LOGIN3. Ethan ||
The darkness within me threatened to slip to the surface but I held it back. I turned back at Rachael and forced a smile to keep her at ease. I turned back to my elder brother. "Nathan, take back your words," I growled deeply. His eyes looked down on me. "Or what?" His voice was low, with just the right amount of vibrato to express the aggression he threatened to release. He had always been like this, egging and pushing me to anger. I wouldn't fall for a trap that obvious. Not today. I closed my eyes. "Nathan, she possesses the power of the Moon Goddess. She needs to be inside right now!" His eyelids flickered for a second and he glanced at her. "No way!" He shook his head. "She's the moon wolf?!" He pointed at her. "Yes listen, Nathan—" "Are you stupid? I thought you were bringing in strays again, but you brought this dangerous hybrid to our doorstep?!" The veins at his neck bulged, threatening to tear out of his flesh. "I'm not stupid! You know it, you are just scared!" I exploded. Nathan glared at me and threw a murderous look at Rachael. I could sense her cowering under his gaze. "Now listen, my dear younger brother Ethan, do you know what you just did?" He brought his face closer to mine. "I just saved her life, you know she—" I lowered my voice. "—You know she deserves better than this. Why are you being so difficult?" My voice trembled with anger. I was slowly getting tired of the madness! Nathan shook his head. "You are just ignoring the facts. You know taking her in will only make an enemy of us to the other packs, hunh? Didn't you think that through?" I placed a hand on his chest and pushed him back. "You don't tell me what to do, just like I don't tell you what to do." I turned my back to him and walked towards Rachael. Nathan scoffed. "You see—" I felt like a thin thread was about to break, with the next words he spoke,and I turned my head slightly. "Choose your next words carefully," I warned. He knew he had already won me in the emotional warfare. "You can't be the next alpha if you think with your heart." Screw this! Like hot boiling water jumping out of a geyser fountain, rage in its purest form enveloped my body. "Now you have done it!" My voice was distorted as I partially transformed into my wolf and ran into him. His eyes glowed green as he transformed too, and he ran towards me. I was putting everything into this strike, and I bet he was thinking the same because the moment our right arms nearly contacted our bodies, our father's roar stopped us in our tracks. "THAT'S ENOUGH!" The alpha of the Ravensclaw pack stood between us. His hold on our arms was nearly enough to break it into two. "I will not have my sons duke it out in front of our guest!" Quickly, my anger dissipated, and I glared at Nathan. “Good.” He hissed as he released our arms and Nathan winced. My arm felt alien to me, but I refused to flinch in pain. My father ignored us and moved his attention to Rachael who looked like she was going to slip back into the vehicle and run. "Look at her, she's so cold and confused right now? Is that how we treat our guests?" He clapped his hands and maids surrounded Rachael in seconds. "Lead her to the guest room and have her rest. The journey must have been very long. I'm sorry for my sons' behavior." Nathan frowned. "Father, don't do that. She's a problem to the pack—" "Shush!" He held up a finger and Nathan remained silent, if not for some occasional grunting and low rambling. Rachael looked back at me with the words 'Help me!' written on her face as the maids led her inside the gates. I couldn't help but worry for her too. It also gave me some peace, to know that she relied on me. Not like she had any other choices; her uncle wasn't here, and I was the next person she knew. I nodded at her that it was alright, but she never stopped looking until she made it past the gates. Father suddenly clapped, pulling me out of my thoughts. "Now we can talk, she's gone." "You are making a mistake, father." Nathan made sure to control his tone before his father, but it was useless. "No, I'm not. Just like Ethan said, we can't leave her to die out here. Especially when we know we can do something." Father glanced at me, and a little smile played on his face for a second. I chose to remain silent and watched how Father handled it. I knew he had other reasons. But Nathan wasn't having it. "Father, I know you are playing a game. That's not the real reason you are keeping her right?" "Indeed." He said with a smirk. "She gives us the advantage over the other packs because of her power. That way, people wouldn't want to mess with us for a while… not even the Hunters." Nathan smiled, but it was of defeat and frustration "Incredible. Wonderful—" "Watch it." I reminded him of father's alpha status. Nathan scoffed. "I'm going to find a way to kick her out." He started towards the gate. "Be it with the council or the other, because I won't place our people in danger. Our enemies, nefarious groups from everywhere will attack us because of her, and I will protect our people." He turned away and disappeared into the gate, mumbling away in anger. Silence filled the space around us and Father looked at me, a gentle old smile playing on his lips. "Nathan has grown, I didn't make him Chairman of internal affairs in the pack for nothing." He smiled in admiration. Knowing my father, I knew this was just a start of something else and somehow, I didn’t like it. “So what are you thinking concerning his hate for Racheal?” “I’ll make him marry her.”60. RachaelThe fact that he was grinning made me nervous like he had planned something bad. I looked at the empty road and clutched my seatbelt. "Why...why did you stop?" My tone fell. Nathan's eyes lingered for a while before he focused on the road. The car accelerated, indicating the journey had resumed. He remained silent for a long time as none of it had happened. "For dramatic effect." He smiled at the road. "Dramatic effect? What are you...okay." I opted to remain silent. Surely Nathan wouldn't try anything stupid, right? "You know, I deliberately stopped the car to make you anxious. Your facial expressions are quite amusing," he teased me. "Knock it off. It's not funny, I don't like you.""I know, and I care less about that. The real reason I picked you up is—" he strained his neck forward as if he were trying to look further into the distance. "Well, not that it matters. You won't believe me.""You can keep it to yourself." I looked away. "I just want to go to my room q
