Chapter 08

At one of the nearby towns in Hikari, Yushiro is having lunch with his companion, Blue. He won't be able to act all mighty in front of his father— the king— after losing that demon again!

"Your highness!" Blue calls, snapping him back to his senses, looking at her. "You have not touch much of your food. Are you still upset?"

"I apologize." He clears his throat and took his spoon. "That demon will come back in a few days to steal and do harm again. We should keep our guards up."

"Aye, your highness. If only I had keen eyes to aim perfectly at that demon."

"You did your best. I was at fault when I let the beast bewildered me."

"I have never seen that beast before. What was it called, your highness?" Blue asked, leaning forward in curiosity.

"It is the legendary Sabertooth. They said those kind of beast only follows a King."

That is why it had enchanted him how that beast rescued the demon. Could it be that he is the King now? But why would someone so young and carefree as Kenshi be King of Yami knowing how powerful and manipulative the King of Hikari is at the moment.

"Was that demon we hunted down a King?"

Yushiro shifted his gaze at his companion and Blue immediately look down. Nobody dares to meet the eyes of a royalty.

"He is yet to become one. But if I catch and behead him, he shall be never be one," he answered, his tone with deep hatred in it. "You should hurry and finish your meal and we'll head back to our travel."

"Aye, your highness!"

Mizuko was in joy when Kenshi finally showed up to her. If he did that a little later, she would have jumped at him in relief. It was a good thing she resisted and stopped herself.

This world is a scary place where she could even get eaten up alive at night. People here use powers and she could get curse out of pranksters.

"Are you comfortable in the clothes you are wearing?" Kenshi suddenly asked.

"Nope," she utters, looking down at her dress. It looks like something fairies would wear but then again an elf had made it. "The wind could blow hard and the skirt could be lifted. It's weird how they don't wear undershorts."

Just after she said that, the wind suddenly blew  on her way. She froze, her hands were just about to lower to her skirt and  eyes wide after the wind just passed.

"It didn't lift up," she softly said, blinking at that realization.

"It has a spell," Kenshi told her, chuckling. "I would not have you worn out a dress if it lifts that easily, lady."

So he knew? She asked herself. What don't he know in this world?

"You sound like you know everything in your world."

"Not everything," he answers, hands on the back of his head. "I thought I knew everything. It seems like I don't know of you."

"I'm not part of your world. I'm going home after I deliver the message. I'll get compensated by the King, I know of that."

Out of nowhere, Kenshi laughed out loud ridiculously. What is so funny about what she said? The mage's voice in her head she could hear. The king will sure acknowledge of your bravery, the mage said.

"You trust too much, lady. Don't you know that anyone can change their minds any moment? Humans mostly sleeps with feelings different from when they wake up. It's terrifying."

"Should I be scared of what's called human nature? Change is the only thing constant, isn't it?"

Mizuko plasters a thin smile while Kenshi stares at her. It seems like he has been hurt-- betrayed by someone he could have trusted before.

"Yes," he says, nodding his head slowly, "anything can change, indeed."

As they walk further, Mizuko thought of what she had left in her world. Would they think she went somewhere? Would mada'am Vergie still take her back even though she would be missing days at work without notice.

I'll be needing another job then, she groans in her mind. Why did that mage chose her anyway? They should've have known that mother is long dead.

It's just sad how Mizuko could not remember her mother's face if not with Roya's photograph. I want to know more about her. She sighs heavily.

An hour of walking and Kenhi decided to take a rest under the shade of trees. While Mizuko rested her feet, he used the time to look around for water with Zed.

"I do not like what you are doing, my lord. You are concealing who you truly are for those two," Zed told him, flying over in a laying position.

"I have not much things to do. And this entertains me," he stated, bringing a hand over his eyes. Using his ability to see great lengths, he looked for a stream. As soon as he found one, he brought down his hand. "We might need to walk faster for her to stay in someone's house."

"Why don't we ask the legendary Keisuke to let her ride on his back? That will make it easier, my lord."

"Easier you say? Have you forgotten that I have tied my life with her?" he asked, a side of his mouth lifted up.

"Pfft! You are careless, my lord. Entangling your precious life with a mere royal blood mortal is foolish!"

"Are you saying I am foolish, Zed?" He narrowed his eyes at his Kebano. "She has demon blood, Zed. She is half my responsibility."

"Not thoroughly, my lord."

Kenshi stops and lifted his head, gazing at the blue sky. Valentine told him that he needs someone to protect for his power to reach its limit. But the thing is, that vision she had, she said only one lady could bring out his superiority and that lady is neither from Hikari nor Yami but she has blood of both race.

"It should only be her. I need that lady."
