Kael’s POV

I smiled, “Thank you, brother.”

I tapped his shoulder, “I'm leaving for now.”

"Alright, go check on Syria. Valentin’s probably done tending to her by now."

As he was about to walk away, I halted him.

"Hey," I said. "Thanks... again for everything."

He looked back, his face easing. After that, he grinned at me. That classic, brotherly grin.

"Come on, man. I’m your brother. We're always here for each other. You know that."

We bumped fists like we usually did and then he strolled down the corridor. As I watched him leave, I inhaled deeply and turned back to Syria's room.

When I stepped inside, I was surprised to find her awake.

“Am I interrupting something?” I asked.

Valentin stood up from the side of the bed, calmly adjusting the damp towel in her hand.

“Not at all. I’ve finished cleaning her off. She appears to be improving a little now."
