Losing Him

"Why are you looking so sad, Mel?" Evan asked. They both were sitting on the empty playground of their school. Melanie had accepted his proposal, yesterday and even apologised to him for leaving like that in the middle to follow Adrian which Evan understood and assured her with a smile.

"Don't tell me I have pressurized you yesterday to accept my proposal, in front of everyone. I'm sorry if... "

"Hey... no.. It's not like that, Evan. You know I like you, both as a friend and as a person and I am more than happy that you've finally taken this step between us, which I have always wanted but was too afraid to take," She said

"Then why are you not looking happy at all, Mel?"

Melanie sighed at his question and answered honestly.

"Yesterday, I had a very ugly fight with Adrian,"

"And that's why you're sad?" He looked slightly displeased. Melanie nodded.

"Mel, I've told you so many times that he's not a good guy. The people with whom he gets associated with, the things he does, are really very bad and you've seen with your own eyes how badly he bullies you and other students for no reason. He's a terrible person,"

Melanie felt slightly offended at his words.

"Rian isn't a bad person, Evan. He might do wrong things but I know him from my childhood. Yes, sometimes his actions and behaviour angered me very much but he is like that. Understanding him is complicated but that doesn't make him a bad person," She immediately defended him.

Evan just gazed at her for a while but then sighed

"Okay fine. I'm sorry but now don't make this sad face. Today is our first day together as a couple and tomorrow is your birthday, so let's cheer up, Mel,"

Melanie tried to force a weak smile but her mind was still over what had happened between her and Adrian, yesterday. He had left from there without taking her and why wouldn't he? After all, she had told him to leave after their fight but in their earlier fights, he had never left her alone, no matter how bad the fight was.

He had even left today for school, without taking or waiting for her. She hadn't seen him even for once, after their argument.

"Okay, I have something to lighten up your mood,"

Evan's voice broke Melanie's thoughts. She looked at him, confused and then saw him taking something out from his uniform's pocket.

"Colour candies," Her eyes filled with happiness. She loved eating colourful candies. It was one of her favourite things to do.

"I thought to give them to my girlfriend as my first gift,"

Melanie giggled, hearing him and then took the candies from him.

"Thank you," She smiled, widely.

"Okay, so if I've made my girlfriend so happy, can I get a kiss in return, please?"

Melanie's eyes widened at his words. Evan chuckled and then shook his head.

"I'm kidding, Melanie. We don't have to do anything in which you're not comfortable,"

Melanie beamed, hearing him. That was why she liked him so much. Evan was very understanding and behaved very maturely.

She grinned before saying.

"Okay, but only a peck for now," She told him her comfort zone. It was easy for her to communicate with him. Perks of having your best friend as your first boyfriend.

Evan chuckled and then placed his palm over head. He angled her face a bit and after gazing into her hazel eyes, which she blinked as an approval and then he pressed his lips over her soft ones, making Melanie close her eyes and fist those candies in her palm.

But Melanie never knew that, that certain pair of green eyes were staring at both of them, from a distance. He opened his fist and dropped those colour candies on the ground which he had bought for her, to apologise for yesterday.

His eyes continued to stare at their sealed lips which made him turn around and then left from there while rubbing his watery eyes.

The whole school day had passed but Melanie didn't see him. Now it was time for her to go home. She decided to take the initiative and settled their fight because it was making her feel restless and now they were going to home together, she would talk to him on their way

Melanie, with a hope, came out of the school's gate and dashed towards the parking lot, only to let her hope get crushed into uncountable pieces.

She saw her friend, Kylie sitting behind him on his bike. He was about to wear his helmet but stopped when his eyes fell on her. For a hot second, their gazes collided until Evan approached Melanie.

Melanie saw Adrian putting on his helmet and then rode away from there with Kylie, passing in front of her.

Now that thing ached inside her heart. Was he that angry with her that he was behaving so distant? She was at least trying to make things alright between them but he was trying to cut off each and every string with her. She thought.

"Hey, Melanie. Let's go, I'll drop you to your home,"

Melanie, without protesting, just followed Evan and his words.

... ..

"Happy Birthday, Melanie,"

A soft smile formed on her face, hearing her dad. Her father broke their hug and pecked her forehead.

"May my beautiful daughter get blessed with a beautiful, healthy, long life,"

"Thank you so much," She beamed and then her eyes travelled towards Melissa.

Melissa walked towards her and then cupped her face.

"Happy birthday, Anie. May your fate bestowed you with the happiness and life you deserve, my dear and you get everything you want in your life,"

Melanie smiled and embraced her.

"Thank you,"

Melissa patted her head with a smile and then kissed her temple.

After taking her birthday wishes from everyone in her home, she was walking towards her room but halted when she saw him coming out from his room.

Melanie stopped on her track and looked at him optimistically that he would at least wish her. He had never forgotten to wish her on her birthday, no matter the circumstances, so she expected him to wish her today also.

Without taking his eyes away from her, he started taking his steps towards her. Melanie's heart told her that he would definitely wish her but he shattered her expectations and heart by just walking past her, without saying anything to her.

Melanie just gazed at his retracting figure and now she felt like crying badly. Did she really lose him over such a small and baseless argument?

She wiped her tears with the back of her sleeves and then ran inside her room. She shut the door with a loud thud and just buried herself in her quilts and pillows. Finally the best day of her life had started turning bad.

But only if she knew that the best of her life was going to turn into the worst day of her life, where she was going to lose her everything.

"Yeah... everything is settled. Just wait for her birthday party tonight,"

A wicked smirk crept on that person's face, hearing those words.

"Perfect... as Miss Melanie Gomez's special birthday gift, tonight, I am going to f#cking destroy that virginal c#nt of hers, at any cost,"
