"What the fuck!" Elise cursed under her breath and Kai let out a sigh, frustrated to have missed the man by a short inch. "What does the door at the back open to?" She probed as they continued dancing, glancing at the black curtains that blended well with the wall.
"I have no idea," Kai muttered, his forehead creasing deeper thoughtfully. "This is the second time I am visiting this club and it is only now I noticed the secret door. Maybe, it's the VIP area." He shrugged lightly.
"Well, why don't we find out ourselves?" Elise suggested and deftly, the couple moved towards the curtains as they continued dancing, making sure to keep a watch out for any suspicious eyes.
"I hope we can sneak inside without getting noticed," Kai mumbled as they reached the curtains after a few seconds of hustling. Although the place was crowded, the area near the curtains was relatively empty. Elise and Kai both realized that their prolonged stay would only raise suspicions, especially from the bartender who had looked at them already twice.
"Pretend as if you are kissing me." Elise proposed all of a sudden, stupefying Kai for a moment and the man gaped at her like a fish.
"What?" He croaked in disbelief and Elise rolled her eyes at him.
"I have an idea in mind to test the doors and pretend as if you are kissing me."
"Why do I have to pretend? I could kiss you in real." Kai winked at her and Elise narrowed her eyes in irritation.
"And I could kick you in the balls immediately after. Try me." She spat and Kai let out a chuckle before he held her cheeks gently, startling Elise with his soft touch. For a moment, it seemed as though he would kiss her for real, especially with the way he was looking, his eyes flickering between her eyes and her lips.
Kai had never looked at her such fondly and Elise was at a loss for words. Either he was brilliant at acting or...
"Elise, focus." The man in question chided her, his lips arching up on one side and Elise snapped out of her stupor.
Taking a deep breath and forcing all other thoughts out of her mind, she shifted closer to Kai and leaned forward, covering her face and a part of Kai's with her hair. Now, to the people looking at them, it seemed as if they were kissing passionately.
Elise pulled Kai with such intensity that they collided with the door and seconds after Elise pushed him away, only to be stopped when Kai held her neck. He shook his head at her and moved their bodies such that they were now leaning against the wall beside the curtains as they continued to maintain the same position.
"What..."
"We do not want the people to suspect us, Elise. Act as if we are eating each others' lips." Kai answered even before she could reprimand him and that shut Elise up.
"What did you find out?"
"There are no handles outside. The door's locked and it only opens from inside or by using a card or fingerprint."
"Shit, that makes our job difficult now." Kai took a breath as he watched Elise bite her lips until he saw traces of blood on them.
"Elise..."
"What?" She pulled back slightly and this time, Kai let her go. "If we are acting like we are kissing, we need to at least make it seem real." She winked at him and walked back toward the bar, leaving Kai to rethink his view of life.
"Excuse me," Elise called for the bartender and the man came to her immediately, his lips arching up into a knowing smile when he noticed her bruised lips. "May I know where the washroom is?"
"It's at the end towards the left, Miss." The man replied with a gentle smile and Elise nodded at him gratefully.
"That was damn quick." Kai heard the bartender's praise and he raised his head as he wiped his lips. "Good luck, buddy."
"Thanks." Kai raised his brows playfully at him as he waited for Elise to return.
"Is this your first time here?" The man enquired as he wiped the glasses and Kai shook his head, not wanting to alert him in case he had seen him on his previous visit.
"I have been here before once."
"I see." The bartender nodded and started cleaning the counter.
"Hey..." Kai stood up when he saw Elise return.
"I need to leave now."
"What? Why?" Kai's smile slipped and he gave her a look of concern.
"I have an important interview scheduled tomorrow morning and I only saw the mail now. I'm so sorry." She apologized and Kai instantly understood what was happening.
"Not a problem. Let me drop you at least."
"Sure, thanks."
Kai nodded at the bartender and led Elise toward the exit. The crowd was too big and in the middle, he had to let go of her hand. In midst of all the pushing and pulling, Elise slammed right into a hard body.
"I'm so sorry. I'm sorry." She mumbled her apologies, not looking at the man she had bumped into and pushed her way through the crowd to reach Kai, who was already waiting for her.
"I thought you liked the club and wanted to stay here forever." Kai teased as the couple started walking towards the parking lot.
"You must be delusional. Get yourself checked."
Kai just let out a chuckle and it was only when they hit the roads that his smile vanished.
"What did you find out?"
Kai had long deciphered her code words. If Elise had not found any important information, they would not have left the club this quickly.
"When I was in the washroom, I overheard two women speak."
"Wow, as they say, ladies' washrooms are always the best places to gossip and get more information," Kai exclaimed and Elise folded her hands, forcing the man to shut up.
"Are you done?"
"Not yet. But you can go ahead."
"Whatever." Elise pushed back her annoyance. "Anyway, apparently, the secret door leads to another part of the club, and to go in, we need to have a membership. Also, it is not just anything simple but a sex club."
"What?" Kai's brows rose in disbelief. "Sex club?" Elise nodded immediately. "I do not believe it. The club is the best in the country. It cannot be a sex club." Kai tapped on the steering wheel as he waited for the signal to go green.
"Unless..." He mused when the realization hit him.
