~Atticus~
"Why did you not kill him! He was right there!"
Harvey decided to get too close to me, and I could smell the stench of his breath.
"Back off, you reek," It had taken my whole begin not to take Evette with me. However, part of me felt that I deserved it, but I wouldn't let that show with these guys.
"Whatever, you missed a chance to kill your bother, and that's a shame. You will never get to see her, you know? Thane is a hard ass. He probably has her locked up in a tower," he chuckles.
I leer at him, "You just love rubbing salt in the wound, don't you?"
He shrugs, "It's a specialty of mine," he smiles, "Besides, your little mate is pretty hot-" I halt, and Harvey slams into my back, "I wouldn't finish that sentence if I were you," I growled. I was already holding my wolf back from getting what he wanted, what I wanted. But that look in her eyes when she told me to leave made my fucking heart crack.
Did Thane already turn her against me?
I groan and continue to walk towards the Rogue house. It was quite a walk, but I needed to let off some steam. I suddenly hear footsteps behind me, "Harvey, I swear to Selene if you make any more stupid comments-" I turn to see the bright blue eyes of Lilia, the only female in the Rogue Pack.
"Oh, it's you," I continue as usual, "Why are you here? Aren't you supposed to be at the house?"
"I heard you found your mate," her voice was soft and whimsical, "I want to meet her." I never allowed Lilia to fight, she is just too petite, and she was an eyesore with platinum blonde hair.
"So," she taps my shoulder, I turn to her, "Does this mean we can't fool around anymore?" She bats her eyes at me.
For a time, Lilia kept my urges at bay, but I wasn't about to cheat on Evette, "Sorry, Lilia."
She shrugs, "Eh, I knew this was coming. It sucks that your brother has her, though."
I stare at her as she walks away, I had always wondered what she did to become a Rogue, but she's never told anyone, not even me. She seemed too sweet, too caring.
"Why did your pack banish you?" I ask, crossing my arms on my chest.
Her body becomes ridged, "I rather not talk about it," her voice strains.
That was usually normal; being banished was hard enough. But, being away from the people you thought cared about you and loved you ate at your soul somehow. At least that's how it felt for me, for Seven years.
"I get it. I won't ask again."
The Rogue house was just a typical two-story house; I didn't see the need for extravagances like Thane. But I guess when your pack number is more significant, a larger home sustains more. It was different here; everyone usually did their things alone.
No family dinners, no chasing after rowdy little pups like my old home.
You could almost say it was lifeless like all of our lives were at a standstill. That's what mine felt like until I saw Evette.
Now all I can think about is how to reach out to her. I desperately wanted to connect, to feel something other than this. But she told me to leave. Did that mean she didn't want me at all?
Damn it. Why doesn't Evette just reject me if that was the case? Rip the band-aid off already.
I was sick of false hope, and yet it was the only light I had.
Without it, there was nothing but rage, anger, and wanting to make my brother pay for kicking me out for something I don't remember doing. I swear it wasn't my fault; they never believed me; they believed the blood on my clothes.
"Please, just let me see her once more; I promise I'll never ask for anything else," I pray to the Moon Goddess, hoping she hears me. But lately, nothing has been in my favor, not even the mate I'm prophesied to be with. Figures.

~Evette~
"Thane! Come on, I'm fine, let me out!" I bang on the Infirmary door. For some reason, the nightmare wasn't that bad this time. I only saw as if I was looking through someone else's eyes.
Thane had kept me off my feet for a week! I needed air; my feet were more than ready to feel the earth under them again.
"One more day," I hear him say.
"I will jump out this window, Thane, don't test me."
Thane groans, "Why the hell are you so stubborn?"
"Why are you such a pansy-ass," I sarcastically rebuttal.
The door flies open, Thane points the finger at me, "I am not a Pansy."
"Thanks!" I push him out of the way and bolt down the hall, "Don't wait up!"
"Evette! Wait! Your top!"
"Huh?" I halt, realizing I only had my leggings on, "Crap!" I grab a curtain nearby and wrap myself in it. I can hear Thane laughing down the hall.
"Oh, shut it! Give me my top asshole!"
Thane wears a smile as he comes to give me my top, "Do you always curse like a sailor?" he asks.
"Would you rather me say Duck instead Fuck?"
He snorts laughter, "No, that sounds horrible."
I put my top on and head down the hall with Thane, "I can't wait to go outside! I'm never coming back in," I glance at Thane, who gives a raised eyebrow look, "I'm kidding, I'm coming back. I just wanna go on a walk."
