The continuous beeping sound woke me up from my deep slumber. I felt no pain. I was numb, and I wondered what the beeping sound was coming from. Slowly, I opened my eyes, and everything was blurry at first, but when it cleared, I realized I was in a hospital ward. I looked around, and I saw Asher sleeping peacefully beside me, but he looked stressed. I put my hand on his cheeks, cleaning the small drop of tears on his cheeks. He fluttered awake while I wondered why he was crying.

“You’re awake,” he said, clearing his throat deeply. It sounds hoarse, like he has been crying before. I said nothing; I just looked at him. He stood up.

“I will call the doctor, ‘’ he said, standing up and running out of the ward. I hum, wondering what is wrong with him. He is acting strange. Not a full minute has gone by and the door opened. The doctor and Asher walked in, and he came to me to check my vitals. All the while, I looked at Asher, who was standing in the corner, avoiding my gaze. I
