Chapter 2

Alexis POV

*7 years later

"You're leaving again, aren't you?" I said chuckling. Dad gasped and covered his mouth dramatically.

"How did you know?" I looked at him with the 'of course I know' look.

"You came into the kitchen pacing around and placed a 20-dollar bill near my cereal bowl, I'm pretty sure no normal dad does that either but thank you very much," I said swinging the 20-dollar bill and batting my lashes.

He sighed, ran both his hands across his face, and started to scratch his stubble. A habit I always recognize whenever he's stressed out.

"Where is work sending you this time?

"Rome" He did a heavy sigh once again

"Well, you know what to do when you get there," I said jumping off the stool and placing the now-empty bowl in the sink.

"Get me tons of snacks," we said in unison.

"Got you," he said chuckling.

"Are you feeling any better? You sure you don't want to skip today?" He said putting two fingers on my forehead.

"I'm okay dad"

"OK good"

"Good morning my favorite peoplessss" I rolled my eyes at the boy who sported jet-black hair and hazel eyes who just walked into the kitchen, well in more sense, let me describe him as my twin, Alex, Alex Campbell. And that man belly bumping him is my dad, Jason Campbell the single dad and man of the house.

"I see that you're feeling better too" I hear dad say to him and doing the same thing he did to me not too long ago.

"You, I'm envious of," I said walking past them.

"What did I do!" He yelled

"Yeah, I'm feeling better" He quickly replied to dad.

"You're too energetic to my liking," I yelled back as I started walking up the stairs to my room

"Jealous much" He yelled back, and I shook my head smiling.

I locked the door to my bathroom and started to run a hot shower. Waiting for it to get hot I went towards the mirror; a habit I realized I do every morning. I just go up to it and stare, stare at the green emeralds I inherited from my mother. I don't remember her at all, according to my dad she died in a car accident, and the only thing I have left from her is a bracelet dad retrieved from the scene. A bracelet that was added to the collection on my wrist. They hid my horrible scars from that accident. I tore my eyes from them, scars that scream to see the light of day.

It's funny how I know I have them but can't remember exactly how I got them. Alex and dad told me that a dog attacked me one night when I was on the lawn playing dolls. I did try to run away from it, but it caught up to me, leaped on top, and clawed me while my dad tried to pull it off. I lost so much blood that I fainted and hit my head, the only thing I remember from that night was there was this huge dog leaping toward me then it went dark, and I woke up two days later in the hospital, a hospital owned by my dad's friend, Eric Lawton.

Who then diagnosed me with post-traumatic amnesia. Luckily It wasn't severe, I could remember dad and Alex, just couldn't remember significant events, but slowly time passed, and I recollected them, disappointed that I still can't remember that night though just bits and pieces.

I laughed to myself remembering my 10-year-old self having a crush on 23-year-old Mr. Eric. I stepped into the shower finally and in ten minutes I was done.

With a towel wrapped around me, I went into my mini-size closet and tried to calculate the problem before me. Silently crying I rummage amongst the clothes.

"Why am I so bad at fashion!" I whined. About five minutes later frustration got the best of me and I literally just took up whatever my hands touched next.

I placed the black Jordan hoodie over my head and sported black baggy sweatpants and my Air Jordan 3, yes, it's simple. Simple mind, simple fashion, for a simple girl. I put my hair in a ponytail and placed my 15% phone and my fully charged power bank in my bag and head out of my room.

"Alex," I yelled "Are you ready?"

"Why are you shouting when I'm right behind you?" He rhetorically asked while shoving his face with ice cream. I rolled my eyes at him and grabbed the cup from his hand and started eating what was left.

"Thanks"

"Hey!" He whined

"Sometimes you sound like a real ass dog when you whine you know that?" I say looking at him with fake disgust.

"Every day, you tell me every day," he said rolling his eyes

"Come on let's go, we'll be late for school" He huffed and walk past me mumbling under his breath that he saw no sense in going to school and I couldn't agree more.

