3. Ethan ||
The darkness within me threatened to slip to the surface but I held it back. I turned back at Rachael and forced a smile to keep her at ease. I turned back to my elder brother. "Nathan, take back your words," I growled deeply. His eyes looked down on me. "Or what?" His voice was low, with just the right amount of vibrato to express the aggression he threatened to release. He had always been like this, egging and pushing me to anger. I wouldn't fall for a trap that obvious. Not today. I closed my eyes. "Nathan, she possesses the power of the Moon Goddess. She needs to be inside right now!" His eyelids flickered for a second and he glanced at her. "No way!" He shook his head. "She's the moon wolf?!" He pointed at her. "Yes listen, Nathan—" "Are you stupid? I thought you were bringing in strays again, but you brought this dangerous hybrid to our doorstep?!" The veins at his neck bulged, threatening to tear out of his flesh. "I'm not stupid! You know it, you are just scared!" I exploded. Nathan glared at me and threw a murderous look at Rachael. I could sense her cowering under his gaze. "Now listen, my dear younger brother Ethan, do you know what you just did?" He brought his face closer to mine. "I just saved her life, you know she—" I lowered my voice. "—You know she deserves better than this. Why are you being so difficult?" My voice trembled with anger. I was slowly getting tired of the madness! Nathan shook his head. "You are just ignoring the facts. You know taking her in will only make an enemy of us to the other packs, hunh? Didn't you think that through?" I placed a hand on his chest and pushed him back. "You don't tell me what to do, just like I don't tell you what to do." I turned my back to him and walked towards Rachael. Nathan scoffed. "You see—" I felt like a thin thread was about to break, with the next words he spoke,and I turned my head slightly. "Choose your next words carefully," I warned. He knew he had already won me in the emotional warfare. "You can't be the next alpha if you think with your heart." Screw this! Like hot boiling water jumping out of a geyser fountain, rage in its purest form enveloped my body. "Now you have done it!" My voice was distorted as I partially transformed into my wolf and ran into him. His eyes glowed green as he transformed too, and he ran towards me. I was putting everything into this strike, and I bet he was thinking the same because the moment our right arms nearly contacted our bodies, our father's roar stopped us in our tracks. "THAT'S ENOUGH!" The alpha of the Ravensclaw pack stood between us. His hold on our arms was nearly enough to break it into two. "I will not have my sons duke it out in front of our guest!" Quickly, my anger dissipated, and I glared at Nathan. “Good.” He hissed as he released our arms and Nathan winced. My arm felt alien to me, but I refused to flinch in pain. My father ignored us and moved his attention to Rachael who looked like she was going to slip back into the vehicle and run. "Look at her, she's so cold and confused right now? Is that how we treat our guests?" He clapped his hands and maids surrounded Rachael in seconds. "Lead her to the guest room and have her rest. The journey must have been very long. I'm sorry for my sons' behavior." Nathan frowned. "Father, don't do that. She's a problem to the pack—" "Shush!" He held up a finger and Nathan remained silent, if not for some occasional grunting and low rambling. Rachael looked back at me with the words 'Help me!' written on her face as the maids led her inside the gates. I couldn't help but worry for her too. It also gave me some peace, to know that she relied on me. Not like she had any other choices; her uncle wasn't here, and I was the next person she knew. I nodded at her that it was alright, but she never stopped looking until she made it past the gates. Father suddenly clapped, pulling me out of my thoughts. "Now we can talk, she's gone." "You are making a mistake, father." Nathan made sure to control his tone before his father, but it was useless. "No, I'm not. Just like Ethan said, we can't leave her to die out here. Especially when we know we can do something." Father glanced at me, and a little smile played on his face for a second. I chose to remain silent and watched how Father handled it. I knew he had other reasons. But Nathan wasn't having it. "Father, I know you are playing a game. That's not the real reason you are keeping her right?" "Indeed." He said with a smirk. "She gives us the advantage over the other packs because of her power. That way, people wouldn't want to mess with us for a while… not even the Hunters." Nathan smiled, but it was of defeat and frustration "Incredible. Wonderful—" "Watch it." I reminded him of father's alpha status. Nathan scoffed. "I'm going to find a way to kick her out." He started towards the gate. "Be it with the council or the other, because I won't place our people in danger. Our enemies, nefarious groups from everywhere will attack us because of her, and I will protect our people." He turned away and disappeared into the gate, mumbling away in anger. Silence filled the space around us and Father looked at me, a gentle old smile playing on his lips. "Nathan has grown, I didn't make him Chairman of internal affairs in the pack for nothing." He smiled in admiration. Knowing my father, I knew this was just a start of something else and somehow, I didn’t like it. “So what are you thinking concerning his hate for Racheal?” “I’ll make him marry her.”51. Ethan. "Rutherford did what?!" I adjusted my earpiece, but I didn't hear my brother well. "Look, get your ass down here and get ready to welcome Rutherford. He heard about the attack and is on his way," Nathan's voice came clean. What the hell was that fat man thinking? The line went dead and I removed my hand from my ear. The elevator dinged, the door slid open and health workers were surprised to see me using the normal elevator. "My lord! What a surprise, you are here!""Thank the Goddess our young Lord is fine! Glory be to her!" A woman held her hands together in prayer. "Thank you, thank you very much. Also thanks for the prayers and the good work, we need you now more than ever." I encouraged them as I left the scene immediately. A black car waited for me at the exit, and I jogged to it. "Status report?" I said as I got in. Chekov was at the front, with another man from my special team who was at the wheel. "Nothing my lord. I just got an important update that the alp
