--Ines POV--

"Father is raging, Silvia." I've not heard that name for so long, I'd almost forgot what it sounded like to hear someone call me by it.

We were in Alaric's home, and I stood by the window to look out at the view of the city with my brother sitting on the sofa, his eyes unmoving from me as he filled me in on everything that's happened in our home since my disappearance. Alaric himself was nowhere to be found, but he said something about Maxwell coming to visit, and went out to get him.

"...I know."

"You know? How?" He asked.

"I could hear you in my dreams, all of you. But I couldn't reply to you, I felt helpless, and desperate. But

--Ines POV--"Let her go, I don't like repeating myself." Malachi smiled. And I knew, all too well, how much he hated repeating himself."Let her go, Vivian." I said, looking at the woman who turned to look at me, eyes asking if I was being serious to which I nodded, not wanting to risk her life over Cordelia's."Unless you want to be the first person to test out if this gun works or not." The black fog quickly diminished, and Cordelia fell to the ground, panting and coughing for air while Vivian was left, an angry scowl plastered on her features."I know you all think of me as a mere Human, but even for a mere Human, I'm quite successful, you know. How many people do you know of that grew to success as quickly as I did? Ines helped, of course, but a voice isn't enough to succeed in this line of work. With this brain of mine that you mocked, I conjured up this bullet which guarantees death to anyone who falls victim to it, and even this Witch that's never taken me seriously is now ben

--Ines POV--"I am not the kind of father that will kill his daughter's soulmate, any other lover then maybe? But the ties of soulmates aren't a mistake. Your souls are too interwoven with each other that severing it is impossible without causing damage to the other.""But... You said...""I lied. To test just how dedicated you were, and I wasn't disappointed. I am proud of you, dear child of mine, and so is your mother." He smiled, the happiness shining in his blue eyes."Really?" I whispered, breathless, relieved tears pricking at my eyes which I worked to hold back. And he nodded, one firm nod, saying that this was the end of his test."I apologise, I am not the kind of man that likes testing his children in such a cruel way, but I was able to do it because I had confidence that whatever choice you made, you would be intent on it, and I wasn't disappointed.""But... Why?" Alaric beat me in asking."Because I needed to know how intent you were on staying with each other before I mad

--Ines POV--"Ooh, nice house you got here. What line of work are you in to be able to afford it?" Maxwell asked as Vivian parked the car in the driveway of the luxurious-looking house, and like him, I was peering at the house too, awestruck.I've never seen a house like this before. It was pretty, made of some sort of grey stone with lots of windows, and I vaguely remember the memory in which I told Alaric about my dream house that I wanted to live in once I broke the curse. It seems that even then, I was already so used to living as a Human that I planned to stay here once the curse was broken."I'm a businesswoman, became one even before women had rights... I could buy a house like this without batting an eye if I wanted... But this isn't my house.""What? Then whose is it?" Maxwell itched the back of his neck, but he was no more confused than the rest of us."We'll figure that out later. For now, we need to get to my father, I haven't seen him in five years; That's the longest we'

**A FEW HOURS EARLIER**--Ines POV--"Where's that lover of yours gone off to?" Halcyon asked as we wandered around the streets of the city with Maxwell leisurely leading the way by a few feet."He's a busy man, so he's probably working." I guessed to which he hummed in reply."What do you even like about him? I was hoping that after Malachi, or whatever you said his name was, you'd have learned your lesson to steer clear of the Human species. But here we are instead, wandering around the centre of their civilisation," He grumbled, rolling his eyes as we continued to walk."Don't pin one man's mistake on his whole species, brother. I'd have hoped that after meeting Rick and Maxwell you would understand that there is always good with bad. I was able to see that through them, and now my mind is so much clearer,""Are you sure you haven't just been fooled? Or maybe it's a side effect of having legs instead of your tail, you're becoming more and more like them...""Don't be ridiculous." I

--Alaric POV--"This next one is called the Dolce Vita Villa, it's just finished with construction this month so it's not even on the market yet, but I thought it'd be perfect for you." The realtor spoke as she led the way towards the property, and I followed, one hand in my trouser pocket while the other hand took my sunglasses off so that I could get a clearer view of the glistening property."I like the location." I nodded my approval.Ines is currently showing her brother around the city with Maxwell, and I took the opportunity to come here in search of a house.I remember on the day when I found out she was a mermaid, I had half-jokingly asked her what she wants to do in the future once she broke the curse, and surprising me, she had replied by saying that she wanted a house. A big one, with lots of windows, and a comfy mattress. So, that is what I'm doing now.But I must be quite a picky man since I've looked at over 10 different properties so far and there's been something wron

--Ines POV--"...What?""There's an ongoing investigation, and the police are looking for him, but he's nowhere to be found for now. It seems that he's tucked his tail and ran, talk about pathetic." Alaric replied with an eyeroll as he came to sit beside me on his sofa."He wouldn't just run though," I mumbled, heartbeat picking up as I thought about exactly what Malachi could have been attempting right now.I've been stuck with him for 5 years, and he's got too much pride to just run away; He wouldn't go anywhere without a fight, and he knew that I knew that. What is he planning?"Yeah, I was surprised to hear it too. But I don't think we have to worry." His voice assured me, the fast beating of my heart quickly calming down as he wrapped his arms around my waist, dragging me over to sit on his knees."Why not?" I asked, hands placed on his shoulder where I played with the soft locks of his hair, and he smiled at the
