha? Is it something you need?” Tori was worried.

“No, I’m okay. It’s just…” I looked at Ysabella with a sigh. “I think you should forget about Beta Emrich, Ysa.”

Disappointment flooded her face. “Forget about him?”

“It seems he already has someone,” I said.

“He has a mate? But I’ve been near him, there’s no other scent coming from him.”

“Ysa’s right, Lady Samantha. Emrich doesn’t have a mate,” Tori agreed.

I was a little lost at that moment. Why would Maddox have said Emrich was committed to me if he didn't have any mate? Then I remembered his words. “Anyone else among your girls who are desperate for my boys?”

Had he said that simply to sabotage me? I looked at Ysabella, her face bathed in sadness. “A mate doesn't always mean everything. So, before I get myself into trouble, you'd better stay away from him.” My voice came out a little harsh, though I didn't want to be mean.

Ysabella recoiled as if she'd been hit. She got up from the game table and left my room quickly, a sob stuck in her throat.

Tori looked at me but quickly lowered her head, clearly disagreeing. Well, neither did I.

Hecate POVThe great hall had been transformed into something out of a dream.Thousands of candles floated above the guests, their flames casting a warm golden glow over the scene below. Garlands of early spring flowers draped the walls, their petals pale pink and white, their fragrance mixing with the scent of perfume and wine. The long tables groaned under the weight of silver platters and crystal goblets, and the musicians in the corner played a melody that seemed to make the very stones hum.The Spring Festival had begun.I stood near the edge of the hall, a glass of wine in my hand, watching the crowd swirl before me. Nobles from all seven packs mingled and laughed, their voices rising and falling in a symphony of celebration. Fire dancers twirled near the far wall, their torches painting arcs of orange against the velvet darkness.I kept to the shadows, as I always did. An observer. A ghost. And then I saw him.Maddox stood near the center of the hall, surrounded by a cluster o

  • The Cursed Alpha’s Only Mate   Chapter 61: Fears

Hecate POVThe castle was transforming.Every corridor hummed with activity, servants rushing past with armloads of silk and garlands of early spring flowers. The great hall had been emptied of its usual furniture, replaced by long tables draped in white linen and laden with silver candelabras. Banners bearing the Emberclaw sigil hung from the rafters, their crimson fabric rippling in the breeze from the open windows. The Spring Festival was almost upon us.Nobles had begun arriving from every corner of the Seven Packs. Carriages lined the courtyard, their horses stamping impatiently in the cold. I had glimpsed unfamiliar faces in the corridors, lords and ladies dressed in their finest, their eyes bright with anticipation. The young ones spoke in excited whispers about the sacred night, the night when the Moon Goddess would descend and form new mate bonds, tying souls together for eternity.I kept my head down and my hood up, avoiding the crowds, avoiding the questions. I was the qu

Third POVThe doors to Luna Nyra's chambers slammed against the stone walls, the sound echoing through the suite like thunder. Elsie stood in the doorway, her chest heaving, her green eyes blazing with fury. Her red hair, usually so carefully arranged, had come loose from its braid, falling in wild waves around her pale face.Nyra did not flinch. She lay on the massage table in the center of the room, her robe draped over her thin shoulders, her eyes closed in languid relaxation. Two maids worked on her legs, kneading the muscles with practiced hands, their movements slow and rhythmic. The fire crackled in the hearth, and the scent of lavender oil hung heavy in the air."I thought I heard a storm approaching," Nyra said, her voice light, amused. "But it is only my daughter."Elsie stepped forward, her boots clicking on the polished floor. "Do not mock me, Mother. Not today."Nyra opened one eye, studying her daughter over the rim of her own shoulder. "Why so dramatic? Has someone died

  • The Cursed Alpha’s Only Mate   Chapter 59: Elsie

Elsie POVThe Midnight Pack's manor rose from the frozen earth like a wound in the landscape, all black stone and sharp angles, its towers clawing at the grey sky. Elsie had grown up within these walls, had learned to walk on these cold floors, had learned to read in the dim light that filtered through the narrow windows. She knew every shadow, every secret, every whispered conversation that echoed through the corridors at night. The manor was not a place of warmth. It was not a home, not in the way other packs understood the word. It was a fortress. A sanctuary. A prison, depending on who was asking.Tonight, it was all three.Elsie sat at the vanity in her chambers, a heavy leather bound book open before her, its pages filled with cramped handwriting and dark diagrams. The text was ancient, written in a language that had died out centuries before her grandmother was born. She could read it fluently. Her mother had made sure of that.Zuri stood behind her, the silver handled brush m

  • The Cursed Alpha’s Only Mate   Chapter 58: The Kind of Woman

Hecate POVThe morning light filtered through the curtains, pale and golden, painting the room in soft warmth. I woke slowly, my body still heavy with sleep, and felt the weight of Maddox's arm draped across my waist. His chest was pressed against my back, his breath warm on my neck, and his legs were tangled with mine beneath the sheets. He was already awake.I could tell by the way his fingers traced lazy patterns on my hip, by the way his nose nuzzled into my hair, by the soft contented sigh that escaped his lips when he realized I was stirring."Good morning," he murmured, his voice rough with sleep.I smiled, my eyes still closed. "Good morning, my king."He pulled me closer, wrapping both arms around me, holding me as if he was afraid I might disappear. His lips brushed against my shoulder, then my neck, then the curve of my jaw. Each touch was soft, unhurried, reverent."I do not want to let you go," he said."Then do not."He turned me gently in his arms so that I faced him.

  • The Cursed Alpha’s Only Mate   Chapter 57: Trough Love and Revenge

Hecate POVThe letters were hidden in the folds of my robe, pressed against my stomach, warm from my body heat. Three sheets of parchment, each one sealed with black wax and the imprint of a crescent moon. Luna Nyra's personal seal. The symbol of the Midnight Pack's true power.Finnick had not risked coming to Emberclaw just to see me. He had not braved the rogue forest and the border patrols and the ever present threat of discovery simply to hold me in a back room and remind me of summers long past. He had come because Nyra had sent him. Because Nyra had words for me. Because Nyra's plans were always moving, always shifting, always reaching toward a future that only she could see.I had not opened the letters yet. I was saving them for the privacy of my studio, for the quiet hours when the castle slept and no one watched. But I knew what they would say. Nyra was growing impatient. The game had been running for months, and she wanted results. She wanted Maddox weakened, his court fr
