Five months later

I've been at this job for five months and have gotten used to it. I learned how things work here and got to meet more people. Not everyone who works here is cruel. Olivia is my assistant, and she is the most cheerful person in the office. Aiden assigned her as my assistant after seeing that I and Ema did not get along. I couldn't stand her and her attitude. I mean, I understand she is the 'boss's assistant' and seems to be more than that, but it doesn't explain why she hates me so much. Olivia helped me and taught me how things work around here. She explained to me the basic roles in the workplace and told me what I was allowed to do and what not. She is basically my personal counselor. She gave me a little character description of each of the employees that work here so that I would know how to interact with them and who not to talk to. She has been working here for almost 5 years, so she basically knows everyone.

It's been 5 months of me working as hard as I can so I don't get fired, and it seems that I'm getting pretty good at my job, but my main concern is the big boss. I know Aiden is like the second boss and is in charge of everything around here. Olivia informed me that, apart from Aiden, the lawyer, and the assistant, no one had ever seen 'the big boss.' That's what she calls him, which sometimes makes me laugh. Who is this mysterious man who refuses to reveal his identity? I and Olivia were organizing some documents that had arrived this morning and had to be placed in the right order before the end of the day.

''Hey, Olivia, can I ask you a question?''

"Yeah, go on,'' she says as she takes some files and puts them in the important file spot.

''Do you know why the preview lawyer gave up on this position?'' To be honest, I have been dying to ask this question for quite some time. Why would anyone leave this job with such a good payment?

''Oh, Aiden didn't tell you." She looked me in the eyes with a shocked look.

''No.''

''He didn't give this job up, honey. He was found dead by his girlfriend in his apartment. They say that he killed himself, but I don't believe this. Some voices say that the night before he was found dead he had a huge argument with the boss and then he was found dead.''

''What?'' I say this in a scared tone. I could feel my heart beating faster.

''Don't worry, Elly. These are just some theories. Nothing will happen to you, don't be scared. "

''Yeah, it's easy for you to say. You're my assistant, not someone's lawyer, who doesn't even show his face.'' To be honest, I wasn't so scared. As long as I don't make him mad and do as he tells me and don't start arguments, everything will be OK. Anyway, if he makes a move on me, I will beat his soul out of his body. I started getting self-defense lessons again and learned how to use a gun just in case I needed to use one. I hope not.

''Don't laugh it's not funny,'' I say to Olivia, who has burst into laughter from what I said earlier.

"I'm sorry, but you have to see your face," she laughs.

"Do you want something to eat because I'm hungry and haven't eaten anything all day?" she asks, trying to change the subject, her hand on her stomach, trying to catch her breath from laughing.

''Yes, I am starving too.''

''Ok. let's grab something in the cafeteria and get back to work because if we don't we're going to spend the rest of the night here and I don't want that.''

"Okay, let's go, since I don't want that either," I say, getting up from our chairs. I stretched my body and felt my muscles gradually relax. We'd been sitting in these chairs for hours, and I was starting to feel my body go numb.

We rushed into the cafeteria and ordered two avocado toasts, ate them as quickly as we could, and returned to my office to finish and get home. As we were heading to my office, we passed by the boss's office, and I couldn't resist taking a glance. I reached the door slowly and grabbed the handle, gently pulling it down to go inside, but Olivia pulled me out and wouldn't allow me.

''Hey, why did you do that?'' I say to her with an annoyed tone.

''No one is allowed to go in there except if the big boss calls you. Plus it's locked, so you couldn't get in there and if you wanted to,'' she says, with a devilish smile on her face. I knew she was dying to see what was inside too. We went back to work, but I couldn't resist asking questions.

''So you told me that no one has ever seen the boss, but how does he get into his office without anyone seeing him.''

"They say there are other ways for him to get in there. But, to be honest, I'm not sure. " She shrugged her shoulders.