"Unless?" Elise prompted, confused by his sudden excited mood. His mood had shifted within seconds.
"Unless it is a BDSM club." He glanced at his friend, his eyes twinkling like the stars. "Now, everything falls into place."
Elise's eyes narrowed as she saw the two names at the bottom. Alarm bells went off in her mind and she pinched her thighs to clarify if she was dreaming.'This is not good. How did they find out?' Elise wondered. More than being frightened, she was vexed and she couldn't put a reason behind it. She didn't know why she was exasperated. But she was. The twins were getting on their nerves and she didn't like it.Elise wanted to inform Kai about the email. But she thought against it. The twins were clearly targeting her. Otherwise, she wouldn't have received the email out of nowhere.'But why?' Elise pursed her lips as she read the two names again and again.Elise pushed her against her cheek thoughtfully as she composed a reply.'Although I should be scared that you two know the reason why I was at your club earlier this evening, I'm more miffed because you're crossing your limits here. Please stay within your limits. Otherwise, it'll do you no good.'Elise.Elise sent the email before s
"What do you think, Elise? Do you suspect the Sephyr twins?" Kai glanced at his friend who was staring outside the window as they drove back home. The silence was oddly unsettling, especially after the dreadful incident and the nightmarish meeting with the twins."I do. I definitely do. The Sephyr twins must be behind Craig's death.""Death?" Kai stepped on the brakes, forcing the car to come to a sudden stop and Elise jolted due to the sudden impact."Do you have a death wish, Kai? Spare me. I don't want to die yet." She glared at him as she looked behind to see if they had hindered anyone else on the road. Fortunately for them, the road was deserted and they were alone. Otherwise, horns would have brought out their functionality in the dead of the night, scaring all the sleeping creatures away."My bad, I apologize." Kai started driving again and this time, he was careful and alert. "Do you think Craig is dead?""I don't think, I'm damn sure about it," Elise stated with conviction.
"We understand. You may leave now." Reuel remained unfazed by Caleb's words and gestured with his wrist to leave.Although Caleb was surprised by the two men's reactions, he didn't dwell more upon it. They would handle the matter themselves. He did his duty of informing them. Bowing slightly, he left the office and the door closed after him.Reuel darted a glance at Azael who was already staring at him and his brother got the message immediately. In a blink, Azael was by the computer and his fingers flew over the keyboard as he tried to retrieve the video. He specifically targeted the time after they arrived at the club to get the lead.Reuel picked up his drink and stood behind his brother's chair as he stared at the screen curiously. Azael picked up the camera that pointed towards the entrance of the club and just as Reuel entered the club, a lady collided with him."Rewind it from there." Reuel's eyes flashed as he saw the woman on the screen. From this angle, they couldn't see h
Other than Azael and Reuel, the three men jumped to their feet instantly. They were utterly spooked to find blood and immediately, their gaze turned to the twins.Oddly, the brothers were calm as they sat in their chairs. Their face was unfathomable and Elise couldn’t make out what was running in their minds. However, it didn’t matter to her. They may deny as much as they want. But eventually, their crimes would come to light one day. After all, karma was a bitch.“May I know whose blood this is?” Elise wasn’t as perturbed as her teammates. Instead, she continued to watch the twins as if she was not dealing with the two most dangerous men in the world but someone who she’d soon put behind bars.“That, Officer, is my blood.” Azael broke the tension in the air and Elise finally lost her composure.“Your blood?”“Yes. You see I was careless and injured my foot before you guys came.”“You got injured today?” Elise tone clearly depicted that she didn’t believe a word he said.“Yes.” Azael
“Please take your seats.” Reuel pointed towards the two couches and everyone noticed that his eyes lingered more on Elise than anyone else. While the three men sat down, Elise stood still and watched the twins who were sitting like emperors on their throne-like chairs. She squinted her eyes when her eyes fell on Azael’s white sneakers. Unlike his twin who was dressed prim and proper in a suit, minus the jacket now, Azael instead was dressed casually. “Please take your seat as well, Elise.” Reuel gestured towards one of the chairs that was closer to them, forcing her to snap out of her thoughts. “No, thank you. I’m fine.” Elise smiled nonchalantly and moved her gaze away from the twins. Taking the sudden silence as their cue, the two police officers started their interrogation. “Mr. Azael, Mr. Reuel, Craig Tyrell was last seen in your club. Are we right?” Derek started. “It might be. After all, the club is open to the public.” Azael shrugged as though it was not uncommon for Crai
"We'd like to meet the owners of the club." Daniel and Derek flashed their IDs at the entrance of Black Opal as they waited for the bouncers to allow them inside.Elise and Kai stood behind them as they scrutinized the place. This time, they were more alert and careful as they waited behind the police officers. Although they were just assisting them in the investigation, it was still their duty to accompany them even if they'd be recognized by the people who worked in the club."May I know the reason?" One of the bouncers questioned and glanced behind him, signaling his companion to alert their Bosses."We're investigating a case and we have a few questions we wish to ask them," Derek replied as he looked inside the club from where he was. As expected of a club on a Friday night. The music was blasting off and the smell of smoke and booze filled the air. The crowd was unbearable and Elise felt sick just by looking at them."Follow me." The guard stated monotonously and Elise quirked
