*Mason POV*
We went into the Alpha’s office and closed the door. After a second it opened again, and Wyatt’s mother and girlfriend came rushing in. “What the hell just happened down there!?” Veronica raged, her pointed nose flared. “Why isn’t my son the alpha?!”
Wyatt slumped down onto the couch and Delilah sat beside him, holding his hand.
“I don’t know what happened!” Abraham raged. “Everything was going as planned, I felt the link open and after I started the ceremony, I felt the omega’s bonds leave me. It wasn’t until the Elite guards left that I realized that they weren’t going to Wyatt!”
“Then you should have stopped!” Veronica raged again. “Now look! MY SON was skipped!”
“You can’t stop once you have started to renounce the title. It would cause the pack to become scattered. Are you completely stupid?!” Luna Ellie snapped.
“This is all your fault!” Veronica pointed to Ellie. “MY SON deserves to be Alpha! I should have been the Luna from the start! But you and that damn brat stole yet something else from me and my son!”
“That ‘brat’ is my daughter!” Abraham shouted as the sun started to creep over the horizon. “And as of right now she is your Alpha! Show some respect!”
“It's okay, Mom.” Wyatt nearly whispered. “She was always stronger than me anyway.” He held his head in his hands. “Is that why?”
“No, that shouldn’t have anything to do with it.” My dad answered as he pulled a book from the shelf. “The title passes to the oldest by default, only a few exceptions would stop that.”
“Well, we should just go and force her to renounce the title then!” Veronica proclaimed. “Then it’ll pass to Wyatt.”
“Oh, sit down you entitled cow!” Luna Ellie raged, her Luna command blasting through. It wasn’t as strong as before, but Veronica’s mouth snapped closed, and she sat beside her son. “I am so sick of you! Nothing is good enough! Maybe the Moon Goddess skipped your son to spite you!”
“Ellie....” Abraham started. He never liked those two to fight, he always wanted to keep the peace.
My dad glanced at me before he sighed. “There is nothing we can do. Even if she renounced there is no guarantee that Wyatt would be next. Then we would be even worse off. We should just go with this!”
“Yes, you are right.” Abraham nodded. “Well, let’s start with next steps.” He looked at me with a small smile. “Have you and Abby talked about your mating ceremony yet? We need to hurry and plan your-”
We all stopped as the door opened again, and my mate walked in. She was gorgeous! If I thought she was cute before, now she was a knockout! She gained a couple of inches, her legs were longer than before, and her hair was wavy and shining! Her skin was glowing! But when she caught my eye, I saw nothing there.... no sparkle, no light.
Oh shit. I walked around the desk as she started to speak again, but I couldn’t focus on her words. I was seemingly sucked into her aura. Her command flared out and she pointed at the door and Veronica was gone. Wait... did I hear that right? Wyatt isn’t Abraham’s son?! And she knew?!
No wonder Geegee was always beating him in drills! And why she always needed extra help with controlling her power! Wait... that’s also why I started to feel stronger too! Because I am her true mate!!! We really need to talk! I look to her pleadingly, she just called my name. What is she saying?
“Hey Geegee.” I started. “We should go somewhere and talk. It’s a bit hectic here...”
“Yes. We should talk.” She nodded. “But I think we can do it here. In front of everyone. It won’t take long, I promise.”
“Wait Geegee....”
“I, Abigail Hope Winters, Alpha of the Lunar Snow pack, accept your rejection.” The pain was instant and nearly caused me to drop to the floor. My vision instantly blurred, and I felt a massive painful snap in my mind. All my strength started to leave me, and I heard shouts somewhere in the distance. I felt a fist grab me and slam me into the wall; as my vision started to clear I was face to face with my best friend and he was pissed.
Of course, he would be, he promised me before that if I ever hurt his sister, he would kill me. I closed my eyes and waited for the punch. But something stopped him, Geegee! She stopped him! Maybe???
“Get out you worthless piece of shit!” I heard Wyatt yell before I felt myself flying into the hall. I hit the far wall and landed on the floor painfully. Slowly I started to get up, that really hurt, since when was he this much stronger than me? I glanced up as I felt eyes on me. At the end of hall near the stairs stood Geegee’s friends. And they were all staring at me. I tried to put on a fake smile, but Stuart just glared at me.
“You piece of shit.” I heard Angie whisper. “How could you?! She nearly worshipped the ground you walked on.”
Wait, what is she... she couldn’t know! No one was there on the balcony with us! “What?” I started, maybe I could still fix this somehow...
