I pulled my jacket closer around myself as I stepped out of the plane. Seattle was colder than I expected Not freezing, but definitely colder than what I was used to.

I looked around the airport as I followed Dexter down the stairs.

The driver was already waiting near the aircraft with two other men who appeared to be bodyguards.

This was actually the first time I had seen bodyguards around Dexter since I started working with him. I wondered what he needed so much protection for.

From who?

I pulled my jacket closer around myself as I stepped out of the plane. Seattle was colder than I expected Not freezing, but definitely colder than what I was used to.I looked around the airport as I followed Dexter down the stairs. The driver was already waiting near the aircraft with two other men who appeared to be bodyguards. This was actually the first time I had seen bodyguards around Dexter since I started working with him. I wondered what he needed so much protection for. From who?I shook my head. I was just being dramatic. His having bodyguards wasn’t a big deal.It was normal for his kind. I was actually surprised when he didn’t have any in Las Vegas.“Welcome, sir,” the driver greeted as Dexter approached.Dexter nodded.“Everything is ready?”“Yes, sir.” The driver turned to me.“Miss Roberts, your luggage will be taken to the hotel.”“Thank you.”I looked back at my suitcase. For a second, I wondered if I should carry it myself But one of the airport staff had already pic

For the next hour, neither of us spoke unless it was about work.We were both too busy, and honestly, I was beginning to understand why he preferred having me sit opposite him.It really was easier. Instead of getting up every few minutes, I only had to slide a document across the small table between us.“Mia.”“Yes, sir?”“The client profile.”I handed it to him before he even finished asking. He looked up briefly.“You were already holding it.”“I figured you’d ask for it next.”The corner of his mouth twitched.“You learn quickly.”“Thank you, sir.”I smiled.Wait…Am I smiling?I shouldn’t be. It didn’t matter if Dexter complimented me. That shouldn’t make me smile.I quickly wiped the smile off my face. I stared at Dexter for a brief second. He didn’t even notice I had been smiling, which was better for me.But for some weird reason…I couldn’t get my eyes off him.I didn’t know if I would call it admiration, but when Dexter worked…Nothing else seemed to exist. His attention never wan

I finished the last bite of my breakfast before setting the cutlery down. The flight attendant returned a moment later to clear the tray.“May I?”“Yes, thank you.”She smiled politely before walking away with it. I leaned back against my seat and let out a slow breath. My head turned toward the window. The clouds looked so beautiful from up here. The view alone was enough to make anyone feel at peace.Yet…For some reason, I couldn’t bring myself to enjoy it.Something inside me refused to settle. I shifted in my seat. Then crossed one leg over the other.A few seconds later, I uncrossed them again Why was I so restless?I wasn’t afraid of flying.Or heights.I knew it wasn’t the turbulence or even the trip itself. It was Everything that came with it. Despite everything I had discussed with Fox and Blake last night, I still felt unsettled.Spending days pretending to be Mia Roberts and being more careful than I already was just felt exhausting.I shouldn’t feel exhausted knowing I sig

My eyes slowly moved around the luxurious cabin. From the cream leather seats to the polished walnut finish and the large windows by the side Everything had changed over the years.I could see how much the interior had improved from the last time I was in a private jet.But despite all the changes, this life still felt familiar.I really wished I could forget about it.Instead…The memories came rushing back. They reminded me of the little girl who used to board private jets holding her father’s hand without a single worry in the world.Back then, travelling was exciting. Mum would always complain that Dad packed too much for short trips.Dad would simply laugh and say, “Being prepared is a habit, not an option.”And I…I would spend half the flight glued to my phone while June and July leaned against the window asking me where we were flying over.Back then, I used to tell them I didn’t know and grumbled about how they were pestering me.Now…I realized just how precious those moments

I tightened my grip on the handle of my suitcase before pushing the glass door open. The private terminal was much quieter than the regular airport. No endless queues or families dragging oversized luggage across the floor.Just a handful of people in expensive suits moving from one corner to another while airport staff walked around calmly as though nobody here had ever been in a hurry.I paused for a second. Not because I had never been somewhere like this.I had. A long time ago.Back when airports meant vacations with Mum and Dad instead of revenge missions and fake identities. The memory flashed through my mind so quickly that I pushed it away before it could settle. That life no longer belonged to me. I adjusted the glasses on my face.Mia Roberts. That’s who I was now.I walked toward the reception desk. The woman behind it smiled politely.“Good morning.”“Good morning.”She glanced at her computer.“Your name, please?”“Mia Roberts.”Her fingers moved across the keyboard before

My alarm rang loudly beside me long before sunrise but there was no need for that because I was already awake. I had spent most of the night tossing from one side of the bed to the other, staring at the ceiling instead of sleeping. Every time I closed my eyes, all I could think about was Seattle. The business trip and spending days with Dexter. I'll be pretending to be Mia Roberts twenty-four hours a day. I reached for my phone on the bedside table. 4:37 a.m. I groaned softly before sitting up“It's time” I swung my legs over the edge of the bed and stretched before walking toward the travel bag sitting neatly beside my dresser. Even though I had packed everything last night, I still unzipped it. Just to be sure I didn't forget anything after cross-checking, I smiled doesn't look like I missed anything. Then I opened the small side pocket. My fingers immediately found the bottle of medication. I didn't pack it till Fox and Dexter left because I knew they would want to know wh

The phone on my desk rang, and I picked it up immediately. “Mia, get my car ready. We’re leaving in a few minutes.” “Oh, where—” The line went dead. He had already hung up. I stared at the receiver. “Where is your car?” I muttered under my breath, burying my face in my palms for a second. Th

I barely recognized the woman staring back at me in the mirror. For a moment, I stood there in complete silence, searching my own reflection for some trace of the Athena Mallway I had known all my life. But she was gone. In her place stood a sophisticated brunette with long bangs, and a polished

Dexter El Camino, the eldest son of the El Camino family, now ran what used to be my father’s empire. The company had been absorbed into the El Camino franchise, rebranded, and presented to the world as though it had always belonged to them. As if my father’s blood, sweat, and sacrifices had neve

  • The Forgotten Heiress   Chapter 1

How could I ever forget that night? There was no way. It had haunted me for sixteen years. How could I forget the 5th of June, 2010? It had started like every normal night in our house. The night breeze felt unreal, cool against my skin, calming enough to sink into my bones. I was outside doin
