Chapter four

Mackenzie

The four of us were back at Anita's place. The three of them were getting to know each other while I was cooking in her kitchen. It was my mother's chicken pot pie. I have not altered it in three hundred years. Everything is made from scratch and the smell brought them into the kitchen as I peeked in her oven to test the crust of the pie.

While Anita had her eyes closed her parents pushed her into my arms. I caught her balance and her breaths hitch as she meets my eyes. For a moment it's as if we're the only two here until the timer for the oven goes off. We jump apart and Anita bites her bottom lip. I set the pot pie on a warming plate and cut it into even portions.

Everyone takes a seat and takes a cautious bite. Anita moans in delight and I blush. She made that sound just a few hours ago, but for a different reason. I squirm in my seat as I felt slightly aroused by her moaning. Her parents chuckle, looking between us and I look away from Anita. "Mackenzie, this is nothing like I've ever tasted," Anita praises the meal and I look up at her. "Three hundred years must have perfected your cooking skills."

"This was my mother's recipe and I haven't made any changes to it," I say quietly, poking around my food.

"What happened to her," Chelsea, Anita's mother asks curious.

Her face pales and Anita takes my face in her hands. "Breathe Mackenzie, it was a long time ago and he can't hurt anyone else," she says in a soothing whisper and I let out a calming breath, shifting back from my vampire form. She turns her gaze to her parents and says in a soothing tone, "She doesn't talk about her much. I try to avoid asking questions until she tells me willingly."

"I'm sorry, I didn't mean to trigger anything," Chelsea says in sympathy.

"She was killed by the vampire responsible for my existence," I say in an emotionless tone. "I killed him to avenge her. I've been killing them ever since."

"I must say, this dinner is by far the best I've had all week," Charlie, Anita's father says with a smile, changing the subject and I let out a relieved breath.

I smile lightly and say, "Thank you."

I was drinking some of my wine when her mother asks, "What are your thoughts on children?"

Wine sputters from my mouth, caught off guard by her question. "I beg your pardon," I ask as I try to compose myself from the shock of such question.

"Honey, we just reunited with our daughter and they still need to figure out what their relationship is," Charlie says in our defense and Chelsea sighs, nodding lightly.

I look at Anita and she adverts her gaze away from me, embarrassed by her mother's question. Tears fill my eyes and ask quietly, "Were you serious about what you said about finding a witch?"

Her head whips to look at me and noticed the tears in my eyes. "Yes Mackenzie, I meant it," she says with a light smile.

I nod and eat my dinner in silence. Sudden trickling down my wrist, brought my attention to the crushed wine glass in my hand. Anita was frantically trying to pry my hand open and it was then that I heard her voice pleading with me. I open my hand and she gingerly removes the pieces of glass. "I'm sorry," I say in a distant whisper and she looks at me confused as tears roll down her cheeks. "I'm still learning to adjust my feelings after blocking them so long."

"Your mother," she chokes with understanding and I nod lightly.

Once all the glass is gone, my wound heals as if it never happened. They gasp in amazement and Anita traces her finger in my palm. "I'm tired," I say quietly and take my hand back.

She sighs at the lack of contact and asks quietly, "Are you staying tonight?"

I kiss her forehead and head towards her room. I do my nightly routine in her bathroom and strip down to my boxers and sports bra. I slip into her bed and nuzzle my face in her lingering fragrance, the fragrance my mother used. It still soothes me like when I was a child. A small frame cuddles at my back and I let out a calming breath.

Something isn't right. The scent of the pillows doesn't match the person at my back. I jolt out of bed and it's Chelsea, sound asleep. The smell of wine on her breath told me she was drunk and thought I was Charlie. Hopefully she won't remember anything when she wakes up and grabbing my bulge. Charlie and Anita walk in and Charlie's eyes widen at my bulge in my boxers. I grab a pillow and cover my groin.

"We'll, I guess we won't have to worry about those babies she asked about," she smirks at me then Anita.

"Not at all the way I expected you to find out," I mutter quietly avoiding eye contact. Tears fill my eyes at the thought of children and choke quietly, "I'm the only of my kind, I don't know if it's possible to give what your wife is asking.

"Vampires can conceive with other vampires the same way humans do, but I'm not sure if I can," I say quietly and lock myself in the bathroom.

"We can find out," Anita says through the door. "Let's find this witch first and go from there one step at a time. Okay?"

I let her words sink in and open the door. Tears roll down my cheeks and she wipes them away. She takes my hand and brings me to her bed. She lays on her back and taps her chest. I smile lightly and climb in next to her. I lay my ear over the beat of her chest and it took me back to when I cuddled with my mother when I was upset. She strokes my hair, the same way she used to and tears pool on her chest.

