INTERMISSION

Sierra stared down a microscope willing her eyes to focus on the specimen in the petri dish below the lens. She was studying the cells of the plant to see if it held any similarities to plants she’d studied in the past simply to understand more of the make-up thereof. The field research part of her trip was concluded, along with a team of botanists who studied the area in which the plant was indigenously found, them to learn what is needed to survive elsewhere in the world and her to understand how it could be preserved in a manner that would allow it to retain its properties.
