"Thane, why can't we just explain to everyone what happened?" I asked; this was starting to annoy the hell out of me. I finally got to the bottom of all of this, and now he still resists believing it.
"Thane!" I shout, he halts in his tracks, "What is going on? Why do I feel like your not telling me something."
He slightly turns back to me, "I'm trying to protect everyone, Evette. When we were younger, Atticus wouldn't take the responsibility of being an Alpha; it was all on my shoulders. He spent most of his time with Khione and left me to deal with everything else. I doubt he's changed."
"You want to know what I think? I think it's you who won't accept him, not your pack. For some reason, you two seem to have driven a wedge so deep that you don't even trust each other."
Thane's fists clench, but I continue, "How the hell am I supposed to be with the both of you when you guys don't even try to repair what's been broken?"
My body was on fire,
~Thane~ Sure, I wasn't fond of my brother, but I didn't want him to die at the hands of Khione's sister. "This way!" Evette shouts, then pulls my steering wheel, "Hey-Now! You're going to make us crash before we get to him." "Then turn!" she shouts, "Alright, alright!" I swat her off. As we park, Evette nearly jumps out of the car, "Geez, woman," I turn the car off and race after her. Soon we're in the darkest part of the forest. "This gives me the creeps..." Evette says, wrapping her arms around herself; I gently lay my hand on her lower back, "Let me go first." "What? You think I can't handle myself?" "Oh, I'm sure you can handle yourself; I'm worried about the person that might face your wrath," I said playfully; she gives me a satisfied look, "Good answer," she purrs as she walks pasts me, her lavender scent was making me want to lose it. But I held myself together, now was not the time. "Look!" Evette grabs m
~Thane~ I had towards the bar, trying not to let my memories fog my head. This was how it happened last time. Khione had spent so much of her time with Atticus that her bond with me started to wither. And now it looked like the past was rearing its ugly head again. "Let me guess; you had no choice but to bring him here because of Evette?" Olivia sits next to me, "Did I guess right?" "Bingo," I down a shot. Olivia rolls her eyes, "You guys are all the same. Huffing and puffing over your mate's attention." "You'd be too if you found your mate," I countered. "Oh, please, Thane. You know I'm right. So why are you voluntarily isolating yourself? I look at my reflection in the shot glass, "I've given her a peek inside my head, I've flirted with her, and I've tried not to become a jealous asshole, but I can't help it." "You know what this sounds like, right?" Olivia takes one of my shots. "Don't say it,"
"A Rogue? Who? What's his name?" I was all questions right now, mainly because Rosie was in tears. "It doesn't matter! I'm rejecting him!" Rosie says, turning away and stomping towards her room. I catch up with her, "Well, I did meet some of the Rogues; I might know who it is..." "I don't care!" she shouts, but by the tears on her face, I was starting to think otherwise. I stop her and turn her towards me, "Look, I know your emotions are wild right now, but maybe there's an upside to this-" "What?! Evette, he's a Rogue, an outcast! He won't be accepted here! The only reason Atticus was allowed back here without being questioned was because of Thane. We trust him, no matter how stupid we think his ideas are..." she grumbles her last sentence. "Well, how did you guys meet? Did he try to hurt you?" Rosie's lip trembles again, "No..." I double-blink, "Then why are you going to reject him?" "I-I don't know," she holds
~Rosie~ "Let me go! Put me down right now!" Being thrown over a shoulder was not how I wanted to be whisked off my feet. But, having a Rogue mate was something I had not expected either. "You wanted to test me, woman," Harvey says as he adjusts me on his shoulder. "You slapped my basket out of my hands, you jerk! Oh, and FYI my baking skills will make your knees weak!" So if anything struck a nerve with me, it was someone who dissed my baking. Suddenly Harvey stops, and I slid off his shoulder; as I looked around the forest, I started to get the creeps. "Why did you bring me here?" I ask; Harvey glances at me but quickly looks away. "Why haven't you rejected me?" Harvey asks with his fists clenched, "You have no idea what I've done," his voice strains I stayed silent for a second, knowing I was thinking of it moments ago, but upon talking to Evette, I wasn't so sure I wanted to do that. "I could ask you the same thing.
I GET THROWN FOR A LOOP when I feel like I'm settling in. Why didn't Atticus or Thane tell me any of this? Maybe they knew if they had, I would sort of flip the fuck out; well, that was too late. I wasn't fond of this dynamic between Alpha and Luna. It felt like a trap, just like a Queen to a King. Some jackass got to decide everything, and the Queen was only there to have his heirs. That's me; I'm the baby maker, Ugh! This made me mad! I had walked back to my room. And when I had walked in, I had forgotten Atticus was in here. "Hey stranger," he gives me a wave and smile. Even though I was still fuming, I decided to come in, "Can I ask you something?"
"Well, this is awkward..." I swallow slightly as I watch Thane run his hands through his hair. "I was coming in here for a shower, so, Thanks?" He chuckles. I quickly grabbed the showerhead whipping around on the floor; then, I turned the water off. "Sorry, Atticus is in my room so-" "I know, you don't have to explain yourself, Evette," Thane says and starts to grab a towel to clean up the water mess. I could sense something was bothering him; it seemed like he wasn't very present. His body was tense, and he didn't glance at me, which was weird. "Thane?" I grab a towel and wrap it around myself, "Are you alright?" "Yeah. Why?" "You seem distant." I then try to sneak a peek into his thoughts, but I'm immediately blocked out, "Wha-Thane?" He turns his head away from me. "I thought you said you were letting me read your thoughts now?" I asked, feeling slightly dishearted. "I shut you out for a reason. So don't take a perso
"They caught Lilia?" This actually didn't make sense to me. Why would Lilia let herself get caught? She had been running around here for years without anyone knowing, something was up."You don't think that's strange? That she just up and surrenders herself?"Thane grabs his jacket, "I don't know what's going on till I get there. But, Ethel's waiting I have to go.""Let me come with you," I gently grab his arm, "If I'm going to be Luna someday isn't this the type of thing I'll be seeing?"Thane seems cautious as he takes a moment to think about it, "Evette, I know you've worked in a job where you've seen a lot, but," he pauses and sighs, "I really don't want you to see this.""Why do you have to do it?" I ask, Thane seemed really tense about this, was this part of what an Alpha had to do?"Yes, and frankly, I hate.""At least let me talk to Ethel before you leave?" I ask."Okay, come on," he says and I follow him out the
Once again, I have opened my big fat mouth even though Thane didn't seem affected by it. I might have cost him a friendship. I really should think before I vomit my thoughts out. I rub my arm, feeling the tinge of guilt. "Damn, I'm sorry. I shouldn't have done that. I barely knew her." Thane puts a hand on my shoulder, "I'm not going to tell you not to say anything. But, what you said got me thinking. I think once Ethel cools down; I'll try and talk to Lilia myself." "I just-It felt so wrong to me," I couldn't get the sour taste out of my mouth. Being in this world was still new, and it was starting to get to me. I began to question if I could be comfortable here. "Also, you don't have to think about having pups with me at this very moment. I'm not going to make you do that. Yes, it is something I have wanted but, I respect you, and I don't want you resenting me because of it." I smiled at Thane's words; I had to admit it made me feel