"I'll go with you," Thane nudges me and slides his hand down my arm, then intertwines his finger with mine.
"That was not slick," I chuckle, slightly blushing.
"Wasn't meant to be," he gives me a charming smile.
My heart was all a flutter; I never felt this type of feeling with others I've dated. I didn't even want Thane to let go of my hand; was that weird? I didn't know him very well, but I am his prophesied mate.
I glance at him again, watching as the sun hits his face. He sleeks back his hair with a free hand; that's when I noticed the glint of his glasses.
"Whoa, wait, you wear glasses?" My eyes widened; he slightly adjusted them and made my heart spike, lord he looked like a hot librarian-Oops! I slapped my hand over my mouth even though it was my thoughts. I had forgotten he could hear them…
His smile widened, "Is that so?"
Lord, his voice made me wanna say, 'Yes, Sir.'
My face is radiating with heat; this made me feel so naked, like he could see through me, "Can you hear every thought?"
"Most, but not all, since I haven't marked you. But that one, "Thane pauses and suddenly pulls me into his arms, "I heard loud and clear."
His skin felt so warm; I almost wanted to melt into him, "Oh, by the way," he digs in his pocket, and, "You dropped this when we were running."
He gives me a bracelet that I recognize, "Oh my god," I gently take it from him as if it was the most delicate thing in the world, "My mother's bracelet. I didn't even know I dropped it."
My eyes start to burn from the thought of my parents…
"Who could have done that to them," I asked softly, holding it to my chest. My parents were kind people; they had no enemies.
"Those weren't normal murders; those were Werewolf murders, Evette," Thane says.
"You don't think-" I start, but the thought is too horrible to finish.
"What?" Thane asks.
I swallow, "Do you think Atticus or someone in his pack could have done this?"
"I can't be sure, but I wouldn't put it past him."
I felt sick for even thinking it, but I couldn't be with him if he did this.
"You might have to reject him, Evette," Thane says; I look up at him.
"Reject him? What does that mean?"
"By rejecting him, you cut the bond; you have no ties to him," I turn away from Thane, "I feel like you want me to do that anyway."
"Evette, he's dangerous. I can't trust him, and if he did do this, that's all the more reason to reject him, you know I'm right," he places his hands on my shoulders.
"Just think about it?"
I pinch my eyes closed, "I need to go for a walk, alone, please."
"Alright, but stay in my territory; if you go past the redwoods, you've gone too far."
I take my cue to leave and make my way outside. It tore me up that I couldn't bury them, that I would never hear their laughter or see their smiles. I wanted justice for them, and I was determined to know who did this, and if it was a werewolf attack, then it had to be the Rogues. At least that's what Thane says.
But I felt Thane had his vendetta. It was hard to say.
I thought for a second; finally, I decided to take the risk. But, first, I had to ask Atticus if his Rogues had done this, or worse if he had killed my parents.
"There it is, the last Redwood tree," I say to myself, but beyond here, the forest seemed to get darker. I brave through the last bit of light and slip into the gloomy-looking forest.I didn't even know where to find them, let alone if I was going the right way. Maybe my instincts would tell me? Ugh. Being a Werewolf was confusing as fuck.I had no idea how far I had gone, but suddenly the hairs on the back of my neck stood up; I froze.Someone was watching me.I try to calm myself and keep moving, but the snap of a branch makes me burst into a sprint. I race through the trees; I glance over my shoulder and see a brown wolf, probably one of the rogues.