It's 7 p.m., I'm exhausted, and I don't believe I can be in this office any longer. Finally, Olivia and I organized all of the paperwork and left the building. Olivia's boyfriend was already waiting for her outside, so I kissed her goodbye and grabbed my phone to get a cab because Bella had borrowed my car today so she could see her parents. It is winter now, and I wanted her to be comfortable. She hasn't seen them in over a year and a half. I was dialing for a cab when I felt a hand on my shoulder, which immediately caught my attention and I turned around as fast as I could.

''Hey hey, it's just me Aiden. Relax.'' he raises his hand.

''Omg. You scared me.''

''I am sorry I didn't mean to scare you. I am so sorry. I just wanted to ask what are you doing waiting here in the middle of this cold?''

''I was calling for a cab so I could go home.'' I raised my phone.

''I can take you home. It's not a problem.''

''No thanks, I am just calling for a cab. You don't have to worry about me.''

''I am going to take you home. End of discussion. " He says now with a serious voice, fixing his suit, and I didn't want to make him mad. We waited for his car to come, and he opened the passenger seat for me, and I went into his car. He went to the driver's seat and closed the door.

''Sorry for talking to you that way, but it was the only way so you could let me take you home,'' he says with a softer voice now.

''That's OK, you don't need to apologize.''

''Now can you tell me where you live so you can go home?'' I told him where I lived and he started driving. All the way to my house was silent. No words were spoken. Thank God the traffic was light and we arrived quickly.

''Nice neighborhood. It looks quiet,'' he says, looking around from his car.

''Yeah, it is. Thank you for driving me home. I appreciate it.'' I say trying to be polite.

''No problem. This is the least I can do.'' Aiden says, and I could tell that he wants to say something else.

''What is it? I can tell you want to say something to me.'' I say, but immediately regret what I just said. His face is now seriously looking me dead in the eye.

''There is going to be a dinner tomorrow for the return of our boss from his business trip, and I would appreciate it if you..... Would you like to be my partner just for tomorrow? It's OK if you don't want to.'' I could see his cheeks flushing and his eyes darting to his hands as he fiddled with the lighter. Did he just really ask me to be his partner? Why me? All these questions are in my head, but I just ignore them, realizing that I was sitting there not saying a word and making the situation more awkward.

''Yes. It's not a problem.'' It will be nice to be Aiden's date. I mean, he seems like a nice guy. Plus, I get to see my boss.

''Ok. I'll pick you up here at 8,'' he says with his eyes focused on mine. I got out of the car, said goodbye, closed the door, and went into my apartment. I can't believe that Aiden just asked me to be his date for tomorrow.

I went up to my apartment and unlocked the door and got in. I looked around and everything was so quiet. It looks weird now that Bella isn't around anymore. I miss her bits of advice. I will miss the messes she made in the kitchen when she tried new recipes that she saw on YouTube. I got myself into my pajamas and lay in bed. I was so excited about tomorrow. Aiden asked me to be his partner. Of all the girls that are in the company, he asked me, and finally, I got to see our boss. There are words that the boss is ridiculously hot, and this only made me want to see him more.

''So Elly. What brought you here?'' Alberto tells me his gun never leaves my head. He pressed it harder as he pushed me into one of the club's rooms and locked the door. I could feel the fear rising in me, but that didn't help stop the words from coming out of my mouth. ''Well. Let me say I came here to kill you,'' I say as I take a seat in a chair that is near me. Keep yourself together, Elly. If you break, you're dead. ''And what makes you think you can do that?'' he says as he lets out a chuckle. I stare at him. There is no emotion on my face as I look at him and then at the gun. ''Oh come Elly. Do you really think you can take me down?'' he says in a sarcastic tone. ''What makes you think I can't?'' I feel a wave of confidence rushing through my body. ''You think that killing me is going to bring you peace,'' he says in his deep Italian accent ''You think that if you put a bullet in my head, it will make your Isabella come back,'' he says as he takes another chair and takes a s

