~•~ The next afternoon, the car rolled to a stop in front of what used to be my house. I had told myself I needed to see things for myself, but unlike the previous day, my legs felt heavy as I knew no one would stop me from going in this time. I closed my eyes briefly and took several deep breaths, preparing myself for what was to come when I heard him speak. “If you’re going to sit in the car all day, we might as well start driving back,” he said. I held my tongue and opened the door immediately. I stepped out slowly, my stomach twisting. The front gate was bent in half, hanging from one hinge. It had been two nights since my house was burnt but the smell still hit my nose. Behind me, Lorenzo shut his door. He didn’t say anything and just watched me as I walked in with his hands in his coat pockets. “Stay close,” he finally said after a while of me looking around for possible dangers. His voice wasn’t as sharp as usual but it wasn’t a suggestion either. I didn’t respond and merely walked further in. The living room and kitchen took the brunt of the burn, almost as though the fire had started in there. Ashes were everywhere and when I looked closely, I could even see some bone fragments. I covered my mouth immediately, not wanting to puke. I remembered the exact spots I’d seen my family right before I ran and there were several bones there. Those monsters didn’t just kill them. They also burnt them after their death. They didn’t leave anything for me. I couldn’t give my family a proper burial. All I had were fragments of bones. My eyes shifted to Lorenzo, watching him watch me. I was gauging his reaction, trying to see if I could tell if he was responsible for this or not. His last name had been mentioned that night, but honestly, he wasn’t the only Russo. It couldn’t be him, right? If it were, he wouldn’t have spared me after I ran straight into his arms. Was I doing the right thing by entrusting my life to him? He stared at me blankly and I looked away, heading for the stairs. The stairs were fragile and looked like they could give up under my weight but I took the risk to go upstairs. Lorenzo waited until I was upstairs before he started climbing as well. My room wasn’t burned, but it wasn’t mine either. Drawers had been emptied. Clothes were thrown around. My mattress was upturned. Inside my closet, everything was scattered. My dressing table was broken. Someone had been in here. I just wasn’t sure if it was that particular night or after. “People search for valuables after a fire,” Lorenzo stated and I noticed him at the doorway. I crouched in front of my broken dressing table and tugged at the left bottom drawer since it was the only closed one. It stuck for a while before it finally gave way. I coughed as dust hit my nose, but my eyes immediately sought out a music box. I reached for the rose-carved box, dusting it. “My dad made this for me when I was seven,” My hands shook as I brushed the dust off. “A carpenter along with being a mafia boss? Impressive.” His tone was flat, sarcastic, anything but comforting. “I didn’t expect to see this here,” I whispered to myself, ignoring the man behind me. “Then you’re lucky you did,” he said, his gaze fixed on my hand. “Keep it close.” I would keep it close but I hated that he was telling me to keep it close. It wasn’t his business. “It’s just a box–“ “Keep it close,” he repeated before I could finish my sentence. He was so used to giving commands that he couldn’t fathom anyone challenging his orders. I could already tell living with him was going to be hell, but it was the best way to keep myself safe for now. I stood up and he stepped aside, glancing at his watch. My tongue poked the inside of my cheek. I wasn’t nearly done here yet. Besides, I owed him a favor for this. He couldn’t rush me. “Do you have somewhere to be? Packing my clothes will take some time.” “These clothes?” He looked around the closet. “Who knows if they’ve been tampered with. None of them is going into my house.” I frowned. I didn’t have any clothes. I didn’t have any properties. What I was currently wearing belonged to the teenage boy in Lorenzo’s house. “Do you expect me to walk around naked?” “That’s not a bad idea.” He said with a straight face. “Take what you feel is important. I’ll check them properly before we go home though.” I didn’t like the idea of Lorenzo checking my stuff, but I understood why it was necessary. The man likely had a lot of enemies. “No clothes though. You can get new ones later.” I nodded once, biting my lips. “What?” “Can I get a phone?” He stared at me blankly. “I’ll pay you back when I can access my money,” He didn’t respond, but he didn’t say no either. I looked for a bag and stuffed some important things in it before Lorenzo started rushing me. As we drove away, I looked back at the house, knowing my life had changed forever, My parents were gone and I was living under a dictator, who wanted me to take permission from him before I even went out. I wasn’t sure how the rest of my life was going to go, but one thing was for sure, I was going to find who killed my family and I would make them pay with their blood. I had never been interested in the mafia, but I wouldn’t mind getting involved if it meant avenging their death. I was the last family they had left. I wasn’t alive for nothing.ISLA~•~Lorenzo flexed his fingers inside me, making me clench around them instinctively. My moans were swallowed when he suddenly covered my lips with his. I couldn’t help myself when I started moving up and down, riding his fingers. He curved them and I let out a muffled moan when he teased me with a third finger. “You’re so fucking soaked,” he muttered, his thumb rubbing against my clit. I clenched around his fingers violently as a familiar pressure began to build. I knew I was close. My hips started moving faster, wanting to reach that peak, but it seemed like Lorenzo also noticed I was close. Instead of going faster, he slowed down his movements, pulling his face away from mine. “Not so fast, dolcezza.”My mouth opened and closed repeatedly but I had no words. I had already begged for him to fuck me with his fingers. I didn’t know how to beg him to let me finish. He didn’t wait for my words as he carried me toward his bed, dropping me gently on it.There was a small smile on