59. Rachael. I walked out of the lift and turned to the corridor, where my escorts were supposed to be but a suited man got up from the bench and approached me. "My lady, good evening," he said, his voice smooth and courteous as he bowed his head in a gesture of respect. However, the gesture seemed almost irrelevant, given his shockingly short stature, which made the bow more endearing than intimidating. "No need to fear, everything is under control," he assured me, his words intended to put me at ease. Yet, his opening words only served to heighten my anxiety, and I felt a surge of nervousness wash over me."Where are the escorts? Who are you?" I asked, taking a step back, my voice firm but laced with a hint of wariness. He raised his brows, a look of mild surprise crossing his face. "Ah, my apologies," he said, his tone dripping with politeness. "I'm Raymond, I work for Master Nathan as his aide," he introduced himself, his words revealing a posh flair that hinted at a refined up
58. Rachael. Lyanna brought out weird herbs from her "Chest of Doom", a name I had penned for a large wooden chest-like box on the table. She set a table and started arranging her herbs like it was some sort of treasure. "I was hoping you would come sooner. I have a lot to show you and I'm always alone." She grinned widely. "Seeing a fresh face here is always exciting to me. The rest ran away." She rolled up the sleeves of her large robe, revealing a dark set of tattoos on her forearms. "What do you mean....ran away?" I did a quick scan of the room for odd-looking weapons. "It was too boring, and the others nodded in agreement, echoing the sentiment with varying degrees of conviction. And the others said it was hard work," she continued, a hint of a smile playing on her lips as if she found their complaints endearing. "But I still love it," she said, her voice filled with a quiet passion that seemed to emanate from deep within her. She lit up candles, the soft flicker of
57. Rachael. With Ethan basically ghosting me for several days now and Sarah's sudden summon from the Alpha, I decided to see the prophetess Lyanna. Mr. Chekov, Ethan's right hand man had been checking on me for a while now, even though it didn't seem like that. He was always passing near my room, always checking over his shoulder. That morning, he was deeply engrossed in a hushed discussion with a guard, his voice low and serious, and he was dressed in his full uniform, the insignia gleaming in the morning light. He noticed me bringing my head out into the corridor, and his eyes snapped towards me, his gaze piercing and calculated. "Mr. Chekov," I called out politely, my voice carrying across the hallway, as I saw him standing there. He immediately stopped discussing with the guards, signalling that he would talk to them later, and the guards nodded before leaving us alone. He moved towards me, his strides long and purposeful. "My lady, I hope all is well?" he asked, his voice co
56. Ethan. I parked the car further from its initial position, behind the bushes. An alarming number of guards were on patrol as if an incident had happened. If something happened, Chekov would have called by now. I was sure of it. Not like it was much of a problem, but it was already dark. I had the advantage here. I used my training to sneak past the guards, using the bushes around the path as a cover. I was still a long way off from the castle, but it wasn't still a problem. I channeled power into my limbs, satisfaction hitting when my muscles tightened from the sudden energy influx in them. I ran along the cover of the trees along the paved path to get to my entry point, where I had exited from the secret passage way in 15 seconds flat. I carefully opened the camouflaged hatch to the passageway, the creaky hinges echoing softly in the stillness. I winced, holding my breath, as I scanned the surrounding area for any sign of detection. Satisfied that I hadn't attracted unwanted
55. Ethan. I was a little lost in the city. I sat in the park, eating chips in public like every tough-looking guy like me would. The park was emptying every passing hour because it had gotten darker. Aside from that, there seemed to be a form of tension in the air. I could see it on people's faces as they hurried home. That faint sign of worry on the face, the creasing of the lips. The slight gritting of the jaws and the furrowing of the brows. Everyone knew something was up. In the little silence that followed, I started thinking about a lot of things. I thought of the attacks, the altercation with the man from before and I thought of Rachael. She mentioned once that humans faced discrimination from werewolves, but I didn't know it was like that. It made me pity the humans working in this part of the city since the area was pretty dominated by werewolves. I would have to do something about that sometime in the future. I glanced at my watch and nodded. A lot of people would be h