"Dad left couple of minutes before you came down"

"Yeah, I saw the note and the money," I said grinning to myself.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
"You're two minutes late Draco" Brit, my best friend since elementary school said to me hitting me in the process. She has light brown hair with auburn highlights, dark brown eyes, and was rocking a red, black and grey striped crop top, black ripped jeans that wrapped around her hips perfectly showing her shape loud and clear, and a black and white All-Star Converse. Beauty surrounds her and settles in the air.
"I see you start fake tanning again"
"Hihi I just felt like it today" She replied linking our arms together
"Where's Alex?"
I looked at her lazily as always. This was pretty much the norm. I come to school and she asks about my stupid brother before we could have any normal conversation.
"I don't know Brit, I might be his twin, but we don't have telepathic power, and I'm sure we wouldn't even be connected like that in any way even if that was a thing.
"Jeez I was just curious," she said scrunching her nose as if she smelt something.
The bell rang throughout the school indicating we had homeroom.
"Why do you ALWAYS ask when you see him in EVERYONE of our classes," I said rolling my eyes as we continued to walk to class.
She shrugged. "I just like to annoy you."
Liar!
"If you say sooo" I replied singing.
"Wha-" She held up her hands in defense and quickly walked off, red evidentially taking over her face.
"Just say it Brit, your subconsciously in love with him since what, third grade?"
"I'm not in love with Alex, I'm just, curious about, where he is in the mornings." I shook my head smiling and cooing at how she was trying so hard to find the right words.
"Don't forget about at lunch too"
"We're gonna be late for homeroom." I laughed but suddenly calmed down when she speeded off.
"Hey wait up"
We entered the classroom and immediately shuffled to the back seat near the window.
"Hey Brit"
"What a lovely brother I have, he loves to acknowledge my existence," I said attempting a sardonic smile and lacing my words with sarcasm.
"Dude, I see your stupid face this-" He folded his lips and closed his eyes taking a seat beside me. I laughed out loudly gaining some weird looks from the extras in the class, but I didn't mind them.
"I don't think any of those lines are for any of you, seeing that you guys are, you know," Brit says trying her best to stifle her laughed but failing miserably.
Alex shift uncomfortably in his seat clearing his throat in the process, he immediately turned his head to his game of subway surf.
"Take your seats everyone," Our homeroom teacher said as she waltzes into the classroom.
"As if we weren't already seated" I hear someone say from across the room followed by snickers.
I would've spitefully joined but seeing that this teacher seems to hate me for some reason it's smart not to fire her up so early in the morning.
"Quiet down!" She said sighing and leaning against the edge of the teacher's desk with her usual clipboard in hand.
"Allison?"
"Here"
After a few minutes of attendance, she finally finished and left without a word and our biology walked in while some students carried on to their different classes.
"Good morning my life lings" I heard Alex groan beside me
"Isn't Lings some type of fish or something?" Brit asked.
I shrugged "Does he really not find saying such things embarrassing?" I asked cringing.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

 "Finally, it's lunch!" I said groaning and rubbing my stomach.

"You're always hungry, thought by now you would've started carrying something to munch on between classes."

"And as my best friend that is your duty to do," I said giving my best cheeky smile "You're the bank account in this friendship, I might as well use you to the extent"

She scoffed, "I'm pretty sure you can pull your own weight"

I giggled "Whatever let's go eat"

Finally, we entered the cafeteria of clichés you typically see in movies. You can see the several cliques at each table. When you enter and you look to the left in the far corner you have the nerds and there is no discrimination towards them. People behave as though intelligence is a disease.

Gamers can be seen off to my right in the far corner, their eyes literally — well, not literally, but you get the idea — plastered to their screens, and we all know whose table is in the center of this whole cafeteria. Yup, the popular, and as if they heard me chewing on their name the queen bee and her worker maids buzzed over clicking their stinger heels along the way over to the both of us.

"Beatrice Willows" Brit spat in disgust.

"Brittany Wilson," Beatrice replied with just as much venom laced in her words. "And Alexis Campbell, I really thought you died," she said crossing her arms and turning her sneering eyes to me.

"Just because I was ill and missed school yesterday, doesn't mean I passed away. The fact that you care, though, is encouraging. I added, completing it with a smile that was obviously false.

