Treyah left me as we reached the border of Arraya's land. I’m lonely here. All I have is Willow and Treyah. At night for meals I feel isolated. It feels odd to admit, but I’m so lonely, I miss Bryan’s pack. I miss having people smile and wave at me. I miss idle conversation. I make it to Arraya’s altar. Before I can ask to approach, I hear her voice, “Hurry up, girl. I’ve been waiting for my turn.”

“I was told that it is customary to ask before approaching,” I tease.

“You are invited indefinitely. There is no need for you to ask. I personally blessed you.” Arraya says with amusement. I approach her altar. “Sit.”

I sit on the altar. Teasingly, I say, “There isn’t a blood moon tonight, right?”

“No. You are safe tonight. The fey will not come here.”

“Why not? Do they not have free rein over the island?” I asked.

“There is nothing to fuck here. Only Nora and Willow have children.” Arraya almost sounds sad.

“What’s in Nora’s domain?” I questioned. I’ve not traveled into her territory yet.

  • The Dragon's Stone   Tru's first trial

I arrive at the mountain just as the sun starts to set. The darkness of the cave terrifies me. Pulling out the light crystal, I entered the cave. The darkness seems to swallow the light because I still cannot see in front of my face. The darkness seems to pulse. All the light from the crystal appears to be absorbed. The deeper I go into the cave, the dimmer the crystal becomes. It isn’t long before it stops illuminating.Keeping my hand in front of me to find the side of the cave, I feel nothing as I walk. I even tried to step to the side, trying to find the cave wall, but it seemed to open into a spacious area. Or perhaps I’m so disoriented that I am walking in a circle.I see a dim light in front of me and begin walking towards it. The light is a fire. Why is there a fire in the middle of a cave? Who built the fire?Something is vibrating in my pocket. Reaching in, I pull out the lighting crystal. It is glowing red instead of its typical white. “What’s wrong?” I whisper.“Well, well

  • The Dragon's Stone   I have to excersize

The weeks seem to pass slowly. Taran visits once every seventh day. He never steps into my hut. Something about it bothers me. We always sleep under the stars on a grass plain. When he arrives, I always show him my progress. Though meditating has still been a challenge, I’ve learned to grow plants and help flowers bloom. He never mentions me coming home, even when I ask.Today, after breakfast, I saw Willow. “We are going to do something different today.” She says with a hint of excitement. “I want to work on your stamina. You are going to do five laps around this meadow. Then I want you to visit Arraya. You will stay with her tonight.”“Should I take a bag?” I asked.“If you want.” Willow replies. “But you cannot come here tonight. The high fey are coming, and I do not want you around them. They have a tendency to be handsy. The dragon king will not take kindly to a fey male attempting to woe you.”I laugh, “Why are they coming tonight?”“It is the in-between of summer and fall. A me

  • The Dragon's Stone   Until the end of time

My nails dig into Taran’s back as I feel him inside me. My legs are wrapped around him as he presses me against a rock. The river Taran mentioned empties into a large pool. We decided to bathe there until one thing led to another and I ended up pinned against a boulder. Taran finishes with a low groan while I scream out in pleasure. We share an intimate kiss before he presses his forehead to mine as we try to catch our breath. “Don’t pull out yet,” I whisper as Taran starts to pull away.“I wasn’t. I was just going to grab you.” he replies with a grin. Taran wraps his arms around me waist and pulls me away from the rock. “When this war ends and you are home with me, we are spending days in our bed.”I smile, “We spent four months alone on an island together. Was that not enough for you?”“A millennium with you isn’t enough.” Taran gently says, “No amount of time will be enough.”Touching his cheek, I softly say, “Taran, I-“That is enough. You two had your fun. Mother is waiting.” Tre

  • The Dragon's Stone   Meeting the spirit of land and mountains

I wake before Taran. Kissing his cheek, I whispered, “I love you.” The sun hasn’t begun to rise. I quickly dress then sit on a rock nearby to gaze out into the sky.The sound of humming gets my attention. I follow the sound and notice the trees and grass stop almost on a line where a rocky terrain begins. The humming grows louder as I approach an altar. “There you are, girl. I was wondering when you would visit me.” A female voice says gently. It sounds as if she is all around me. “Come sit. There is much to share.”“Are you, Arraya?” I asked. “The spirit of the ground and land?”“Yes. And you are the sorceress reborn. The bringer of magic. The queen of dragons.”I shake my head, “I’m none of those things.”“Sit,” the gentle voice says.I sit on the altar, “Is this when I’m sacrificed?”There is a laugh, and amusement in her voice, “Not today. We only sacrifice during blood moons that land on the fifth Thursday of a month.”I laugh. “That is comforting to know.”“Tell me, sweet child,

  • The Dragon's Stone   A visit

The next couple of days follow the same routine. I’m left alone through most of it. Outside of Willow, no one speaks to me.I continue to try meditation with little luck, and balance seems impossible. Willow seems patient, but I’m sure she is growing frustrated. During our lessons, Willow often reminds me to clear my mind. It sounds so easy, yet my mind is never clear. On the seventh day, I sit under the oak tree trying to meditate when I hear a familiar voice, “Hello little dove.”I turn to see Taran standing next to a tree. My legs don’t seem to move fast enough as I run into his arms. Taran catches me and spins me. “I’ve missed you, my dragon,” I say, reluctantly pulling away.Taran places me back on the ground, “How are you? Willow told me that you’re struggling.”I nod, “I’m not doing a good job with meditating. I can’t clear my mind.”Taran notices the journal, “Have you been writing?”I shake my head, “I can’t think of anything worth writing.”“Sometimes to get the thoughts out
