Chapter 4: The Dragon King?

The Fairy’s Dragon Guardian

Chapter 4: The Dragon King?

Crystal’s POV

“Queen Fae. Queen Fae? Crystal!”

“Oh? Ah. Ahem.”

I hurriedly pulled my gaze away from that man and cleared my throat.

“I was calling your name many times, but you seemed to be not listening to me. What were you thinking?”

“I… I was thinking about what this meeting is about.”

I hurriedly told Lumara that and hastily sat down on my chair. For some reason, I feel hot all over my body, adding that same suffocating feeling from ten years ago.

‘What is this feeling?’

I placed my hands on my thigh and pinched myself.

Come on, Crystal. That’s years ago.

I kept telling that myself, but this feeling of something strangling me on my neck won’t go away as soon as he made his appearance inside the room.

The Chief walked toward his seat, and so the man behind him. The Chief was beside that man, and that man was sitting beside me.

I heard the Chief’s cool voice echoed inside the meeting room, “Now that everyone’s here, let’s start the meeting.”

When I felt his presence beside me, I couldn’t focus on the meeting at all. Everything went inside my right ear and goes out my left ear – nothing comes inside my head. It’s like everything was silent and only his presence could be felt.

I bit my lower lip and forced myself to focus on the meeting. At that moment, I heard his low voice rang on my left ear.

“Don’t bite your lips. It will bleed.”

All the hairs on my body rose and I felt the goosebumps crawled on every part of my body. I quickly let go of my lower lip and stared at the talking person across me.

No one noticed his movements nor heard his words. It was as if his words were only meant to be heard by me. But why?

We already divorced ten years ago, and we should be acting like new acquaintances now. Why is he doing this? Does he expect me to treat him like someone I know, or someone who used to be my husband?

“That’s settled. The Dragon King would lead the investigations about the happening slaughter across the cities. Anyone who wants to voice their opinions?”

Ah, they were already talking about that? My mind’s been wandering that I couldn’t concentrate at all.

I took a deep breath and calmed myself down, before raising my head and asking for the Chief’s attention.

“What do you think, Queen Fae?”

“Recently, one of my officials went missing after she was sent to look for a local herb for our clan. We thought that it simply took her a long time to travel and search for it, but we haven’t heard from her for a few weeks already.”

The Chief nodded his head and quickly came into a decision.

“How about this? Since the Dragon King will lead the investigation about the pending invasion of the dark forces, why don’t you team up with him? The more people, the more we could easily eliminate the enemies.”

“…”

I secretly glanced at the man beside me, Oliver Chent. His back was straight but he had a relaxed countenance.

‘So what if we were once husband and wife? No one knows about it after all.’

I smiled at the Chief and nodded my head.

“No problem with me, Chief. The Dragon King is so powerful, and that would help greatly in the investigation.”

“Excellent! Talk with each other to plan about it. But don’t worry, other clans will also be joining you in the team. Is that alright everyone?”

The people inside the room chorused, “Yes, Chief!”

With that, the meeting was adjourned in a pleasant manner. Was it? At the very least, I managed to collect myself and report about my missing official.

Forming a team with my ex-husband? I only realized now how stupid I must have looked earlier, acting like I learned that he was the hidden Dragon King all this time.

“So, you’re Queen Fae.”

Oliver approached me when Lumara and I were on our way out of the room. I turned to him and politely smiled.

“Nice to meet you, Dragon King. This is the first time we met, and it is such an honor.”

When he heard that, Oliver raised his eyebrows and faintly smiled.

“Well… same. Pleasant working with you, Queen Fae.”

He stretched his hand to me, asking for a handshake. But before I could do that, Lumara enthusiastically grabbed his hand.

“Dragon King, it’s our pleasure to have you. We are a team, so please take care of us in the future!”

“Hmm.”

Oliver lightly nodded his head and like always, put his hands inside the pocket of his pants when he didn’t want to talk anymore. Why do I even remember this trivial thing about him? It’s not like I observed all his habits when we were still married.

“Dragon King, now that we’re a team, let me introduce myself. I am –”

“The Phoenix Queen, Lumara Ignia.”

“Indeed, your intelligence unit must be of high quality. I really admire you.”

“Well, thanks.”

I stared at the two of them. One is the Phoenix Queen, and the other is the Dragon King. Don’t they make a great couple? They suit each other, just like hot water and cold ice.