She rolled her eyes in disdain as she scrunched up her nose. I don't give a damn about you Campbell, more likely Alex. A smile then broke out on her face at that moment. I crossed my arms and let out a visibly heavy sigh. "I mean you guys are twins and all but you both being sick is just weird."

"O-kay, why come to me, Alex clearly has a voice box for himself, no?" She scoffed and turned to leave, letting her maids know by her backward glance.

"Let's go."

"Is she madly in love with me or what? Does she really have to come to me every day?" I rhetorically asked as I advanced through the queue.

"She clearly is, I mean who wouldn't," she said shrugging

"Stop," I said blushing she shook her head smiling.

"But then again, she has to come to you, she's in love with someone who ignores her like a plague." We chuckled at the thought of Alex ducking behind lockers and into hallways just to avoid her. If dumb blond was a person, it would definitely be her.

The only thing not cliché about this place is the cafeteria food on Fridays, me, Brit, and I would say Alex. Though Alex is nowhere to be seen as usual at lunch and he refuses to tell me.

However, the cuisine here tastes like what you would receive at a two-star restaurant. It may look appetizing, but you shouldn't always judge a book by its cover. The cafeteria is constantly crowded even if the food isn't great, especially on Fridays when it's the fast-food serving day. On the plus side, we don't have to hustle to obtain the greatest serving or worry that we won't get our fair portion. It is always sufficient.

"Hello Ms. Campbell" My face lit up once more only to see my favorite cook at the school and the only adult I feel comfortable around in this entire hell hole.

"Ms. Daley!" I gave her a cheeky smile "Or should I say Mrs. Jones" Her eyes sparked as she looked at the ring on her finger.

"How was the wedding?" I asked.

"It was wonderful, so sad you couldn't make it," she said with a sad smile

I sighed and gave her my best 'happy for you' face which I truly was for her. "Glad to hear that. I wanted to but you know when dad makes up his mind for family days out, we have to apply to it" she chuckled nodding.

"O my God we're keeping up the line, what would you like?"

"Two cheeseburgers and two cokes please," I said to the serving lady on the other side of the glass.

"Just one coke please" I looked at Brit quizzically.

"Ok that'd be 5.59"

I brushed Brit's comment aside but only until I gave Mrs. Jones the money.

"Here you go, enjoy your meal"

"Thanks," I said and took the food moving towards the center of the cafeteria.

"Sure, you don't want a coke with this?"

"Nah, I'm cutting down on sodas" I gave her a knowing look.

"This another one of those monthly goals of yours you can't seem to pass two days without breaking them?"

"I'm trying okay" she replied pouting.

I shook my head smiling finally reaching towards the table which I guess is now marked as ours. Seeing that all this time no one has ever tried to sit at our table. Seeing as everyone has an infamous name for the clique, I always wondered what other people called us, 'The Extras'?

"Alex hasn't told you where he adventures off to at lunch as yet?" she asked taking a bite of her burger.

"Nope, I'm curious too but too lazy to even find out, plus it really isn't really my business what he does with his life. I really wouldn't want Alex prying in my life so—" I replied shrugging.

"You don't think he has a secret girl—" I cut her off before she could finish her sentence.

"Alex and the word secret don't mix, and you know that," I say laughing "I would've smelt that secret girlfriend of his already so don't worry, he's clean"

"I- I'm not worrying, pfft" I cleared my throat raising a brow at her.

To burn off the remaining time before my next lesson, I quickly finished my burger and Coke and then hopped on TikTok.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
"Finally, school is over" I praised.
"Let's stop by Starbucks before we go to your house" Brit suggested
"You know you're mostly over at our house than your own"
"I didn't know that bothered you, Alex"
"It doesn't, I'm just putting it out there" he replied with his hands in defensive mode.
"You're making it sound like I'm always there, which is n- might be true, but not always." He gave her a knowing look.
"And what if she's always there, now shut your trap, and let's go get some Starbucks."
"I didn't say I hate her there—Why am I getting bullied here," he said mumbling under his breath.
