CHAPTER 17

The Escape

When Elora opened the door, Mira came in pushing the food trolley and there was also a box on top. It bowed to me in greeting and he pushed it towards the foot of the bed.

"You can leave us now, Mira. I'll take care of your majesty." Mira nodded weakly as she left the room.

I looked up at a pendulum clock that sat near the dresser. Its time hand points to eleven and its minute hand to seven. 11:40.

I don't know but the speed of time. Elora left me first to eat making sure we would pass later without anyone else noticing. I didn’t have to think about that because I had already decided to run away.

After I ate I turned my gaze to the box on the trolley. I opened it, assuming only one footwear was inside. But no. It was the dress and sandals my grandmother bought and wore for me and the necklace that my mother gave me.

I immediately touch my neck. I just noticed now that I wasn’t wearing the necklace.
