Chapter 1: Digital Violation

The neon blue glow from three curved monitors reflected off Noah Valen’s glasses, casting a futuristic aura that contrasted with the piles of instant ramen cups and energy drink cans on his peeling wooden desk. His fingers danced across his mechanical keyboard with the rhythm of a frantic symphony, triggering a clackclackclack that filled the cramped apartment on the city’s outskirts. On the center screen, a glowing green progress bar hit 98%.

"Almost there, you bastard. Almost there..." Noah whispered, his voice raspy from fortyeight hours of sleep deprivation.

He had just accomplished the impossible in the underground community: breaching the Iron Citadel, the digital security system of the De Luca family. It was no secret that the De Lucas weren't just property developers; they were a syndicate controlling the flow of dark money across the continent. Breaching them was akin to putting one foot in the grave, but Noah needed that data. He needed life insurance—or perhaps he was just too arrogant about his own skills.

PING.

The notification sounded like a victory bell. The bar turned 100%, and the text 'D******d Complete' flashed smugly. Noah leaned back into his gaming chair, its foam long since collapsed, and let out a long breath he’d been holding in his throat. "Damn, I actually got it. The kids on the forum are going to lose their minds when they find out I looted the De Luca server all by myself."

He reached for a nearly empty soda can, intending to celebrate with the dregs of the warm drink. But just as his lips touched the rim, his eyes caught something strange on the third monitor—the one he used specifically to monitor his own network traffic. There was an anomaly. A small data packet, hidden behind layers of encryption, was conducting twoway communication with an unknown IP address.

Noah’s blood ran cold. "Wait... what is this?"

He immediately put the can down—spilling some onto his mousepad—and leaned back toward the screen. His hands moved swiftly, opening a command terminal to type a line of code to trace the packet's origin. His heart hammered against his ribs in a painful rhythm.

"No way. I used seven layers of VPN, my proxies bounced through three different countries, and I’ve been spoofing my MAC address every ten seconds," he muttered, panic rising. He tried to kill the connection, but his cursor suddenly froze.

His screen flickered. One by one, the terminal windows he had opened closed on their own, replaced by a new window displaying a satellite map with a red dot blinking directly over the coordinates of his apartment.

"A backdoor..." Noah hissed, realizing his mistake. "They let me in on purpose. They put an active tracker inside the file I downloaded."

This wasn't just a simple trace; it was a realtime counterhack. Someone on the other side wasn't just some runofthemill IT guy; they were a digital predator who had been waiting for Noah to fall into the trap. Noah ripped out his LAN cable, but it was too late. The red dot on the screen had stopped moving. It was sitting perfectly still, right over his location.

"Shit, shit, shit! I gotta get out of here!"

Noah bolted from his chair, grabbed the external hard drive containing the stolen data, and shoved it into the pocket of his dingy hoodie. He kicked his PC tower, trying to reach for the bottle of industrial alcohol he kept under the desk for emergencies—a scorchedearth plan to destroy all physical evidence.

But before his fingers could touch the bottle, a strange humming sound came from outside the window. It wasn't the wind. It was the sound of rotors. A drone.

"Damn it, they're fast!"

Noah ran toward his small kitchen, intending to slip out the fire escape, but he stopped dead in his tracks as every light in the apartment went out. A suffocating silence blanketed the room, leaving only the moonlight filtering through the dirty curtains.

In the darkness, Noah heard the rhythmic sound of footsteps in the hallway outside. Not just one person, but many. Heavy, steady, disciplined footsteps. The sound of tactical gear shifting and the metallic clinking of weapons brushing against bulletproof vests made his skin crawl.

"I’m dead. I’m really going to die today," he thought, his hands shaking violently as he fumbled in the dark.

He looked for another way out, but suddenly—BANG!

The front door was blown to pieces, shattered by an explosive or a breach with incredible force. Noah was thrown backward, his back slamming into his computer desk, causing his expensive monitors to crash to the floor. Dust and smoke filled the room.

Several flashlight beams mounted on rifle barrels instantly locked onto his chest and face, blinding him. Noah raised his hands to shield his eyes, trying to catch his breath amidst the dust. He felt the cold muzzle of a gun press against his neck, forcing his head back.

"Don't move, little rat," a heavy voice commanded from the shadows.

Noah gasped, sweat streaming down his temples. He could see silhouettes of several massive men in black uniforms surrounding him. Suddenly, the crowd parted, making way for someone who walked in as casually as if he were strolling through a fivestar hotel lobby rather than a trashed, rundown apartment.

The man wore a dark gray threepiece suit that looked immensely expensive, even in the dim light of the flashlights. His leather shoes gleamed as he stepped over the door debris without hesitation. His face was sharp, with a strong jaw and eyes as black as soot that radiated absolute dominance.

Matteo De Luca.

Noah swallowed, his throat as dry as a desert. He recognized that face from the thousands of articles and files he had just hacked. The Don himself had come to catch him.

Matteo stopped right in front of Noah, who was still slumped on the floor. He crouched slowly, meeting Noah's eye level. The scent of expensive cologne mixed with the smell of gunpowder filled Noah’s senses. With a calm motion, Matteo pulled a pistol from beneath his suit jacket and pressed the stillwarm muzzle directly against the center of Noah’s forehead.

"So," Matteo’s voice was low, almost a deadly whisper. "You’re the one who dared to peek inside my house, hm? You have ten seconds to give me one reason why I shouldn't put a hole in your head right now.”
