ANMELDENClaire's hand slid slowly from Lucas's chest down toward the inside of his thigh. She caught her bottom lip between her teeth, looking up at him through her lashes. "Is this good?"
The combination of her sugar-sweet voice and the boldness of her hands was enough to shake even a man as controlled as Lucas. The others at the table watched, clearly a little stirred themselves by how far she was willing to push things their expressions shifting into something openly entertained. Lucas's cold composure gave way, bit by bit, to something playful and edged with mischief. "You want it?" His voice had dropped an octave, rough at the edges. Claire looked up at that ridiculously handsome face and nodded, soft and serious. "Mm-hm." His mouth curved. He reached out and pinched her cheek, light and teasing. "Beg for it, and it's yours." That caught her off guard she hadn't expected the aloof, untouchable man to suddenly flip the game on her. A flush crept across her face, and her lips parted in a pout. "Lucas... please?" Her wide, pleading eyes and the softness in her voice would have brought most men to their knees on the spot. Lucas caught her wrist and pulled, drawing her flush against his chest. Claire went still, pressed against all that solid muscle, and something dark flickered behind his eyes. He tipped her chin up, his mouth drifting toward hers slowly, close enough that she was certain certain he was about to kiss her. But just as their lips nearly touched, the corner of his mouth ticked upward in the faintest smile instead. "You really want it that badly?" His voice, low and warm, brushed over her skin along with his breath tobacco laced with that impossible cologne and for a second, Claire's mind went completely blank. This man is dangerous. He pulled something out of her that Nathaniel never had. Nathaniel had been handsome, sure, but he'd never made her feel anything close to this kind of pull. Claire smiled, tilted her chin the rest of the way up, and closed the last inch herself pressing her mouth against his, drawing gently on his lower lip. Her kiss was searing, her tongue tracing along the seam of his mouth. Lucas held perfectly still for one heartbeat, his whole body going rigid and then he surged forward, taking control of the kiss with a hunger that surprised even her. The men around them exchanged knowing looks, grinning. The kiss stretched on, growing hotter, more reckless by the second, until finally Lucas pulled back. Without a word, he scooped her up into his arms, stood, and walked straight out of the bar. "I'm heading out. Enjoy the rest of your night," he called over his shoulder. One of his friends laughed after him. "Take care of yourself, Kane. Have fun." He shot a loaded look at the others as Lucas disappeared through the doors. Lucas carried Claire out to the parking lot and stopped beside a champagne-gold Rolls-Royce Phantom. Claire's eyes widened at the sight of it. That car has to be worth a fortune. She'd suspected he had money the second she'd spotted him at the bar. She just hadn't expected this. Some things really do show, no matter how quiet a person is about them. Looks like I landed the perfect catch tonight. Looks, money, and everything in between. She was still turning that thought over when he set her down in the passenger seat. Lucas leaned across her to fasten her seatbelt, his mouth grazing dangerously close to her ear as he did. The warmth of his breath against her skin sent heat rushing straight to her face. She looked up at him, eyes half-lidded. "Lucas... you're such a tease." He glanced down at her flushed cheeks and laughed under his breath, that wicked little smile doing devastating things to her pulse. Straightening up, he shut her door, walked around, slid into the driver's seat, and started the car. Claire sank back into the leather and studied him properly for the first time. He drove with total focus, his profile cut sharp and clean in the passing light. That face should be illegal. Thick, dark brows swept up toward his temples, framing a pair of narrow, sharp eyes that gave him an air of command most men spent a lifetime trying to fake. In twenty-four years, Claire had never once seen a man built like this. And rich, on top of everything else. His straight nose, the firm line of his mouth she found herself staring longer than she meant to. Handsome, wealthy, and utterly unbothered by his own effect on people. The full package. Standing, she guessed he'd top six-three easily. And his body she'd felt it firsthand, pressed against her was carved with the kind of muscle that came from discipline, not luck. Lucas Kane was, without exaggeration, flawless from head to toe. Claire allowed herself a small, satisfied smile. Tonight, she thought, glancing sideways at him, might just be my lucky night.Claire smiled, leaning in like she meant to close the last inch between them and then shoved him back at the very last second. She'd perfected the art of the tease. Keep a man just hungry enough, and he'd stay interested for the long haul.Lucas, unsurprisingly, wasn't in the mood to let her get away with it.If she's going to tease, he thought, she can finish what she started. He caught the back of her head with one hand and kissed her properly this time deep, deliberate, impossible to escape. His other arm locked around her waist, holding her in place as he took his time with her.The kiss burned through whatever resistance she'd been putting up, and Claire felt her composure slipping fast. She gave in, matching him, losing track of everything except the two of them. His hands wandered, bold and unhurried, and for several long minutes neither of them noticed or cared that they were still in the middle of a restaurant. They were far too absorbed in each other to notice the waiter who