I remembered little things that felt off when I was a child. But my parents just blew it off as a phase I'd grow out of, and eventually, I did. Although, I always felt like something was missing. Maybe that's why I turned to the career of investigating crimes. I couldn't solve my puzzle, but I could solve others, and it was somewhat of a distraction. "Yet, another thing Thane has failed to tell me." "Get used to that," Atticus says, leaning against a tree, "He's not one to bear all the little details." I leer at Atticus, "And you do?" "I prefer to keep it brutally honest," Atticus says. I had dealt with many people, but Atticus seemed to have a wa
I try my best to stay clear of Thane as I rush back to my room to change out of Atticus' shirt, which I was sure as hell, Thane would be able to smell on me.A shower would be best to get most of his scent off of me. So when I get to my room, I close the door and quickly get into the shower. The last thing I wanted was to be questioned about where I was and what I was doing. I was a grown woman, I'm pretty sure I could do what I wanted, but Thane almost made me feel like I couldn't.It was annoying me.The hot steamy shower was just what I needed, I take a relieved sigh as I get out of the bathroom, but as I enter my room, I halt and almost drop my towel.Thane was sitting on my bed with Atticus' shirt in his clenched fist.Crap. I should have burned it; I cleared my throat, "Thane?""Why the hell are you lying to me?" Thane's voice was heavy with anger. I swallowed but gathered my courage."I went for a walk-""To see At
"Your joking?" "Nope. Bottoms up," I take the first two shots and take the burn with no chaser, "Now, you and I are going to play a game. Have you ever played Truth or Drink?" "No." "We ask each other questions, and you can't just answer with yes or no. You have to spill all or take a stiff drink," I play with my hair. Thane chuckles, "Can I go first?" I look him up and down suspiciously, "Sure, ask me anything." Thane turns to me, then slides a shot over to me, "What did you do with Atticus?" My eyes widened, now I knew why he agreed to play with me; I saw him smirk; I looked at the shot then decided not to take it, "I got chased by Rogues; Atticus jumped in and saved me. I asked him if he had anything to do with my parent's death, he didn't react well. Then a Hunter showed up and tried to kill me; Atticus took the blow-" "He what?" Thane interrupts; he then grabs my arm, "Are you alright?" "Yeah, I'm fine, Atticus got
As I walked up to my room, I ran into Rosie and told her what had just happened. "What?! That thing glowed?" She takes my wrist, examining it, "Whoa, I heard about these things, but I haven't seen one." "Do you have any idea why it did that?" I ask. "Well, I'm not sure but, I heard these things are a part of you so, I guess if it felt your attraction to Thane, it could emulate it," Rosie says, "But don't worry, it's not a bad thing, unless-" Rosie pauses, not finishing her sentence. "Unless, what?" I ask with a raised brow. "Well, I've been thinking, are you planning on rejecting one of them?" She asks. I hold my bracelet to my chest, "That is a big question," I swallow. Honestly, I didn't want to do that to Thane or Atticus. It didn't feel right, "I wasn't planning on it..." "You're going to have a hell of a time going back and forth with them. They aren't exactly on speaking terms," she rubs he arm, then an idea pops in my he
Because I had cried non-stop last night, Thane had slept with me in my room. It was odd waking up to him next to me, but I oddly didn't mind it. He looked so peaceful when he was asleep; I found myself moving a piece of hair from his face and admiring his long lashes. I smile, then he opens his eyes and catches me gawking at him. I freeze, then he smirks, "Whose creepy now?" his voice was full of morning raspiness, the type I loved. My lips pressed together, "I was just going to pinch your nose closed because of your snoring," I lied. Thane raises a brow, "Really? How come your mind went nuts when you were starting at me?" he sits up, leaning towards me, "You weren't thinking of snoring," he whispers. I swallow hard, "Stop that; it's annoying." I crossed my arms even though I knew he was right. My mind had drifted off to a naughty place, but I couldn't help it. I was a fan of mornings... "You know what, I'm gonna learn how to put a lock on my mind, so
~Atticus~ There isn't a day that goes by that I'm not thinking about her, and it drives me nuts. Not seeing Evette was hard, and it put me on edge. "Having a bad day?" Lilia asks, perched on a rock. I clench my aching knuckles," Why do you ask?" "You're giving those trees quite the pounding, " she chuckles. I had to focus my frustration on something, and the trunk of a tree was better than anything else. "What's wrong handsome? Evette got you all wound up?" Lilia asks; I can tell without looking at her that she's smiling. "Just pen
"Wait! Evette!" Rosie grabs my arm, "What's going on? What's the rush?" For a moment, I think about not telling Rosie about Atticus being near, but I decide to tell her instead, "I can feel Atticus; he's nearby," I said in a hushed voice. Rosie's eyes dilate, "Are you going to see him? After what we just heard, I don't think that's a Good Idea." "That's just it, Rosie; if Lilia were a Rogue, she would have joined Atticus' pack. So I might as well find out while I have him here." "Ethel said they could be in cahoots with one another; this is a dangerous situation, Evette; we should go back home and talk to Thane," She suggests. "Rosie, please, just give me twenty minutes with him; I'll find out for myself." "Thane would wring my neck!" Rosie says, "Ugh, fine. Twenty minutes, but that's it. I'm putting a timer on my phone, and if you're not here, I'm calling Thane and telling him everything." "Thank you; I'll be right back!"
