Kael's POV

The woman's eyes widened at my honest admission.

"But I want you to know that the man kneeling before you right now would rather die than cause you or anyone else another moment of suffering," I continued, my words coming from the deepest part of my soul. "I would rather take my own life than let that monster loose on my people again."

"My King," she breathed, and something in her tone had shifted completely.

The silence stretched between us for what felt like an eternity. Finally, I felt the woman move.

She stepped closer and gently placed her hands over mine.

"Please stand up, my King," she said quietly, her voice filled with something that sounded almost like reverence.

I remained kneeling, not sure I deserved to rise. "I do not think I have earned the right to stand in your presence after everything I have done."

"You have done something today that no king in history has ever done," she said, her voice growing stronger. "You have humbled yourself before one of your subj

Sena's POVKael's expression shifted to one of puzzlement at my question, his brow furrowing as he considered his answer."Yes," he said simply, his voice carrying a weight of honesty that made my chest tighten. "I was desperately lonely, Sena. That is why I spent every possible moment at your bedside, talking to you even when you could not respond."His silver eyes grew distant as he continued. "I did not want you to feel the isolation I was experiencing. I know what loneliness can do to a person, how it can drive you to the edge of madness. So I filled the silence with my voice, hoping that somehow, wherever you were, you could hear me and know you were not abandoned."The raw emotion in his words brought tears to my eyes. All of Lydia's poisonous insinuations crumbled in the face of his genuine vulnerability. This man had not been seeking comfort in another woman's arms - he had been pouring his heart out to my unconscious form, fighting to keep me tethered to the world.Unable to

Sena's POVFive days after my awakening, Dr. Ashford finally declared me strong enough to move about the castle. The freedom to walk on my own legs again felt intoxicating after so many months of confinement, even if I tired more easily than before.I was making my way through the west wing, enjoying the simple pleasure of movement, when Lydia emerged from a side corridor and blocked my path."Well, well," she said, her sweet facade dropping away like a discarded mask. "The sleeping princess has finally found her legs."The transformation was startling. Gone was the delicate, traumatized woman who had spoken so softly in my chambers. In her place stood someone harder, more calculating, with eyes that glittered with malicious intelligence."Lydia," I said carefully, glancing around the empty corridor. "What a surprise to encounter you here.""Cut the innocent act," she snapped, stepping closer. "We both know you heard me during your little unconscious vacation. I saw the recognition in

Sena's POVThe tension in the room was suffocating as Lydia settled into the chair with that predatory smile. I could feel the weight of her gaze studying me, as if she were cataloging every detail about my appearance and condition."Lydia," Kael's voice cut through the silence, firm and authoritative. "Sena needs her rest. Perhaps this conversation can wait for another time."Her smile faltered for just a moment, a flash of irritation crossing her delicate features. "Of course," she said, though her tone suggested she was anything but pleased with the dismissal. "How thoughtless of me to tire you when you are still recovering."She rose gracefully from the chair, smoothing down her blue dress. "I do hope we will have more time to chat soon, Sena. There is so much I am eager to discuss with you."The way she said my name made my skin crawl, but I managed to nod politely. "I look forward to it."After Lydia glided from the room with one last meaningful look in my direction, silence set

🪷🪷CHAPTER FIFTY-SEVEN Sena's POV Two days had passed since I awakened, and though my body grew stronger with each hour, my mind remained clouded with questions that no one seemed eager to answer. I sat propped against pillows in bed, picking at the bowl of soup Vera had brought me, when I finally voiced the concern that had been weighing on my heart. "The little girl," I said quietly. "The child who died. What happened after... after I failed to save her?" Kael, who had been reading correspondence in the chair beside my bed, looked up sharply. Something painful flickered across his features. "Sena, you do not need to burden yourself with—" "I need to know," I interrupted, setting the bowl aside. "Please. I remember what happened. I remember her convulsions, the blood, her mother's screams. What came after?" Vera, who had been quietly mending a torn dress by the window, set down her needle and thread. "Child, perhaps it would be better to focus on your recovery before revisit

Sena's POVThe first sensation was light piercing through my closed eyelids, warm and golden against my skin. Then came the feeling of weight—my body had substance again, solid and real beneath soft sheets. My eyes fluttered open slowly, the world coming into focus in fragments. A ceiling painted with delicate patterns. Walls I recognized. The familiar scent of lavender and sunshine that belonged to my chamber in Kael's castle.I was back."Oh merciful goddess," gasped a voice from somewhere to my left.I turned my head—such a simple movement that felt monumental after months of existing as nothing but consciousness—to see young Clara, one of the castle maids, standing frozen with a cloth in her hands. Her eyes were wide with shock as she stared at me."My lady," she whispered. "You are awake."Before I could speak, before I could even attempt to sit up, Clara dropped her cleaning supplies and ran from the room, her voic

Sena's POVFour days passed in the gray world before Lysander returned.I had spent those days rehearsing what I would say, how I would present my decision without revealing the desperate calculations that had led me to it. When his tall silhouette finally emerged from the mist, I was ready."You look more composed than when I last saw you," he observed, studying my face with those unsettling eyes.I had forced myself to sit upright despite the exhaustion that weighed down my limbs. Whatever weakness I felt, I would not let him see me cowering on the ground again."I have been thinking about your offer," I said, keeping my voice steady."And what conclusions have you reached?""I will accept your terms."The words came out easier than I had expected. Lysander's eyebrows rose slightly, but his expression remained carefully neutral."That is quite a change from your previous position," he said. "May I ask