ISLA~•~I took a deep breath before I knocked on Lorenzo’s door.It was two days after I fainted. Just like he instructed, I’d rested. I’d taken my meals seriously. While I didn’t want to give him the satisfaction of catching me fainting again, I also didn’t want to get another lecture from him.By the third morning, I was restless. I’d gotten so used to being busy that staying still was odd, which was how I ended up in front of his door before noon.“Come in,” his voice came through the door.I hesitated before pushing the door open. Lorenzo was sitting at the edge of his bed, scrolling through his phone. Most importantly, he was shirtless. He looked up at me just as I averted my eyes but I knew he was surprised to see me. I didn’t know why I thought it was a good idea to look for him in his room but surprisingly, he hadn’t come out all day.“This is a pleasant surprise,” he said, dropping his phone on the bed as he stood up. I cleared my throat, pretending that I couldn’t see him
ISLA~•~I was embarrassed.I couldn’t believe I fainted. Why was Lorenzo the one who found me? I couldn't even deny clinging to him cause I had a faint memory of me telling him not to go. I was more than embarrassed. I was ashamed of myself.I took a quick shower and spent a lot of time staring at myself in the mirror. My face looked pale and my body felt like it had been run over by a truck. I tied my hair up and slipped on a fresh shirt, telling myself I was only going downstairs because I didn’t want to deal with him fetching me. Not because I wanted to see him.I went downstairs to see that Lorenzo was waiting for me at the dining table. He had his laptop open in front of him but adjacent to him was a plate of eggs, toast, and fruit. He really thought I was a child. He looked up when he heard my footsteps. “You’re late.”I frowned. “You gave me thirty minutes.”“And you used thirty-five.”“Are you obsessed with timing everything I do?”“Only when it concerns your health,” he sai
LORENZO~•~Isla was reckless. I’d said this a million times. This was why when Ricardo informed me she was currently in the gym, I didn’t hesitate to go find her there. She was pushing herself way too hard. I didn’t know what she was trying to prove or to whom she was trying to prove it to. When I woke up this morning and Ricardo told me he had seen her go into the gym almost two hours ago, I almost punched him. After her training in the evening, all she was supposed to be doing was eating and resting, not pushing herself even more as though she was in a fucking death camp.By the time I reached the entrance of the gym, she was already on the floor. She tried to stand up but her arms were weak as hell and she fell back down. I cursed under my breath and rushed towards her.“Isla!” I called out, hoping she’d respond but her eyes only fluttered open and closed. I doubt she could even see me then. As her body gave out, I placed my hands under her back and knees, raising her with littl
ISLA~•~Sleep evaded me that night. I hated it.His words weighed down on me so that every time I closed my eyes, my mind replayed that conversation. His tone, the way his gaze darkened when he said he wanted me. He hadn’t even hesitated. I had thought anger would burn the memory away but it didn’t. It made it worse. It bothered me.By the time dawn came, I gave up trying to sleep. My head was heavy but my chest was worse. I couldn’t tell the difference between anger, confusion, and attraction anymore. So I did the only thing I could when my thoughts got too loud.I threw on my workout clothes and left my room quietly. The hallways were still dark, so I expected everyone else to be sleeping. I didn’t think I’d run into anyone, but halfway down the stairs, a voice stopped me.“Isla?”Ricardo was standing at the foot of the stairs with his hands in his pockets. His shirt was wrinkled, like he had just gotten up. Now that I knew about his relationship with Greg, I could see some similar
ISLA~•~For a second, I wasn’t sure I heard him right.I stared at him, waiting for him to laugh and take it back. After all, it seemed like all he did was fuck with my head anyway. But he didn’t. He just stood there, his gaze fixed on me, waiting for me to respond to him.“You can’t just say things like that,” I managed to say, my throat suddenly dry.His gaze flicked over my face. “Why not?”I blinked. He wasn’t teasing. He was serious. He came and went as he liked. He said whatever he felt like saying. It annoyed me. “Because you have no right.” I hissed out.I had spent the last few weeks trying to get him out of my head. I had put all my time and focus on training and school. I didn’t leave any space for thoughts about Lorenzo, especially with all the secrets he carried. I was conflicted when it came to him. I didn’t know whether to give in or not. I didn’t know whether to demand the truth or not. Everything about him confused me which was why I stopped thinking about him.He ti