The Koenigsegg rolled smoothly through traffic.Claire turned to look at him, a teasing smile on her lips. "President Kane really is something, having a suitor that devoted."She had no intention of competing with Vanessa Sinclair for anything Lucas was already exactly her type without the added drama. He was gorgeous, wealthy, and impossible to ignore. Frankly, what woman wouldn't be interested?Lucas kept one hand on the wheel, a faint, wicked smile tugging at his mouth."Fine by me."Claire pressed on, curiosity getting the better of her. "So she wasn't lying? You really weren't interested in women before?""Wasn't. Until you."His voice came out low and easy, and something about the simplicity of it landed harder than it should have.Claire felt a small, private thrill at that.Could it be, she thought, that I really was his first?"So before me there'd genuinely been no one?"She kept nudging, patient, curious. His hands stayed loose and elegant on the wheel, pale against the bla
Claire gave herself over to it completely, no longer holding anything back. This man was demanding, intense, and utterly unlike anyone she'd been with before and she was enjoying every second of it.If I'm going to be swept up in this, she thought, I might as well enjoy the ride. There was something satisfying, too, in knowing exactly how much he wanted her. They didn't surface until well past noon.Eventually he carried her to the shower, where round two got just as thoroughly out of hand as the first. They finally emerged clean, unhurried, thoroughly spent.Claire lay stretched across the bed, boneless with exhaustion, her stomach growling loud enough to be funny.Lucas, meanwhile, had already dressed a sharp suit and tie, looking freshly composed and unbothered, like the last few hours hadn't happened at all.Even in a five-thousand-dollar suit, Claire thought, watching him from the bed, he still looks like trouble wearing a nice jacket.Lucas draped a blanket over her and stepped
Highgrove Estate sat on the western edge of Meridian City, tucked against the cool base of the hills. It was its own private world complete with private roads, its own security, and a reputation as the most exclusive residential enclave in the city.Lucas Kane did not take Claire Bennett back to the villa they had used before. He drove her straight to Highgrove, the place he preferred above all others. The white Koenigsegg glided through the gates. Claire watched the grounds roll past the window: perfectly clipped lawns, a still blue artificial lake, and elegant pavilions half-hidden among the trees. Everything spoke of quiet, expensive power. The car stopped in front of a grand European-style villa. White stone walls were carved with delicate details; floor-to-ceiling windows flashed in the late light.Lucas stepped out, opened her door, and lifted her into his arms without a word. The scent of his cologne wrapped around her as he carried her inside. The living room was vast and spar
"Feel good, baby?"Morning light spilled through the curtains.Claire lay stretched across the sheets, a few faint marks scattered across her skin. She opened her eyes, found Julian watching her with that same wicked grin, and smiled back."Very.""You're something else, you know that."She leaned in and pressed a lazy kiss to his mouth. After they'd both cleaned up, Julian drove her to work in the Bugatti, the car drawing more than a few stares as it pulled up outside her building. He leaned over and kissed her cheek before she got out.She smiled, stepped out, and gave him a small wave through the open door."Bye.""I'll pick you up after work," he called after her, something warm in his voice. She hesitated only a beat before nodding, a smile tugging at her lips. She turned and disappeared into the building, her heels clicking against the pavement.Claire settled into her office chair, crossed her legs, and took a sip of water before turning on her computer, ready to get to work.T
"Not here."Claire was thoroughly captivated by this point, but she'd never been one for backseat encounters. She looped her arms around his neck and murmured the words against his ear, soft and certain.Julian pulled back, taking in her flushed face, and smiled, low and wicked. "Okay."He helped her straighten her dress, walked her to the passenger seat, and slid behind the wheel.Claire settled back, glancing around the interior with mild curiosity. The car smelled faintly of lavender, every surface finished in something clearly expensive. This wasn't just any luxury car.She caught sight of the emblem on the steering wheel and went momentarily still.A limited-edition Bugatti Veyron. Worth somewhere north of fifty million.Who exactly is this man?Clearly someone with serious money behind him. She'd thought landing someone like Lucas wealthy, gorgeous, powerful had already been an enormous stroke of luck. And now, somehow, she'd caught someone who matched him on every front.Guess
