'I wonder what it feels like to watch someone ruin themselves with your help,'
Those were my exact thoughts as she stood outside Adrian Laurent’s office with divorce papers clutched tightly in my hands.
The sound of Chloe Hart’s moans reached me long before I touched the door since my wolf hearing made it impossible not to hear every little thing behind those walls.
The rustle of clothing.
The low groan in Adrian’s throat.
The faint creak of his desk.
And Chloe’s voice dripping with satisfaction as she whispered in pleasure, “Adrian…oh, Adrian...!”
My fingers tightened painfully around the folder.
Five years. Five years and this still hurts.
I was so pathetic, and I should have walked away.
Any sane woman would have.
But I had loved Adrian long before he ever became my husband.
Back when we were still students at college. Back when Chloe hung on his arm like she already owned him. Back when I was just the quiet, shy girl who watched him from a distance and foolishly mistook admiration for fate.
Then right after graduation, my uncle arranged the marriage, and Adrian never forgave me for it.
Even though it had never been my choice either.
Another sound came from inside the office. Adrian's low groan of heightened pleasure accompanied by Chloe's cry made my ears crawl.
"Fuck, that was amazing," Adrian said in a low, amused voice.
"You say that all the time," Chloe chuckled softly.
“And yet you never stop.”
My stomach twisted violently, and I closed my eyes briefly. Maybe I should just turn around and keep whatever dignity I had left.
Then I heard Chloe say softly, “Does your wife know I’m here? She wasn't at her table when I arrived,”
“You don't have to worry about that. She stopped asking questions a long time ago,” He replied with a small laugh.
"Worried? About that little wolf? Come on!"
Something inside me went quiet after that. 'Little wolf' had always been their nickname for me whenever I wasn't listening. If only they knew that I was actually a wolf, and not so 'little' anymore.
I pushed the office door open, and the scent of the room hit my senses with full force.
Sex. Perfume. Him. Her.
Adrian sat behind his desk with Chloe straddling his lap, her red dress bunched around her thighs while his hand rested possessively against her waist
His tie hung loose around his neck with her lipstick smeared across his mouth. And neither of them looked even remotely ashamed.
Chloe noticed me first, and her eyes gleamed with the familiar, mocking interest. “Oh,” she breathed with fake surprise. “Selene.”
Adrian barely glanced up.
One hand still lazily stroked Chloe’s thigh while the other scrolled through something on his laptop.
“What is it?” He asked flatly, like I was interrupting a meeting instead of walking in on my husband with another woman.
Again.
My wolf snarled violently beneath my skin.
Humiliation had slowly become my closest companion whenever I was anywhere close to them, but I forced my expression to remain calm.
Because reacting only ever made me look crazier to them.
And they enjoyed that.
Especially Chloe.
She suddenly shifted comfortably against Adrian before offering me a soft smile, “You should’ve knocked,” She said sweetly as her waist began to grind against him once again.
I forced my expression to remain neutral.
Adrian smirked faintly, his eyes slowly becoming hazy again, “She practically lives in this office anyway.”
Another jab.
Secretary.
That was the title everyone believed I held in Laurent Enterprises.
Not his wife, not his partner, and certainly not the silent investor who had unknowingly kept this company alive for years through anonymous Lunaris-backed support.
Just Adrian’s painfully devoted secretary.
I stepped further into the room anyway, “I need your signature.”
Adrian sighed softly, as if even speaking to me exhausted him, “Now?”
Chloe pressed a kiss lazily against his jaw as her movements became a little faster than before, “Maybe she misses you.” She whispered.
His fingers paused typing, and his grip on her waist tightened. I could literally hear the fluid sound of his member sliding in and out of her, while I stood there.
He laughed at what she said, then proceeded to kiss her on the lips.
I knew they were gonna start making out any time from now, and had to do what I came here for before they made my soul shatter any further than it already had.
“There’s an important meeting tomorrow,” I said calmly, placing the folder on the desk. “These documents need approval before then.”
That caught his attention briefly, “The Lunaris meeting?”
“Yes.”
At the mention of Lunaris Biotech, Chloe straightened slightly and glanced over at the folder.
Even she knew the name.
Everyone did.
Lunaris had exploded into the business world seven years ago and had since become almost untouchable. It was known for its mysterious ownership, advanced biotech research, and Insane global influence.
Every major corporation wanted a partnership with them now.
Including Adrian.
He leaned back slightly with Chloe still seated on his lap, “If tomorrow goes well. Laurent Enterprises won’t need anybody’s help anymore.” He said smugly.
If only he knew.
My fingers curled slowly beside me.
Chloe smiled proudly at him like he’d already conquered the world, “You’ll secure the partnership. You always get what you want.” She said confidently.
Adrian then reached for the documents impatiently and asked, “Where do I sign?”
“You should read them first,” I said.
His eyes flickered toward me lazily and he frowned, “Why? You already handled it.”
Of course I did. Just as he's always left me to handle everything that concerned this company. It would look as if he trusted me that much, but it wasn't real.
Adrian trusted me with paperwork because he never believed I was capable of anything dangerous.
To him, I was harmless, and quite predictable.
Chloe took the pen from the desk and placed it between Adrian’s fingers playfully, “Sign them so your poor wife can stop glaring at me.”
I almost did glare at her at that moment, but I held back. I just needed to survive this moment. Because it would be the last.
Adrian didn’t even look down before signing the final page, and I almost burst into tears at that second.
One careless signature, and that was all it took to end five years of marriage.
We were over!
He slid the papers back toward me dismissively before his attention returned immediately to Chloe, and they resumed what they were doing.
Like I no longer existed.
Chloe wrapped her arms around his neck slowly, still grinding and shoving his dick into her pussy — probably to show me who he actually belonged to — not that I never knew that before.
