The sunlight streaming through the floor-to-ceiling windows of the Sterling penthouse woke Aria at six in the morning. By seven, the master suite looked less like a bedroom and more like a private salon for a Paris fashion week show.

Julian had spared no expense. A team of elite stylists, makeup artists, and hair technicians bustled silently around Aria under the direction of Madame Laurent—the city’s most sought-after image consultant.

"Mon dieu," Madame Laurent gasped, stepping back as her team put the finishing touches on Aria’s hair. "To think someone kept this diamond hidden under plain linen and tight hair buns. Mon chéri, you are going to ruin lives today."

Aria stood up, stepping in front of the full-length gilded mirror.

The woman staring back at her was unrecognizable. The sensible, muted housewife was gone. In her place stood an ethereal, lethal vision. Her dark hair cascaded down her back in loose, glossy waves. Her eyes were framed by subtle, smoky shadow that emphasized their sharp, amber depth, while a rich burgundy lipstick painted her lips.

She wore a custom emerald-green silk gown designed by a top Italian house—backless, structured at the waist, with a daring side slit that exposed her sleek heels. On her finger, the heavy Sterling family emerald ring gleamed, perfectly complemented by a matching diamond-and-emerald choker framing her collarbone.

The double doors of the dressing suite clicked open.

Julian stepped inside, wearing a impeccably tailored double-breasted tuxedo. He stopped dead in his tracks. For three whole seconds, the ruthless "King of Finance," known for never losing his composure, simply stared. His silver-grey eyes darkened as they swept over her, a slow, predatory appreciation dawning on his face.

"Acceptable?" Aria asked, raising an eyebrow with a faint, playful smile.

Julian walked slowly toward her, his heavy leather shoes silent against the hardwood floor. He stopped mere inches away, his dark mahogany scent wrapping around her like a velvet cloak.

"Destructive," Julian corrected, his voice a low, gravelly rasp. He offered his arm, his fingers lightly brushing hers. "Ethan Vance won't even know what killed him."

The Grand Carlton Hotel was packed to capacity. Over two hundred journalists, corporate executives, and high-society elites filled the glittering ballroom for Vance Tech’s pre-IPO press gala.

At the center of the room stood Ethan Vance, looking sharp in a navy tuxedo, holding a glass of vintage champagne. Beside him was Chloe Dupont, wearing a flashy pink sequin gown, proudly showing off a diamond engagement ring that was half the size of Aria's emerald.

"Ethan, darling," Chloe purred, clinging to his arm as photographers flashed their cameras. "Look at the press turnout! Everyone knows Vance Tech is about to make you a billionaire."

"It's only natural," Ethan said smugly, taking a sip of champagne. "I built this company from nothing. Today, I set the foundation for our future, free of any dead weight."

Suddenly, the blinding flashbulbs at the front entrance stopped. A collective hush fell over the room, starting from the doors and spreading like wildfire through the crowd.

"Who is that...?" someone whispered nearby.

"Is that a European royal?" another voice gasped.

Ethan frowned, turning toward the entrance to see what could possibly steal the attention away from him.

The double mahogany doors had swung wide open. Stepping through the threshold was Julian Sterling—and on his arm, gliding with absolute elegance, was Aria.

Ethan’s champagne glass slipped from his fingers, shattering onto the marble floor with a sharp clack.

"Ethan! Watch my dress!" Chloe shrieked, but Ethan didn't hear her.

His eyes were glued to the woman beside Julian. The sleek, emerald silk gown, the millions in diamonds, the flawless posture, the radiant, breathtaking beauty—it was Aria. But it couldn't be. The woman he had thrown out in the rain twelve hours ago was plain, quiet, and ordinary.

This woman walked like she owned the entire room.

"Ethan..." Chloe hissed, spotting Aria’s emerald choker and turning pale. "Is that... is that your ex-wife? Who paid for those clothes? Are those real diamonds?"

Aria swept through the crowd, acknowledging the whispering elites with a serene, icy grace. She felt Julian’s firm, warm hand settle at the small of her back—a subtle, protective gesture that sent a ripple of heat down her spine.

"Look at him," Julian murmured near her ear, his breath warm against her neck. "He looks like he’s seen a ghost."

"Worse," Aria whispered back, her smile widening as she locked eyes with her ex-husband across the ballroom. "He's seeing what he lost."

Driven by a surge of pure humiliation and disbelief, Ethan shoved past two journalists and marched straight toward them, his face flushed red.

"Aria?!" Ethan demanded, stopping two paces away, his voice laced with venomous shock. "What the hell is this performance? Where did you rent those clothes? And what are you doing with Mr. Sterling?!"

Aria didn't flinch. She slowly turned to face him, her expression cool, detached, and brimming with effortless authority.

"Mr. Vance," Aria said, her voice smooth and perfectly audible to the surrounding reporters who were rapidly gathering around them. "Please lower your voice. This is a high-society event, not your living room."

"Don't play games with me!" Ethan hissed, stepping closer. "You took fifty thousand dollars and left my house last night! Did you spend my settlement money hiring a styling team just to embarrass me at my own gala?!"

Before Aria could reply, Julian stepped forward, his massive frame easily blocking Ethan from Aria. The air in the corridor instantly turned freezing cold as Julian looked down at Ethan as if he were nothing more than a stain on his shoe.

"Watch your tone, Vance," Julian said, his voice dropping into a dangerous, lethal register that made the surrounding crowd go completely silent.

Julian reached out, casually grabbing Ethan’s lapel and straightening it with deliberate, terrifying calm.

"You are speaking to the future Chairwoman of the Sterling Global Venture Fund," Julian announced, his voice carrying effortlessly across the room. "And my official fiancée."

The entire ballroom gasped. Camera flashes exploded like lightning strikes.

Ethan froze, his jaw dropping as his eyes darted from Julian's cold face down to Aria’s left hand—where the legendary Sterling family emerald ring glittered under the chandeliers.

"F... fiancée?!" Ethan stammered, his face turning pale as paper. "That's impossible! We just signed divorce papers last night! She's nothing! She's a nobody!"

"She was a nobody to an idiot who couldn't recognize gold," Julian whispered, leaning in so only Ethan could hear. "To me, she is the mastermind taking over your debt at ten o'clock tomorrow morning."

Julian offered his arm back to Aria. She placed her gloved hand on his forearm, giving Ethan one final, pitying glance as they glided past him toward the VIP lounge.

Behind them, Ethan stood paralyzed in front of fifty flashing cameras, completely ruined as the news headlines began updating live around the world.
