3. Her Only.

WHEN YOU KNOW YOUR WORTH, NO ONE CAN PROVE YOU WORTHLESS.

EARLIER

Who the hell does he think of himself!? Does money give him the right to say anything he wants!? That cold bastard! I hope I never have to see him again! She kept saying in her head as she kneaded the dough for donuts, taking out her frustration.

Avery was visibly angry and no one wanted to be the way she vent out her anger so no one tried to disturb her. Time passed and she engrossed herself in work so much that she almost forgot why she was angry.

"Is Avery here?" Someone poked their head in the kitchen and a familiar voice hit Avery's ears and her head whipped her head around, exactly knowing who it belonged to.

"Oh Rina!" She left whatever she was doing and ran straight towards her best friend. Rina stood there giggling and opened her arms to wrap her soulmate in a bone crushing hug.

"I Missed you so much!!!" Rina chirped and the voice was the most pleasant to Avery.

"But not more than me Idiot! What took you so long!? It felt like an eternity since we last hugged at the airport." Avery said as a few tears slipped down her cheeks. She was more than overjoyed to have her friend back.

"Wait you're crying!? I was preparing myself the whole time just because I thought you'll scold me!!" She said separating away.

"Of course I'll scold you!" Avery nugged Rina in the rib playfully and Rina made the most hilarious sound trying to show she is hurt.

"Now let's go eat something!! I came straight here from the airport and I haven't had anything since morning!!" She started whining grebbing Avery's hand and dragging her out of the kitchen.

"You came straight from the airport!? You didn't visit your mom?" Avery asked, wishing she would deny the accusation.

"Nope. I came straight for you." She said. Great.

"Rina.. she must be waiting for you..."

"So what? I don't wanna see her right now. I wanted to come here." She said with a certain gleam in her eyes. Avery was glad her friend loves her place this much but the frown on her face didn't ease.

"You know she'll hate me for having you all to myself." She said not liking how it sounded.

"Really? How do you know?" Rina asked as she found a free table and they both took their seat.

"Last time she was very vocal about it. Look Rina I know your mom doesn't like me and you doing all these things will only encourage her to step on the line." Avery tried to make a point but even to her this sounds really ridiculous.

Why does her mother get a say in who befriends or not?... as long as it's someone wrong... But Avery was not the wrong person and she tried to show this to Mrs. Martin many times, but to her the fact that Avery is adopted seems to put everything else in the dark.

"You know fuck her. She has always controlled my life and my friends, even my friend's lifes!! And I am sick of all this now.. I'm already working under her as she wanted! What else does she want now!?" Rina said, visibly angry now. As much as Avery saw Rina's life has been not hers but her mother's. She used to do each and everything that her said, she never had an opinion of her own.

But after she met Avery she began to change. Avery has always been a free spirit, nothing and no one could ever tie her down. After meeting Avery Rina relised what she was missing and since that day in her mother's eyes she became rebellious. But to Avery that was not being Rebellious, that was fighting. Fighting for her freedom, for her own free will.

Avery taught her that it's ok to dream and it's ok to pave your own way instead of walking on the one that is already paved. It is ok to fly and it is ok to fall because at the end of the day what is important is the strength and will that drove you to take that flight. If you can do it once, you can do it again.

And from that day Avery became Rina's wings. Maybe that is why her mother hates her so much.

"But-" Avery was about to say more when suddenly Samuele appeared from nowhere with a tray in hand.

"There you go beautiful ladies! Two Hazelnut delight and cookie cupcakes, as you ordered." He set the tray on the table and the strong hazelnut aroma hit her nose. Avery couldn't resist anymore, she picked up the long glass and took a long and deep gulp of the shake. She moaned out in delight, closing her eyes.

"This good huh?" She heard when she opened her eyes and saw samuele staring at her. Something in his silver gaze was so intense that embarrassment washed over Avery and she cleared her throat.

"So how was Grees?" He suddenly asked Rina, turning towards her.

"Oh I'm glad you asked! It's so damn beautiful! The whole city of New Athens was covered under a thick sheet of silver ice and it was breathtaking." Rina placed her hand on Samuele's thighs as she explained.

They both are pretty close too. Avery, Samuele and Rina studied at the same school and have known each other since forever. They are basically inseparable. Sometimes Avery even doubts that they both like each other. And if so she couldn't think of a better couple. Anyone would be crazy not to like Rina, she is everything one might need.

She is beautiful with stunning golden pin straight hair falling to her hips, sexy tan skin and a pair of beautiful olive green eyes. Above of all she is caring, loving and independent, settled just at the age of 24. And it was not that Avery was jealous, in fact she was proud and relieved to have someone like her by her side.

"Avery?" She was pulled out of her thoughts as Rina snapped a finger in front of her eyes.

"Sorry what?" Avery asked."

"Nothing. She was just telling about the myths there."

"The Greek Myths? You know I don't believe in all this right?" Avery said with a clear tone. She has never been a believer, and has always trusted her eyes.

"Well I used to think the same thing but Avery believe me the whole city of New Athens was filled with the proof of their existence! Their stories are so intriguing that I was lost in them!" She said stuffing a cupcake in her mouth.

"Intriguing? To me it's confusing. No offence but what is wrong with their love life? I mean Hera was Zeus' sister in blood but he fucked her and married her! AND has fucked many others after her! I mean... how did she coped up with her husband warming beds with other women every now and then?!" Avery said. She never knew how women comply and except the men who had hurt them and cheated on them. Avery is a very possessive woman, she can share her things with others but she can never share her love or loved one with any other woman.

Maybe that is why she love her father but never thought of him as hers, because she knew that he doesn't belong to her.

"Oh Avery don't say it like that! Many people love Greek mythology, including me now." She said, taking Avery's cupcake and stuffing it in her mouth.

"Hey I'm not criticizing or anything! It's just... it's out of my understanding."

"Alright alright sweetheart. By the way, did you know I was supposed to come the day after tomorrow? But I worked my ass off for 4 whole days to come back here, do you know why?" Rina asked placing her hand on the table.

"Because you missed me?!" Avery asked with pure joy.

"No silly not you! This! I missed these cupcakes! I swear Avery I have eaten so many different cupcakes from so many different places but no one makes them as good as you do! Seriously!" she said and Avery felt a pang in her heart. She was really glad that Rina loves her cupcakes so much but sometimes.... just sometimes you need to be reminded that you are loved and that you are missed... something Avery never got a taste of.

Not being able to participate in the conversation anymore, Avery stood up and walked towards the small corner in her cafe which was decorated as a library. She pulled out her favorite book and sat to read it. It was not a story, but a collection of quotes and poems. These kinds of things have always provided her with the inspiration she needed. And just like that she was ready to fight off just another day....