50. Rachael "Please strap in, my lady," the paramedic advised. She wasn't that old, maybe in her early thirties. She showed me a seat in the ambulance. "It's alright. I can watch over her like this." I insisted. The van shook a little but I steadied myself by holding the walls."My lady, I meant to sit down. You don't want to hit your head against the metal," she explained further. I accepted the offer and sat down on a vacant chair. Sarah had been given mild pain meds and there was a large amount of fluids, replenishing her body. The ambulance arrived at the hospital, which turned out to be the institute where I had gone recently with Ethan. The medical team waited at the entrance with a stretcher and they moved her away faster than I could catch up. They entered an elevator, which I caught in the nick of time. We arrived on the fourth floor, and she was moved straight to the emergency room. I attempted to follow but the nurses stopped me. "My lady, sit back. We've got it from
49. Ethan. I bent over the rubble, examining a portrait that had fallen face-first against the ground, and talked into my earpiece. "Any luck with taking the rogues prisoner?" I picked up the portrait and hissed, it was a piece from the one that displayed our pack's insignia. "No, my lord. We were going under heavy fire, and we might have gone out a little too hard." The captain of the second squad spoke. I could just imagine the heavy creases on her face. "Understandable." I got on my feet and sighed. It was going to cost a fortune to rebuild, but the real problem was getting back the rare portraits and ornaments that were destroyed. "Assemble the rest of the guys, get some rest. I will see you when I'm done," I said. "Yes, my lord." I ended it and stepped outside. A lot of guards, mostly the common guards walked over the place with the police and some of our forces. I felt a breeze in my chest, and I realised my jacket was still open. I zipped up and continued walking until I s
48. Rachael. A werewolf, covered in jet black fur in some areas except for the head, which had white fur. It was almost humanoid, except for an increased muscle mass and elongated snout just like a wolf. I recognised Ethan in an instant, but he was different. He was very angry, and I could sense his blood lust. Ethan had left forward, his claws out to reach the enemy but the rogue was very smart. He quickly grabbed me and used me as a cover. Ethan suddenly held back his attack and held his ground. "That's fucking right young pup! If you try anything stupid, I will snap her fucking neck!" The rogue snickered boldly. "You will regret that if you do it." Ethan's voice carried a dark threat. I could almost picture what he meant. I took the initiative to act and started kicking the rogue furiously. "Leave me, the fuck alone!" I screamed and punched, but it only prompted him to tighten his grip on my hair and the back of my neck, which hurt. "Oh, don't you act funny with me!" He slow
47. Ethan. 20 MINUTES EARLIER. I peered over the broken walls to assess the situation. It was hard to see more than ten meters in any direction because of the unsettled dust. And there was the occasional sound of gunfire around us, with silver bullets, which was a problem for werewolves. I moved away from the wall, keeping my head in a constant swivel. Chekov had gone out for a while to gather our remaining men. It had just been five minutes since he left, an hour since the attack began and there was no use. It was safe to say at this point, a section of the main building in the castle had been blown away. It was just shy of the living quarters of the maids, which gave some relief. The ceiling above me seemed unstable like the first floor would come crashing down with all that damage. My communicator chirped and I held it to my ears. I looked for cover so that I wouldn't be vulnerable in all that ruin. "Speak to me, Chekov.""Sire, Squad One and I are making our way to you. The
46. Rachael. Suddenly, we were running through corridors and opening doors, trying to put some distance between us and the enemy. It must have been the rush of adrenaline, but Sarah had been running perfectly fine for like ten seconds before she relapsed, and stubborn me, as usual, refused to let her stay behind. "This is pointless, I'm holding you back! Leave!" Sarah yelled. She kept staring behind us as we waddled away. I could barely answer, my heart was in my mouth. It was a miracle that I still thought about Sarah even as we were tired. "I'm coming for you!" Heavy footsteps echoed behind us. A heavy pang echoed in my chest. I was losing all my strength to fear. I kept wondering what horrors he would do to me and Sarah when he caught up. I had his own injuries to thank too, because if he had been perfectly healthy, I was in real trouble—and Sarah. I started to wish I were born a boy—a man. Maybe I would have been able to go toe to toe with our pursuer. Where was Ethan, where
