Chapter 6: The Pity

KAYLEEN

The silence went deafening as he studied me by locking our eyes together.

“Sick? You are a psychopathic woman.” His voice is calm yet they are like daggers straight to me, aiming my chest. They are painful as being burned in fire. He turned his back and it made me grab on his arm stopping him from whatever he is thinking.

“Please, if you are going to tell the police not now. I beg you. I need to get rid of her inside of me. She’s the real demon.”

“Who are you talking about?” he asked still fixed on his position no looking at my face.

“Shai—ra. Shaira!” As I say her name, I saw her smirking at the corner. I think I have worsened since I’m always seeing her. I’m afraid she’ll kill him too. Since Zeke is not changing his aura, I let go of his hand and turn my head down letting all my tears flow out from me.

I just thought he could help me.

“I can see truth in your eyes. Don’t worry, I will help you,” he stated before leaving. Those words made me froze stare at his back getting farther and farther until he is no longer seen by my bar eyes. He isn’t afraid of me at all.

He came back with some groceries of food good for a week.

“Did anyone saw me with you?” I asked while helping him arrange stuffs.

“I don’t know but there is a chance someone might’ve recognized you. I think you are not safe here,” he said.

“How can you believe me easy? What if I did something to you too?” My worried voice made him look at me once more. All I see is pity written all over his face and stated by his eyes. He didn’t mind what I just said and continued what he is doing.

“I don’t know.” He uttered under his low voice almost unheard by my ears.

Even he looks sincere I can’t help but grow a little doubt. He might send me to the police all sudden. Maybe he is just trying to make me trust him and then later drag me to prison. I can’t allow that for now. I still need to get rid of my demon.

“I know what you are thinking,” Shaira whispered on my ear. I can feel her arms wrapping on my waist but I ignored her as if she is not there. This is my secret for now that sooner be exposed to this guy with me.

“Hey, Zeke.”

“Yeah?” We are finally finished and he is now facing me.

“I just have one request. Please don’t come close to me all the time. I’m dangerous.” He only giggled a little but the he is good with controlling and went back to a serious blank face easy. He faked a cough and massage his throat.

“Don’t worry, I’ll be busy with my patients almost every day. Luckily today, I’m not that much occupied with work and got time to come here to at least hear from you. You are dangerous to be outside.” He crossed his arms while talking.

“What did the news say?” I asked out of curiosity.

“It’s some serious offense. You massacred your own family after killing some guy on his Birthday.” His words shattered my heart into pieces. This is not the life that I dreamed. I only wanted to have a friend, a real one. Unfortunately, the one that I found is not real.

I’m crying again sitting to the floor even if there is an available seat to sit on.

“I’m no longer human,” I mumbled, embracing myself.

“Kayleen, listen. You have to control her. You are the dominant.” He bended his body kneeling on one knee just to hold on my shoulder, tapping it very softly.

“What if tomorrow, I wake up that I killed someone again?”

“Stop thinking too much about that. You’ll get more stress. Rest, Kayleen.” He helped me stand up and sit on the bed before he left again. That night I locked my doors with all that I can use. I never stepped outside for the sake of myself.

I felt alone again lying on the bed. Shaira is not showing at this moment and that’s good for me since I don’t want to see her face. She is almost always ruining my day. A sudden knock startled me but I managed not to make a sound and just stand up to walk to the door. I pressed my ear to the door trying to hear something from outside.

“I swear, someone is here. The doctor comes here. I saw him today too.” A man’s voice said, sounding so sure of what he is saying.

“I think we are just wasting our time here. There is no one here. Maybe he just has to fix the room in case if he finds someone else.” Another voice of a man spoke with a hint of irritation. I heard footsteps heading away.

I moved away from the door when the guy from outside knocked again. It becomes harder and harder that I cover my ears. I don’t like the sound of it.

“Stop it,” I whispered.

“Hey! Stop that. We need to go! I’m all tired and hungry.” I can hear the other guy with his angry voice.

“Fine. I’ll get back here tomorrow.”

It’s all silent again after their footsteps faded and I’m still facing the door. Thank goodness I didn’t turn the lights on. I stepped backwards after calming myself down and sat on the bed again. I will definitely tell Zeke to place me somewhere else because someone noticed me. I didn’t know that walking here is dangerous too.

The sound of the crickets centered my attention while lying on bed, trying to sleep. My eyes are closed and my body is on a comfortable position on bed but I can’t sleep because of worry. I’m afraid to sleep but I need rest. The silence, the loneliness and the feeling of being alone is killing me. I deserve it—no—I don’t deserve a life like this.

I can’t help but think of my family again. They loved me unconditionally but I killed them—no—I’m not a murderer. It’s Shaira. The moment I open my eyes again, I almost screamed seeing her face too close to me with a devilish smile carved on her lips.
