Chapter 5

Sassy couldn't sleep at night, all she could think about was her escape plan. Where would she even go?

"You think too much. It's quite noisy in here." Sage said.

"I'm confused, Sage. Where do we go?" She asked.

"Anywhere. The Moon Goddess would guide you." Sage said.

"The Moon Goddess is never there when I need her. Why do bad things keep happening to me if she's watching? Why can't she stop them from occurring? Why always me? Just when I thought my life was going to be smooth." Sassy lamented.

"I told you, do not be too excited," Sage said.

"What do we do now?"

"Good thing you asked. Kill the thought of you escaping. It's a harsh world out there. You won't survive a day." Sage said.

"But I can't stay here either. You heard what the Matron said." Sassy said.

"You will, but not for long. All you need to do now is get a job. There are a lot of places to try. You might also find our mate in one of those places."

At the thought of finding her mate, Sassy's eyes lit up.

"Okay, that's a great idea. I wonder why it never occurred to me before. But who would want to employ me? I have just a high school certificate." Sassy complained again.

"Well, that might be a problem. But, you wouldn't know until you try." Sage said.

"Well, I'll have to try all the mini supermarkets, gas stations, ice cream stores, schools.. no, not schools, electric stores and everything. That's going to be so hard!" Sassy complained.

"Well, go to sleep now. You're gonna have a long day tomorrow." Sage said, and Sassy felt a soothing feeling and in no time, she was asleep.

*********

Alpha Murphy lay in his bed too, he was discussing with his wolf. His wolf, Jack, was stubborn and never listened to whatever he was told.

"I want our mate!" Jack said.

"You've been screaming for so long, my head is starting to hurt. I told you I haven't found her yet." Alpha Murphy said.

"And I also said you have. You already found her." Jack argued.

"Then, where is she?"

"I don't know who she is, or where she is, but I do know you already met her. You probably need to go out more." Jack said.

"Shut up Jack. I'm the Alpha and I go out every fucking day. Do not confuse any of the girls I once had sex with to be my mate, because they aren't." Murphy declared.

"Ahhhhhh!" Jack screamed again.

"Shut up!"

"Go find our mate or I won't!" Jack responded.

"I want to find her too, so quit yelling! I'll find her eventually."

"I don't know how long I can wait," Jack said.

"Shut up," Murphy orderd.

"No," Jack responded.

************

Sassy woke up the next morning to begin her quest for a job.

She walked to three different shops and was rejected.

She walked to another toy shop at the end of the Street to check for vacancies.

"Hi, ma'am." She said to the receptionist she met.

"Yes?" The receptionist said, sizing her up.

"Can I see your manager please?" Sassy requested politely.

"And why would you want to meet my manager?" The receptionist asked, frowning.

"I just want to know if there is a vacancy. You know, where I could work. I need a place to work. I have no house and no place to stay and no money." Sassy said and chuckled softly.

"No vacancy. Especially not for you. Leave now." The receptionist said.

"I want to hear that from the manager, please let me talk to him." Sassy pleaded and the receptionist ignored her.

"Please." She said again.

On seeing that the receptionist wasn't ready to give her audience, she reluctantly left.

"Okay. Fourth rejection for today. How fantastic!" Sassy said.

"Try again. You're never allowed to quit." Sage said.

Sassy sighed.

She walked to a roadside bench to sit.

She had barely sat down when she noticed a sign on the new coffee shop.

"WAITRESS NEEDED." It read.

Sassy's eyes lit. She immediately searched her pocket and saw a few pennies inside.

She walked to the coffee shop and ordered a cup of coffee.

She watched carefully and saw that there was only one waitress, and the workload on her seemed too much.

Sassy smirked as she watched the waitress try to attend to everyone's order at the same time.

"Here, let me help." She offered.

The waitress smiled at Sassy's request.

Sassy didn't hesitate as she immediately got to work.

She saw how things were done and in no time, all the customers were attended to.

"Thank you." The waitress said.

"You're welcome," Sassy responded.

"Would you like to work here? My older sister owns this coffee shop. It's a new place." The waitress offered.

"For real? When can I begin? I think I love it." Sassy said.

"Well, you already started, so....it's a done deal, yeah?" The waitress said and Sassy nodded.

"We'll discuss your pay as soon as my sister is back. Welcome to Joy's Delight Coffee shop." The waitress said and Sassy grinned.

Just when she was about to give up, she had gotten a job on a platter of gold.

She smiled inwardly. Since the matron wants her to leave, she would.

And she would do that bravely.

The thought of earning her own money made her heart feel warm.

But, was it always that easy?

***********

Alpha Murphy soon received news that Sassy had been told to leave the orphanage. He also received news that she had tried looking for a place to work in almost every shop and had been rejected. She was just lucky enough to get a job at a coffee shop.

Alpha Murphy laughed to himself.

He hadn't seen Sassy in years.

And they still had some scores to settle.

It was time to visit an old friend...
