Paisley gasped upon seeing Karter's eyes wide open and staring at her when she got to his crib. He held his stuffed bunny's ears tight in his tiny hands and gave her a two-teeth smile. 

"You're awake!" She chirped and immediately took him in her arms. 

She paused and felt his temperature with her palm.

"And you're not burning up!" She grinned even wider. 

Karter's beady eyes glistened when he watched the familiar woman in awe. In his little mind, he had created a folder to house the young woman's bright smile, her warm eyes and body that captured every beat of his small heart. 

"Karter," Paisley whined, "I was so scared you'd-" 

"Mommy!" Karter called out with his usual two-teeth smile and watched Paisley's eyes widen.