“We saw you, you fucker.” Stuart growled. “We ALL saw you.”
“All?” I responded.
“The entire pack.” Mariah added. “You stupid idiot. Your little speech about how you were dreaming you were an alpha. And how being a beta wasn’t good enough for you. How she wasn’t good enough for you.”
“The link was... open?” I swallowed. “But they didn’t...” Wait, during an Alpha’s ascension the pack can look through the new alpha’s eyes... see what they see, hear what they hear.... feel what they feel...
“The titled members only just connected to the link when Abby woke up.” Brian said. “But when we attached to Alpha Abby we all saw you reject her in the pack link... through her eyes. And then we all felt her pain. No wonder she passed out... that was unbearable!”
I leaned against the wall for support, looking at the floor.
“Well? Nothing else to say?” Stuart growled as he marched up to me. “Don’t you have to pack? Say goodbye?” He smirked this time. “Isn’t the other alpha’s daughter waiting for you? Melissa?”
“Is she?” Mariah chuckled. “That’s not what I heard....”
My eyes widened again, that’s right! She is waiting for me! I go to run past Stuart, but he stops me. “Just remember... Karma is a Bitch.” He growls as he pushes me towards the stairs. What the hell does that mean?!
Running down the stairs I go to her room, the one I dropped her off at last night before I met up with Geegee. Sighing, I knocked on the door and plastered a fake smile on my face. Soon I hear voices behind the door, giggles, and a man’s voice?
Soon, she opens the door in a bathrobe. There is an unknown man behind her. I look at the two of them, confused. Her smile falters slightly. “Oh, Mason. Hey, I was going to tell you....” What is that smell? Is that???
The smell of sex?!
The man behind her walked up and put his arm around her waist. “And who is this?” He asked as he glared at me. He had alpha blood, I could sense it.
“Oh, this is Mason, the Beta’s son here.” She waved towards me as if an afterthought. “He is the one I told you about last night.”
“Right.” He smirked. “Well, I’m getting a shower, don’t be too long. We still have to make preparations soon.”
I looked at his retreating back, still slightly confused. What preparations? “Who is he, Melissa?”
She smiled at me. “He is my mate. We met late last night. He is coming back with me today.”
“What but-” I started. I was supposed to go back with her!
“Yeah, so. Deal’s off.” She chuckled. “Isn’t that okay though? Now you can go and find your true mate.”
“But-” I told her I was already mated last night when we talked! She knew I had to go and reject my mate before we could leave!
“It really is lucky you didn’t meet your true mate before today. Otherwise, we both would have made a mistake.” She smiled again, and now I could see it in her eyes. She was enjoying this. I backed away from the door and left. Deflated and defeated.
Slowly I crept into my room and the first thing that greeted me was the familiar smell of lavender and honeysuckle. The smell of my mate.... my ex-mate. Over the last four months since we were together, she was in my room more than her own. She slept right here, in my bed. As I laid down, I breathed in her scent. What have I done?
I thought back to the first morning after we slept together for the first time, I just stared at her for an hour as she slept. How I accidently woke her up by playing with her curls, how she pouted when she realized that in our excitement, I ripped her clothes to shreds and she had to wear mine until we could get to her room.
Glancing up at the bedpost I reached towards the bra she left there after that day. When I asked her what she was doing she answered that she was ‘marking her territory’ and making the room feel like her own. How we kept having the same disagreement about the window... she always left it open while I always kept it shut tight. I buried my face in her pillow as the tears threatened to flow.
Suddenly the pack link opened, and my eyes snapped open as my mate’s massive pack link shot through my mind. She accepted the alpha title! Maybe... she can one day accept me back too...
