The Grand Ballroom of the Royal Conservatory was bathed in amber light for the annual Sterling Foundation Gala—the most exclusive event on the city’s social calendar.

Aria moved through the high-society crowd with practiced ease, wearing a floor-length midnight-blue velvet gown. On her wrist was a delicate diamond cuff lent to her by Evelyn Sterling—Julian’s grandmother and the formidable matriarch of the Sterling family dynasty.

Standing near the champagne fountain, Chloe Dupont watched Aria with pure hatred.

Since Vance Tech’s stock crash, Ethan had been unravelling, spending his nights drinking and obsessing over Aria. Chloe knew that if Ethan went down, her dream of entering high society would evaporate. She needed to destroy Aria’s credibility before Julian’s family officially welcomed her into the fold.

Chloe adjusted her lace glove, feeling the heavy shape of a vintage platinum-and-sapphire brooch hidden in her palm—an antique belonging to the Sterling Foundation’s private archive, currently on display in the adjacent gallery.

"Excuse me, darling," Chloe whispered to Ethan, who was standing numbly in a corner staring at his phone. "I'm going to fix our problems."

Twenty minutes later, the ballroom lights dimmed slightly as Evelyn Sterling took her seat at the head table. At seventy-five, Evelyn possessed sharp blue eyes that could cut through steel, framed by silver hair styled into an immaculate crown.

Suddenly, a sharp gasp echoed from the gallery doors.

Chloe stumbled into the main ballroom, looking pale and frantic as she flagged down two event security guards.

"Check the display case! It’s gone!" Chloe cried out, her voice loud enough to silence the string quartet. "The Star of Kashmir brooch is missing!"

Whispers erupted across the room. The Star of Kashmir was a priceless 19th-century sapphire brooch owned by the Sterling family.

Evelyn Sterling didn't flinch. She set her crystal glass down with a soft clink. "What is the meaning of this commotion?"

"Madame Sterling, I am so sorry," Chloe said, rushing toward the head table with practiced teary eyes. "I was in the gallery room just now and noticed the display case was unlocked. I saw someone standing right next to it just minutes ago... someone who was adjusting her dress."

Chloe turned, pointing a trembling, accusatory finger directly at Aria.

"I saw Aria Vance—or whatever she calls herself now—leaning over the display!" Chloe declared, raising her voice so the surrounding aristocrats could hear. "She’s desperate! Her ex-husband's company is failing, and she’s trying to steal from your foundation to fund her revenge!"

Ethan blinked from across the room, completely frozen as camera flashes began clicking from the press balcony.

Aria didn't react. She simply took a sip of her sparkling water, looking at Chloe with mild amusement. Julian stepped up beside Aria, his face darkening into an expression of pure, violent wrath.

"Watch your mouth, Miss Dupont," Julian’s voice growled, deep and terrifying. "One more word, and I will have security throw you into the street."

"No, Julian," a crisp, commanding voice cut through the air.

Evelyn Sterling stood up from her chair, her cane tapping against the marble floor. Tap. Tap.

The crowd parted instantly as the matriarch walked slowly toward Chloe. Evelyn’s expression was unreadable, her posture regal and unbending.

"You claim you saw my grandson’s fiancée steal from my gallery?" Evelyn asked, stopping two steps away from Chloe.

"I... I am certain of it, Madame Sterling!" Chloe insisted, taking a small velvet clutch out of her purse. "If you search her evening bag, I'm sure you'll find it! Or perhaps..." Chloe reached out, subtly attempting to brush against Aria’s velvet skirt, aiming to plant the brooch into Aria's deep side pocket.

Before Chloe’s hand could touch Aria's dress, a heavy silver-topped cane came down with a sharp THWACK directly onto Chloe’s wrist.

"Aah!" Chloe shrieked, clutching her hand and dropping her clutch onto the floor.

The velvet bag popped open upon impact. Out rolled a lipstick, a compact mirror, and—with a loud, heavy metallic thud—the Star of Kashmir sapphire brooch.

The ballroom went dead silent.

Chloe turned pale as paper, staring at the brooch lying on the floor right beside her own purse. "N-no! That's... I don't know how that got in my bag! She must have slipped it into my purse when I wasn't looking!"

"Miss Dupont," Evelyn Sterling said, her voice dropping into a tone of chilling, absolute authority. "Do you take me for anile fool?"

Evelyn tapped her cane against the floor twice. Immediately, the head of security for the Royal Conservatory stepped forward holding a tablet, displaying high-definition night-vision security footage.

"Our gallery cameras are equipped with multi-spectrum heat sensors," Evelyn announced to the entire ballroom, not even bothering to look at Chloe. "The footage clearly shows you using a bobby pin to pick the glass lock three minutes ago, wiping the case with your glove, and slipping my brooch directly into your own clutch."