“You know,” She said softly, running her lips along his ears, “I really admire you, Selene.”
I stayed silent.
“I could never love someone who treated me this coldly. You’re stronger than me.” The sweetness in her voice made her jaw work, and Adrian chuckled under his breath.
“She likes playing martyr.” He breathed, then captured her lips with his.
That one landed deep, because maybe he was right.
Maybe I had spent five years sacrificing pieces of myself hoping one day Adrian would finally look at me the way he looked at Chloe.
What a stupid thing to want.
“You just signed your freedom, Adrian,” I murmured as I picked up the folder and turned around to leave.
“Hm?” He barely heard me.
I didn't answer. I headed for the door.
They were getting more aggressive with each other now, and Chloe was beginning to moan his name loudly. They didn't give a fuck about me.
Never.
And I thought ending this would destroy me, but I felt tired instead.
So unbelievably tired.
I could smell Chloe's satisfaction in the air as always, thanks to my wolf. She was happy to know I was walking away, happy that I was suffering like this, because she knew very much that I loved Adrian with everything, but Adrian had never loved me for even a second.
Chloe was victorious. It must feel good to never doubt that Adrian would always pick her.
And maybe that was the cruellest part.
She was right.
Behind me, Adrian suddenly spoke again, “Oh, Selene.”
I paused with my hand turning the doorknob.
“Make sure to clear my schedule tomorrow,” He said absentmindedly, “I’ll probably be busy.”
Busy with Chloe.
Like always.
I smiled faintly to myself, “You already are.”
Then I twisted the door open and walked out of the office without looking back.
Neither of them stopped me.
Selene's breath caught.Their father! She knew it!The Alpha who had taken three wild boys out of the woods and turned them into the men they were today. The Alpha who had trained them.Raised them.Taught them how to survive. She looked back at the markings and smiled, "Carter told me all about it. This man who...found you three, I'm so glad he loved you the way you all deserved,""Where is he now?" She asked again, her gaze moving between them. There was another shift in the pressure in the room, and she felt her question might have hit somewhere unintentionally. She slowly approached the three of them, "I...I'm sorry, I didn't—""No, it's fine," Ajax smiled first again."He's gone," Elliot blurted, shrugging, "He...died,"Selene's heart twisted. She didn't know why.She didn't know this man, and she had never met him.Yet something about that answer felt like a door had just slammed somewhere inside her."Oh." She looked away, tears prickling the back of her eyes, "I'm really sorry
Selene stared at the house from the moment her car rolled through the gates, and she almost forgot how to breathe. It was definitely not what she had expected at all. She'd imagined some enormous, cold mansion belonging to three billionaires — something extravagant and impersonal, designed more to display wealth than to actually be lived in.This was different. The house sat at the heart of an enormous stretch of land, surrounded by towering trees that formed a natural wall around the property. The driveway curved through them before opening into a wide courtyard, where the house stood like it had been there long before the world around it had grown. It was massive. But not unnecessarily so.Dark stone covered most of the exterior, softened by enormous windows that stretched across the upper floors, allowing warm, golden light to spill through them.Thick wooden beams crossed portions of the walls, giving the place an almost rustic quality despite its obvious grandeur. It was beautifu
Selene arrived home that evening, exhaustion about to take her under. She had just unlocked the house and walked in when she saw the Triplets moving around the house, with boxes stacked upon each other filling almost half of the living room. The chairs and appliances were gone.Hell, the living room looked as empty as it was the first time she'd moved in here."What's going on here?" She asked, her heels clicking against the marble floors.Ajax appeared first, pulling her flush into his arms and kissing her deeply on the lips. She melted into him, wrapping her around his neck as she met his kiss with her own ferocity, only pulling back when they were both breathless, "Welcome back, Gorgeous,"She looked into his eyes, hoping to find that warmth and love he always showered her with. Instead, all she could see was the rot in them spreading. All she could see was the pain that was hidden somewhere in there, that was getting more painful with each day passing by.They had at most eight da
Selene held the light at an angle across the remaining page. When nothing happened, she tilted it.Still nothing. She waited a few seconds, and then it happened.A faint indentation started to appear, and both women gasped. She didn't move the phone till the words were clear enough, then she shifted the light again to reveal more words."No way!" Elara breathed. The words were impressed into the paper from whatever had been written on the missing page."Can you read it?"Selene leaned closer, narrowing her eyes to see the tiny words. Then she caught one.'Darius.'Her heart slammed against her ribs, and she moved her gaze to try and read the other words,'...couldn't make it look like the Blackwells...'Selene's hand began shaking, and she shifted the light again.'...already injured...'Another movement.'...second scent...'Another.'...had to finish it myself.'Selene had stopped breathing completely. She just sat there, like she was completely frozen to the ground. She wasn't even
"Selene Vale," Jayden repeated slowly, as though testing the name on his tongue, "You know, for someone who's been driving half the corporate world insane for years, you're surprisingly normal."A faint smile touched her lips, "Is that your way of saying you're disappointed?""No," Elliot replied b
Benjamin had helped her bring up her luggage into her penthouse even though she said she could do it on her own. The kind man had simply insisted. Once everything was in place, Benjamin stood by the door while Selene collapsed on the couch, letting out a huge sigh."Would you like me to get anythi
Selene felt like chewing his head off and spitting it out at that moment."This was exactly how we met her when we also arrived," Vivian quickly barked, "Can you believe this woman? After everything you've done for her, and this is how she repays you?!"Chloe slowly let go of Adrian's arm, her eyes
Everyone in this house remembered the day Chloe Hart returned from abroad about her bad divorce. Yeah, Adrian's first love got married at her last years in college, and came back running into his widespread arms two years later when the company started to stand strong again. That very day she retu
