SERA:

There was only one place in this whole world where I felt like I could truly breathe. It was my small art studio. I had begged my father to rent it for me. The windows were filled with soft sunlight, and the air smelled like paint. The silence was gentle, allowing me to pretend that my real life wasn't a nightmare waiting outside.

With a brush in my hand and my bare feet on the paint-stained floor, I wasn't the feared Sera Hale, the daughter of a man who did terrible things.

I was simply a girl who loved bright colors more than she loved rules. I dipped my brush into the color blue… the perfect color of peace… and painted the sky I truly wished I could live under.

But peace was never a real thing for me. I used to believe that monsters only lived inside old stories. Then a real monster used a gun to shoot his way into my life.

My mother died when I was nine years old. A bullet took her life. It happened the same night men screamed my father’s name from the street outside our home. All I remember is her pulling me to the floor quickly, and then the sound of darkness breaking through glass.

Dad always blamed his enemies. I blamed the whole world for the violence. But sometimes, when it was cold and late at night, a terrible thought would creep into my mind…

What if her death wasn't an accident at all? What if someone came specifically for us? What if they try to come again?

My phone buzzed on the stool next to me. It was Dad calling. I stared at the screen until it stopped ringing. Fear lived in our house like another person… quiet during the day, but angry and mean after the sun went down. I always tried to pretend I didn’t notice the signs: the secret calls, the men with guns in the hallways, and the harsh way my father warned me not to ask too many questions.

I wanted a life far away from all of that noise and blood.

A life where only paint could ever stain my hands. A life where being loved wasn't another word for being in danger. I didn't realize that danger already had a beating heart. And it was getting closer to me.

DAMIEN:

It is easy to wash blood from your hands. It is impossible to wash away regret.

My men dragged in the weak man who tried to steal from me. He cried, he begged, and he swore he had a family. They were just excuses, just noise. They meant nothing.

My world was built on very strict rules. If you break them, you die.

I stood above him in the warehouse, the floor cold under my boots. My gun was still warm in my hand. My guards waited for my command. Their eyes showed only fear… that was the only language I allowed them to speak.

“Make sure no one ever finds him,” I said.

Another life gone. Another problem finished.

This was what it meant to have power.. you had to take it, not wait for someone to give it to you. But even after all the people I had buried… there was one memory that would not die.

In my office, I opened a locked drawer. Inside was a small, old silver phone… the only thing I never changed. I opened the only text message thread on it. There was no name, just a childhood nickname I had typed a long time ago :

Cherry

“I’ll find you again one day. I promise.”

The message still glowed, like a ghost on the screen.

She disappeared before I could ever keep that promise. She was stolen by the world I am still fighting to control. Every city I captured, every man I destroyed.. deep down, I was always searching for her. She was the only gentle thing my heart had ever known.

“We found her,” Luca said from the doorway.

For one long moment, the world stopped moving.

Cherry… Alive…. Here.

I could finally reach her. I shut the phone and put it back in the drawer.

“Bring her to me,” I ordered.

The world hid her from me long enough.

FATE:

Two lives. Both tied to violence in very different ways.

One is desperately trying to run from her past.

One is fiercely hunting for his future.

They have no idea how quickly love can turn into a terrible war. And how their two worlds are about to crash into each other.

Sera is painting sunlight.

Damien is walking into darkness.

They are two halves of a past that neither remembers completely…

But one man remembers everything.

Because obsession never forgets.

Because promises cannot be broken.

Because fate always wins in the end.

And tonight?

The girl who is terrified of monsters… is about to meet the man who created them all.

  • The Debt Collectors Bride   Chapter 10 - Shattered Nights

Damien’s POV: I told myself I shouldn't go back to her room. I stood outside my office, my hands tight. I had checked on her twice already. She was safe. She needed space. But every time I blinked, I saw her faint. I felt her cold body in my arms. My chest felt like it was tearing open. She was scared of me. She hated me. But I kept walking. My feet moved on their own, taking me down the hall. They belonged to her now. I stopped at her door. I forced myself to breathe. If she was resting, I would leave. If she was afraid, I would help. If she looked at me with that fear again… I could handle hate…. But not her fear ,never hers. I opened the door quietly, and there she was. Sitting on the floor, drawing. The lamp made her brown hair glow like honey. She looked so peaceful. My chest eased instantly. Air rushed back into my lungs, like I had been suffocating. She jumped when she saw me. Her eyes went wide… the first fear was always there. It stabbed me. But then she saw it w