"Mack, what's bothering you," she asks in a soothing whisper, using the same nickname she gave me.

"It's little things you do that remind me so much of my mother. It's almost like she was reborn in you. Just don't stop being you, please. I miss this," I choke quietly, pulling her closer to me.

Anita

Mackenzie just told me I do things that remind her of her mother. I'm not sure how I feel about that. This beautiful creature has lived three hundred years alone and the only person who showed her love was her mother until she was killed right in front of her. Living all these years with only the memories of her mother to have some stranger force those forgotten feelings to the surface again.

For a woman who puts off this strong vibe, she's as soft as a marshmallow. Having her all to myself felt like a dream, but she's as real as the air I breathe. I trail my fingers lightly over her arm draped over my side and she hums a content sigh. She pulls me to roll on my side, tangling our legs as her bulge presses at my entrance.

My breaths hitch as she hides her face between my breasts. Her even breaths tell me she's asleep and I stroke her hair. As I lay here with her I can't help but think I'm falling in love with her. She said we need to find a witch to make me immortal so we can live our lives together for eternity.

Holding this woman as she slept and I knew it's exactly what I wanted, to live my life with her. Thinking about children with her puts a smile on my face. Once things grow between us as a couple, I'll stop the birth control. I have no doubt I can conceive a child with her. I spot my antibiotics for the tooth infection I had this week and it hits me. Antibiotics counteract the affect of birth control and I had unprotected sex with Mackenzie.

I smile as tears fill my eyes at the thought of the possibility of there being a baby forming as I hold this woman in my arms. I hold her closer, if that's even possible with how close we already are. A knock on my bedroom door brings my attention to my my parents looking in at us. "How is she," my mother asks with concern, sobering up from her short nap.

"Still missing her mother after three hundred years. There's a chance I could end up pregnant after today. It's the reason we were late for our meeting. I forgot about antibiotics counteracting the affects of birth control," I choke with a light smile.

"We know a witch that can help both of you," my mother chokes with a smile and I let out a relieved breath. "We'll talk about it in the morning, get some sleep."

I woke to Mackenzie's morning wood pressed firm against my opening and let out a low moan. She rolls in her sleep, pinning me to the bed, driving her morning wood between my legs. My breathing quickens and she lifts her face from my chest. She meets my hooded eyes and looks down the line of our bodies to where we're practically as one.

She looks back up at me and I pant with need. She removes what blocks her from entering me and with one soft thrust of her hips she fills me until we're skin to skin. Her lips on mine muffle my moan and together we move our hips in a passionate rhythm.

The door to my room opens and quickly closes, but we don't stop. She looks down at me with tears in her eyes and chokes in a breathy whisper, "I have this weird feeling and it intensifies with your touch. I crave this feeling and don't want it to stop."

"That's love Mackenzie and I feel it too," I choke with a smile, pulling her lips back to mine in a passionate kiss.

Moments later I feel as we come in unison and she looks down at me with passion filled eyes. "I love you Anita," she says in a breathy whisper, caressing my face.

"I love you too," I say with a smile and we get dressed for breakfast.

My parents smirk at us when we enter, but we're in too good of a mood to acknowledge it. The breakfast they made smelled delicious and Mackenzie pulls a chair for me at the table. Mackenzie's smile brightens the room and I get lost in her eyes. She was talking with my parents, but I wasn't paying attention.

Moments later she's in front of me with concern in her eyes and her hands caressing my face. "Hmmm," I hum quietly.

"Maybe you shouldn't work tonight, you seem distracted," Mackenzie says in a soft whisper as I look at her with lost eyes.

"Okay," I murmur quietly and she kisses my forehead.

I hum with content and she sits next to me. She rubs at my thigh and I felt grounded by her touch. Breakfast is placed in front of us and she pulls her hand away. I sigh at the lack of contact and start eating. "Anita," my mother says with concern and I look at her. "You look upset, what's wrong sweetie?"

I smile lightly, gaining everyone's attention. Mackenzie's warm hand squeezes my knee and I let out a calming breath. "I guess I'm just a little overwhelmed with the sudden shift in my life," I say quietly and look at Mackenzie. "I'm not sure I'd have been able to get through any of it without you."

"Your parents were telling us about the witch they know. Are you still interested or do you need time," she asks as tears fill her eyes. "I'll understand, time is all I have. I've waited this long for someone, I can wait longer."

"I want to wait a little while, but not because I don't want to be with you. I want to get to know more about you, build our connection first," I say with a light smile and the tears in her eyes fall." I meant what I said in the bedroom Mackenzie and I don't regret it, any of it."
