Kane
I can't listen to her anymore, so I get back to my feet and leave the room. When I get to Selena's room, she's still asleep, a few nurses surround her.
"OUT!" I growl at them.
As everyone leaves her room, I approach her, take Selena's hand in mine and collapse next to her bed. Instinctively, I bring her hand to my lips as tears well up in my eyes.
I don't want to display any emotions, but I can't hide them anymore. The tears escape my eyes and stream down my cheeks. It breaks my heart to see Selena like this- she seems so helpless.
"I'm so sorry, my love," I whisper against her skin. "I'm sorry for everything. I wasn't there whe
LeranWe can't have any uninvited guests or a sudden return of the Queen, so I send some men out to check the area. Our main focus is on the ritual- there's little to no time to lose. If we miss the Blood Moon, we could send the entire species to damnation. Only an Obsidian can kill us, and there are three of them now. One wouldn't be a threat, but one with pups to protect is something else.I joined one of the groups so the women wouldn't have to roam around alone. Still, it's strange to stand off to the side and watch Leah stare off into the distance. She's one of the few Guardians that can't leave the territory until I say otherwise. She reaches her hand over the border, and before I can warn her, Lea
Kane"Mom? Mom? Mommy! What's the matter with you? Please, wake up; it's me, Knight! We need to find him, please wake up! Just open your eyes; I'm here. No one will hurt you ever again! I will protect you with my life; just wake up! Please, mommy, I'm begging you!" Tears run down the boy's cheeks as he keeps shaking Selena with all his might.I can't even look at him and his attempt to wake her up without tears welling up in my eyes. The problem is that I'm so shocked I still can't move a muscle. It is my son who wandered near the borders, looking for Selena. He mentioned his brother. Do I have another child now? I let out a deep breath, clench my hands into tight fists, and try to walk toward him, but the boy growls at me, warning me to stay away. Knight wraps h
Kane"I think I'm losing my mind, mister. I'm pretty sure you just said you're with your mate right now, but in this room, it's just my mom and me." Knight gasps and grabs his head in pure shock.I just hope the kid doesn't think I'm talking about him."You heard me right, pup." I grin and watch the realisation slowly sink in.Although his alert and confused state looks ridiculous, I'm far from laughing at my son's behaviour. I can't blame him if my reaction would probably be the same.I have a son for crying out loud! And now, the realisation comes over me. I am a father. Selena ne
Kaven povIt hurts.Everything hurts. This place is nothing but darkness. All I can see is pure black- pitch black, jet black. As long as Knight is okay and safe, I don't care what happens to me. Even if the Guardians kill me, at least I have saved my little brother.Mom often spoke about sacrifices we have to make for those we love, and I'm pretty sure I love my brother more than others."He's awake," a whisper comes from my left.So it's not enough that they kidnapped me, did something, and literally decided to hold me captive; they ar
KaneWe are close. So close that I can feel those filthy animals. No wonder I had a bad feeling the first time I came in contact with one of the Guardians. Their presence makes my skin crawl."Here," one of the warriors speaks up, pointing his finger at the ground. We've been circling this area for about ten minutes. Everything may seem to be in place for humans, but we noticed too many inconsistencies. The woods aren't nearly as perfect as this place - it looks like the Guardians created the picture-perfect scenery to confuse everyone.I scan the place pointed out by a warrio
KaneAs soon as I get back to the hospital, I instruct the doctors that Slenena and Kaven are their main priorities from now on. If they screw up anything, they will pay the ultimate price.I'm done with this shit. I just want my family- safe and sound, all of them by my side.Cody comes around the corner, a look of relief flitting across his face as soon as he notices me. "You found the boy, thank the Moon Goddess," he says, running his fingers through his hair and leaning against the wall to study my face."I did. I found him," I mutter under my breath, clenching my hands into tight firsts. It takes all I have in me to restrain myself from punching the wall.
Selena povI can't move, as if some invisible force is holding me down and pushing me deeper into the abyss of darkness. I can't wrap my mind around the feeling. I can feel it when someone touches me, but I can't feel my body, and at the same time- I feel nothing but pain. How could this ever make any sense?I hear voices, some of them familiar, others less so.The last thing I remember is heading to the town for a job interview. Did it go successfully, or did I fail? No, that's not important. All that matters is where I am, who I am with, and where my boys are. God, sometimes I hate being human. There are those moments when I feel like I have no control over my life.
KaneWe reach the location and sit down near the massive door that separates us from the leftover Guardians. No matter how many of them are hidden there, I'll walk around each grave and place the explosives myself. And I won't leave until I'm sure none of those bastards are left. But for now, my men need rest before we get to work blowing this place into oblivion."King?" Someone appears beside me and hands me a bottle of water.I nod my head and gulp down the liquid. Although we didn't have to travel too far out of the Kingdom's territory, the journey was a bit tiring. My g