*Mike* The bottom floor was chaos. Abby was in front of me as we went downstairs, people were rushing around and panicking. Glancing around there were huge gash marks on the walls, and dark red splashes of dried blood streaked the once white walls. The smell of blood was overwhelming, and an unmistakable smell of pepper was mixed in. Some of the doors on this floor were also marked with a giant bloody X. My heart pounded as I soon realized these were all the rooms of my friends! Where are they?! Are they okay?! In front of me Abby started to growl, I could feel her anger seeping through our bond, and an overwhelming protective urge began to radiate from her. “Oh, my goddess!!! MIKE!!!” I heard a sob from the side and felt a hug almost immediately. “Thank the goddess you are okay!!!” Emily cried as her and Stacey surrounded me. “We’ve been looking everywhere for you!” “Why was your link blocked? Are you hurt?!” Stacey began to look over me. “I’m fine.” I reassured them. “What
“Kitten?” I asked as I opened the door to the darkened room. “Where are you?” I closed the door quietly behind me and locked it before placing the key on a small table next to the couch. Immediately the intense smell of Abby filled my nostrils, making me slightly dizzy. Looking around, my eyesight eventually focused to the darkness. The room I was in was obviously a living room, with a large TV on one side of the wall with a couch and oversized recliner chairs facing it. Stepping over the strewn cat toys I started to walk in deeper. “Where are you?” I asked again, passing a small kitchenette... there was an empty wine glass sitting on the counter by the sink. Going further I reach a large bedroom. I freeze. This place... I’ve been here before... Slowly my head turns to the side looking for the giant windows I remember from my dream. Yes! There they are! What is going on?! Am I going insane??? “The two dollar tour...” I muttered to myself as I recalled the dream I had. The dre
*Abby* (Years earlier) “Wyatt??? Where are you???” I cried, looking around the darkening yard. The wind was starting to pick up, and my little 9 year old nose wasn’t strong enough yet to find anyone. “Wyatt?!” I cried again. “Come on! This isn’t funny!” I yelled as I ran towards the back of the packhouse where the storage room was. I thought I heard something behind me but as I spun around there was nothing. “Wyatt!!! Alright! You win! Game over, just come out!” My eyes started to fill with tears as the rain started to hit the back of my neck and the sky got even darker. A crash from the storage room startled me. “Hey, that’s not fair!” I cried as I pulled open the door. “We’re not supposed to play in here...” I sighed as I looked around the empty room. “Where...” I gasped as I felt two strong hands push me forward, as I landed hard on the floor, I heard laughter as the door closed behind me. “Hey!” I yelled as I jumped up and went to open the door, only to find it locked. My hea
Overhead, the clouds had started to roll in. The summer weather was starting to change from calm and warm, to windy and unforgiving. As a looming threat started to form everyone underneath the sky almost seemed... oblivious. Too wrapped up in their own struggles to see or predict what would happen in a few short hours. *Wyatt* Finally! The last of the payroll transfers are done! Before I go to start on the accounts payable for the weekly food budget a knock on the door snaps my concentration. “Come in.” I said curtly. The door opens slowly, and Mason comes inside. “Hi. Wyatt... I...” “Beta.” I corrected him. “And what do you want, Mason?” He came in, looking around at once was supposed to be his office, passed down from his dad, and his dad’s dad. But now it wasn’t. It was mine. “I... need help.” He admitted, his head down. “I... know I messed up. I had the world and threw it away.” I remained silent, letting him admit his sins. “But. I want her back. I NEED her back. I d
“There’s nothing going on!” I said a little too forcefully as I grabbed the plate. Mariah just looked at me with an amused expression. “I mean it!” “Uh huh. Like I said, there’s nothing wrong with it. Whatever ‘it’ is. I just don’t want to see you get hurt, Abby.” She sighed. “I mean, like I said he hasn’t talked about his past, and he is probably over 18. What if he finds his mate? What if there are some skeletons hidden deep in his closet? I just want you to be careful.” I sighed. “I know. Just... there is nothing there... really.” “But you want there to be?” “I didn’t say that!” I said as I nearly ran from the kitchen, my face burning. As I hurried out, I could faintly hear Mariah chuckling behind me. Damn it! But... is it true that both her and Brian can tell there is something between me and Mike? If that is true, then who else??? Secrecy is so important now, even though it kills me nearly every night it is to protect Michael... As I got closer to my office I breathed
“Luna...” I started before immediately looking down at the floor. “Ni-nice to meet you, Luna.” “You as well, Michael.” I heard her say. “But you don’t have to study the floor so intently.” Slowly I tried to look up, but it was hard. Her aura was strong, stronger than the Elder. But that was to be expected, she was the Luna, a higher position than the Elder. “Mom, you’re back early. I thought you were still helping Grandpa....” Abby started. “Not to worry, Dear, we got that problem all straightened out quicker than we expected.” She said in a cheery voice as I felt her enter the room, closing the door behind her. “I hope I wasn’t interrupting anything...important?” She giggled. “Uh! Mom!” Abby said flustered and I finally diverted my gaze from the floor to her. Her face was flushed a deep red. I heard the Luna sit in the chair across from us and I looked towards the open window behind us. It's not like I was trying to purposely avoid her gaze, but it was like an invisible f