  • The Debt Collectors Bride   Chapter 9 - A Monster’s Kindness

Sera’s POV: Hours went by, maybe more. I couldn’t tell the time because this room had no clock. I lay staring at the ceiling, pretending I wasn't trapped. I pretended my body wasn't shaking, remembering Damien's angry voice. The walls felt like they were pushing in on me. Whoever poisoned me was still here, smiling, watching, waiting. My heart would not calm down. A soft knock made me jump. The door opened and Damien walked in, holding two boxes. He didn't speak. He just put the first box on my bed, then the second. I moved away fast when his hand came close. He saw it and paused. Then he stepped back slowly. I looked at the boxes. My fingers trembled as I opened the lid….. paint brushes, pencils, my sketchbooks. Everything they had taken from me. My throat closed up. I couldn’t look at him. What could I even say? Thanks for kidnapping me and giving me my stuffs? “They were in storage,” Damien finally said. “Luca said you fought to keep them.” I swallowed hard. “I thou

  • The Debt Collectors Bride   Chapter 8 - Running Isn’t Safe

Damien’s POV: I could still feel the fear in her body even after I stepped out of the room. The memory of her shaking fingers and terrified eyes stuck to my mind. When she looked at me, she was always afraid and it hurt me even though I hated to admit it. But right now, I had to focus on who poisoned her. Someone tried to poison her in my house and under my watch. ————- I walked into the main hall where my men stood. They were silent and didn't know why I called them. “Everyone who works in the kitchen,” I said. “Step forward.” Five people moved out nervously. I studied their faces, their moves. “Who touched the bride’s food?” My voice was low. No one answered, Luca stepped next to me. “Speak. Now.” One man swallowed hard. “W-We all helped… “ “Answer the question.” They flinched as I walked closer. My eyes were locked on them like a weapon. “Who was the last person to carry her tray?” A young maid raised her head slowly. “I… I took it up, sir.” I st

  • The Debt Collectors Bride   Chapter 7 - The Danger in his House

Sera’s POV: The first thing I felt was heat. It wrapped me up, like a heavy blanket. My eyes moved, but I couldn't see clearly. The room was spinning. Where was I? I tried to sit up. A sharp pain hit my head, and I fell back down, gasping. Then I heard voices close by, not loud, but serious. “…not just lack of water. The results show drugs.” My heart stopped beating for a second. I tried to listen harder. Damien. That was Damien's voice, rough with pure anger. “How did someone poison her here? In my house?” he shouted “We are checking everyone,” Luca said. “They didn't want her dead fast. Just weak. To make her easy to move or… kill later.” A cold sickness ran through me. What did he mean kill later? My fingers moved on the sheets. I tried to yell, but my throat was dry, and no sound came out. Damien spoke again, quieter… but much scarier. “I will tear that person apart with my hands.” It wasn't a yell. It was a promise. The voices came closer. I heard foot

  • The Debt Collectors Bride   Chapter 6 - Poisoned

Damien’s POV: “Sera!” I caught her before she hit the floor. Her body went completely soft and heavy in my arms. No sound. No warning. Just sudden weakness. Her head fell on my chest. Her skin felt hot and wet. Fear shot through me like a bullet. Not again, not tonight, not her. I lifted her easily and put her back on the bed. I was afraid to even shake her gently. “Sera,” I whispered, moving her hair back. “Open your eyes.” There was no response. Her chest moved, but her breaths were small and uneven. Panic rose in me, but I kept my voice steady. “Luca!” I shouted. “Get the doctor. Now.” Luca rushed in, his eyes wide when he saw her. “What happened?” he asked. “She passed out again,” I snapped. “Where is the doctor?” “Coming fast.” “Make him faster.” Luca ran out immediately. I touched Sera’s cheek. Her skin was too hot. It scared me. Her eyelids moved once, but she didn’t wake up.This wasn’t right. Fainting before was just shock. But this time? This sud

  • The Debt Collectors Bride   Chapter 5 - Hate Me in the Morning

Sera’s POV: I woke up with a sharp choke, like someone had thrown me in ice water. I didn't know where I was. For a moment I thought I was still in the chapel… the promises, Damien's voice, the world turning black. My chest hurt. When I finally woke clearly, I was in a huge, soft bedroom. The bed was dark and warm. A fire crackled in the corner. The air was too soft, too calm. Then I saw him. Damien sat across the room. He was staring at me, hard. He looked like he hadn't moved at all. My heart started running in my chest. “Easy,” he said quietly. “Don’t talk to me,” I snapped, crawling backward until the wall hit my back. He kept staring. He just studies me calm, controlled like he can see the panic through me. “You passed out.” I swallowed, trying to think. My wedding dress was gone. I was now wearing a silk nightgown I didn't know. Panic hit me. “Who touched me?” I asked sharply. “I did,” Damien replied, calm but solid. “You couldn't breathe. Your dress was too ti