A wave of laughter and disgusted gasps swept through the high-society crowd. Reporters rushed to record the live feed on the security tablet.

Chloe fell to her knees, her eyes wide with terror. "Madame Sterling... please! It was a mistake! I was just trying to protect your family from an outsider!"

"The only trash in this room is you," Evelyn said coolly. She turned her back on Chloe and looked at the chief of police standing near the entrance. "Officer, arrest this girl for grand larceny and trespassing. Ensure her bail is set at a level her bankrupt family cannot afford."

Security guards grabbed Chloe by her arms, dragging her away as she sobbed and screamed Ethan’s name. Ethan, terrified of being implicated, turned his back and ducked out the side exit, completely abandoning her.

Evelyn turned toward Aria. The coldness in the old woman’s eyes melted away, replaced by an approving, sharp glint. She reached out, gently taking Aria’s hand and patting the diamond cuff resting on her wrist.

"You handled yourself with quiet dignity, my dear," Evelyn said softly, her voice carrying through the quiet room. "A Sterling does not engage with street dogs. We simply let them trip over their own leashes."

Julian smiled faintly, wrapping a protective arm around Aria’s waist and pulling her close. "Told you my grandmother would like you."

"She’s magnificent," Aria murmured, looking at Evelyn with genuine respect.

"Now," Evelyn announced, raising her champagne flute to the room. "Let us continue the evening and toast to the true future of Sterling Global—my grandson, and his brilliant fiancée, Aria."

The ballroom erupted into applause, cementing Aria’s position at the top of the city's hierarchy while her enemies lay broken at her feet.

He had spent the last two hours drinking espresso, trying to scrub the image of Aria on Julian Sterling’s arm from his memory. It was just a stunt, Ethan told himself, tightening his silk tie. Julian Sterling is using her to rattle me. Once I launch Aegis 4.0 today, Vance Tech hits a $500 million valuation, and Sterling won't matter.Ethan took the stage to polite applause. He put on his practiced, charismatic CEO smile, resting his hands on the podium."Ladies and gentlemen," Ethan’s voice boomed over the surround-sound speakers. The sunlight streaming through the floor-to-ceiling windows of the Sterling penthouse woke Aria at six in the morning. By seven, the master suite looked less like a bedroom and more like a private salon for a Paris fashion week show.Julian had spared no expense. A team of elite stylists, makeup artists, and hair technicians bustled silently around Aria under the direction of Madame Laurent—the city’s most sought-after image consultant."Mon dieu," Madame Laurent gasped, stepping back as her team put the finishing touches on Aria’s hair. "To think someone kept this diamond hidden under plain linen and tight hair buns. Mon chéri, you are going to ruin lives today."Aria stood up, stepping in front of the full-length gilded mirror. The woman staring back at her was unrecognizable. The sensible, muted housewife was gone. In her place stood an ethereal, lethal vision. Her dark hair cascaded down her back in loose, glossy waves. Her eyes were framed by subtle, smoky shadow that emphasized

The interior of the Maybach was a sanctuary of dark leather, soft ambient lighting, and absolute silence, completely insulated from the torrential storm raging outside.Aria settled into the heated leather seat, setting her dripping suitcase near the floor mats. She wiped a stray drop of rain from her cheek, her hands steady, her pulse calm.Julian Sterling leaned back, watching her with keen, silver-grey eyes. He didn't offer a towel, nor did he fuss over her condition. He treated her not as a damsel rescued from a storm, but as an equal stepping onto a battlefield."You didn't shed a single tear," Julian remarked, his deep voice smooth as velvet. "Most women in your position would be calling a lawyer or crying on a friend's couch.""Most women didn't build a two-hundred-million-dollar tech company from their kitchen table while their husband took the credit," Aria replied coolly, meeting his gaze without flinching. "I gave Ethan three years to prove he loved me for who I was. He cho

The dining table was set for two.A heavy, dark-mahogany table—the center of a dining room Aria Vance had spent weeks decorating to match Ethan’s precise tastes. She smoothed the corner of the cream-colored linen tablecloth, adjusting a crystal wine glass by a fraction of an inch. A three-course meal sat warming in the kitchen, carefully prepared to celebrate three years of marriage.Three years.Aria caught her reflection in the dark bay window. Plain black dress, minimal makeup, hair pulled back into a sensible knot. Safe. Unobtrusive. The perfect, quiet housewife. The front door clicked open.Heavy, hurried footsteps echoed down the tiled hallway. Ethan Vance threw his tailored suit jacket onto the sofa, not bothering to glance toward the dining room. He didn't look tired; he looked restless, wired with an edgy, triumphant energy."You're late," Aria said softly, stepping out into the foyer. "Happy anniversary, Ethan."Ethan stopped, turning to look at her. His eyes swept over her
