Selena
Waking up with two toddlers jumping all over me isn't quite the scenario I once envisioned for my future.
The Guardians were right- whatever an Obsidian is, it grows fast. Much faster than any werewolf child I've seen.
Within two weeks, the boys have grown big enough to spend most of the day on their own.
I named my boys Kaven and Knight. Even though part of me hoped I could make the decision with Kane- the Guardians still claim it's too soon to return home.
I'm not sure if I trust the mysterious beings anymore. They share enough information to satisfy my curiosity but not enough to prove facts.
SelenaThe voice sounds familiar, but instead of focusing on it, I take a few deep breaths. This is one of the most important moments of my life- I can't get distracted. My boys are counting on me!My gaze wanders around the neat office as I bite my lower lip. The last time I was this nervous was when I moved in with Kane. If he could see me now, I'm sure he'd be proud of me.A few more minutes pass, and no one enters the office, so I sit down in the chair in front of the massive desk.I set my resume on the surface and eye it for the last time. It should be good. Sure, I have no experience in the field, but I can learn quickly, and they're desperate for new employees.
Kaven"What's going on?" Knight tugs at the Guardian's shirt until the man looks down at him,"Nothing, Prince Knight." He chuckles as another of his warriors approaches me.A hand lands on my head, and there goes my patience. "If I were you, I'd stop touching me. Unless you don't need the limb," I growl at the warrior, who quickly moves away from me."Now I understand why the Queen claims that young Prince Kaven is a carbon copy of the King. Both in looks and attitude. So tiny and ready to wreak havoc.""Where's mom?" Knight jumps into the conversation. As much as I'd love to show these morons their place, I'm glad my brother interr
Leran povI walk to the others, and they immediately bow to me. For now, until the rest of us awaken, I've taken upon the responsibility of the leader. I can hardly wait for the revolution to finally begin. Soon we'll stand as mighty as we once were. Then, the mortals and the supernaturals will learn their place. Soon.I still can't understand why a human was chosen as the Queen of the last Obsidian King. As vile as it sounds, at least she's naive enough to believe in what I am saying. Bringing her down will be easier than I thought.I stand with the others and think of the sweet victory we will enjoy in a few weeks. We've waited for centuries; a few weeks seems like nothing."I think some of us sh
Kane"Any news about her?" I pace back and forth in the hospital hallway, relying on Cody and the doctors. I know I'll lose my mind if something is wrong with Selena, and since I shouldn't lash out at the doctors, I need my best friend close by.They're trying to help Selena, not hurt her."Right now, there's nothing new. They're taking some blood samples from Selena, and one of the nurses said she needs to rest. I didn't find out more reasons, but the nurse mentioned a bad condition. I don't know where she was, no one really knows, but the doctors say she looks like she was starving. Or the life was sucked out of her. Something along those lines." Cody steps aside to increase the distance between us.
KaneI leave the nurse behind and trudge out of the tiny office. I shouldn't have snapped at her like that, but it's too hard to keep my temper in check.Cody sits in the chair next to the office, a cup of coffee in his hand.I notice the flash of disappointment in his eyes and groan as I drop into the chair next to him. "Don't start, please, not you too.""Kane, Selena's a fighter; she'll be fine. Just trust me, okay?" Cody tries to comfort me, offering a cup of coffee I didn't notice earlier.I'm not sure if I could get through this crap without Cody. Others view me as a brute, but to him, I'm still the same guy who's been his best frien
Nurse Abigail pov"Abigail? Where the hell have you been? You were supposed to be watching the Queen! Do you want us all killed?" The head doctor walks into the office, fuming in anger.I look up at his expression and sigh. "I was in here, Duncan. Please, calm down. The King just left, and he gave me enough hard time. Just give me a moment, and I'll join you in the Queen's room. We need to check something," my eyes sweep over the paperwork again to make sure I haven't missed anything."Check what?" Duncan sits down and raises an eyebrow at me.He's a great doctor, absolutely fantastic at what he does, but his temper might become his biggest downfall. Although we started medical school together and
Kaven pov"We have to get out of here," I groan, getting back to my feet and offering Knight my hand. Since I promised to protect my little brother, that's exactly what I'll do."Can't we just sit here for a little while? I'm so tired, Kaven," he whimpers, pulling his knees closer to his chest."It's okay, I can carry you. But we can't stay here; the Guardians will notice that we left." Knight's eyes light up as soon as I mention I'll carry him. We're twins, but we're so different. I feel a little sorry for my brother. His health has always been worse than mine, and I blame myself for that. We grew in one womb, but I don't face nearly as many struggles as Knight does. I think I took the best from m
KaneI carry the little boy to the hospital. He falls asleep in my arms; the sight melts my cold heart. Everyone in my way eyes me suspiciously while I grin like an idiot.Suddenly, Onyx decides to show up. It's been a while since I've felt his presence. He's weak, but scratching the mental wall between us is driving me insane.I can always talk to Onyx later- any sudden movement can wake up the miracle sleeping in my arms. These days I need to focus on Selena's health and the mess with the werewolf council. I wouldn't say they're happy about my decision- someone ascending the throne takes away far too many lands and power from the old fucks.