"Elly, get your fat ass out. You've been in that bathroom for two hours.'' I huffed in annoyance and finally put some red lipstick on. I look at myself in the mirror, and to be honest, I am satisfied. I am getting better at this. ''Elly. I need to go to the bathroom. Pleeeeease.'' I could hear his pleading tone, which only put a smirk on my face.''And I am done,'' I say, getting out of the bathroom.''Oh. Waw," Giovanni said, and I could see the lost look in his eyes. "Well, I expected you to look like a clown but I guess you are getting pretty good at this.'' I smacked him on the shoulder, making sure to hurt him. He let out a chuckle, and I headed to my bedroom. I decided to wear my short, tight black dress. It was the only one I brought with me, so it'll do the work. I started undressing. I go to my luggage and pull out my dress. I was only wearing my black panties and bra and I could feel the cold air hit my body as goosebumps appeared all over my body. I finally found the dress

The rest of the day was spent eating. I can't remember when I last ate that much. Giovanni went out so he could finish some work and try to learn something more about Alberto, but we both knew that there wasn't much to learn here. We have to go to Sicily. Aiden said that Alberto and Domenic lived there but never crossed their territories. After their "big conflict," they never crossed paths again. No one knew the reason for their conflict or how it started, but one thing was clear: one wrong move, and the third global war would start. I was in the living room watching TV and decided to take a shower. I got to the bathroom and started filling the tub and putting some shampoo in there so it could create some bobbles. I took my clothes off and got in the tub, relaxing my muscles in the warm water. My mind couldn't think of anything else but Bella. I was laying in the tub with my eyes closed when I heard the bathroom door slam open and saw Giovanni standing in front of me. ''Hey. You k

I wake up to a knock on my door. I get out of bed and reach for my phone to see the time. It was 6 a.m. Who the hell is up at 6 a.m.? I reach for the door and unlock it, only to see Aiden coming inside the room with a furious face.''Good morning to you too,'' I say sarcastically.''You are leaving?'' He says looking me dead in the eye with a disappointed look.''Oh, so Aaron told you. Yes, I am leaving.'' I say trying to keep an emotionless face. It breaks my heart to leave Aiden behind, but I don't want to put anyone in danger because of me.''And where are you going?'' Aiden asks in an angry tone.''I don't know but far from here. Maybe I will go to a new town and start my new life there.''''Elly why? We can protect you here. You don't have to leave.''''Aiden I am sorry, but I have made my decision, whether you like it or not. I will not put any of you in danger because of me. ''''Elly your joking? Right? We're in the mafia. Everywhere we go, we're in danger.''"Yeah, but this o

I woke up with a headache. For the first time in a while, I slept comfortably. I don't remember falling asleep yesterday. I stayed in bed a little bit more. But after a couple of seconds, it hit me. I shut out of the bed and looked around. I spot Aaron lying in a chair next to my bed, looking at me with a worried look. ''What the hell are you doing here?'' I say with an angry tone. ''Are you ok?'' he says, getting up from the chair. ''Why do you care how am I?'' ''Elly please don't act like a child.'' He says getting closer to me. ''Do not come fucking near me,'' I say, raising my hand to keep him away from me. ''Elly don't be like this, please,'' he says, coming even closer. "Leave right now." ''I don't want you anywhere near me. "GET OUT,'' I yell, and he looks at me with a sad face before he turns his back and gets out of the room. He hurt me. He told me I was meaningless, and I believed him. I lay on the bed, wrapped myself in a blanket, and started crying silently. After ho

It's seven in the morning, and I haven't slept at all. Not that I didn't want to, but Aiden's snore was so fuckin' loud that I couldn't sleep. I got up from the chair, and my back hurts like hell. I got out of the office and went to the cafeteria. I took two coffees and two avocado toast and got back to my office. I got inside my office, closed the door behind me, and saw that Aiden was now awake. ''Good morning,'' I said, handing him the coffee and a toast. Then I got to my desk and set up my chair. ''How do you sleep on this couch? All my bones hurt." He says getting up from the couch and sitting in one of the chairs that are in front of my desk. I took a sip of my coffee, looking at him with an "I don't have another choice" look. We finished our coffee and toast, and I got back to the work I have to do today, but all I could think about was Aaron. He must be hungry. Ema has taken some days off because she is sick and no one else is here to replace her. '' Do you know what type
