LOGINIt took me a whole flipping 3 days for me to start seeing improvements. I could sit up and move around on my own. Reid didn't stop coming to check on me, and I was starting to wonder if he really had nothing else to do. I was standing in front of the mirror in the room, staring at my reflection.
My eyes looked lifeless, and my lips drawn into a thin line. I lifted my fingers to run them through my hair, ignoring the slight sting of pain that still lingered around.
The door slipped open, and I turned. It was Reid. A maid was right behind him with breakfast. I forced out a smile.
“You shouldn't have bothered coming with her…” I said. Deep within me, I was starting to wonder why he was so nice to me. I haven't done anything to warrant such treatment except for the fact that I got flung across the forest five days ago. It almost seemed like I was getting scared for nothing when I was about to enter the Bloodmoon pack.
I walked away from the mirror. I was not exactly pleased with my appearance anyway, so I sat down and started eating. The silence was awkward because Reid just sat there staring at me like I was the most interesting thing he had ever discovered.
I didn't feel comfortable having me stare at him, but I didn't talk about it. I would rather have him be in this positive mood than for me to push his buttons after saying something nasty to him. If he suddenly decided to chase me out of his pack right now, then my plan has been totally abolished.
I finished eating after a while, and Reid called for a maid to clear the plates. He asked me if there was anything else I needed, and I said no. He nodded and made to leave when I stopped him.
“Alpha Reid…”
“Yes?” He turned back to stare at me.
“Would it be nice enough for me to take a quick stroll around?” I asked.
“Sure, definitely, I can use that opportunity to show you around.” I forced out a smile as he held the door open for me.
Since I hadn't stepped out of that room since day one, it felt like I was in a foreign land. The house was insanely huge, aesthetically decorated with interior designs that looked really expensive.
Everywhere was sparkling clean; I feared touching a single thing might stain it. The palace maids were busy, walking around the palace pack house as they went about their activities.
We got outside, and I took a moment to appreciate the feel of the morning breeze against my skin. The sun was still rising, giving off a soft glow across the ornamental trees planted around the palace's pack house.
Reid began taking me around, showing me the pack training grounds where aspiring pack warriors received training every day, the pack meeting ground, and finally the pack dispensary.
“According to my dad, the dispensary is filled with doctors so skilled they can cure any type of illness, except my dad's,” he said sadly. This was the moment I was waiting for. But instead of me to grab it, I just stared at him, suddenly starting to feel sorry for him, but then remembered that his father did kill my family, wiped out my entire pack, including my sick mother, father, and my little brother, Ellis. I shouldn't be feeling sorry for him, not when his Father deserves every bit of suffering he's going through right now. I should make sure I carry out my revenge without a single hesitation.
“If you'll let me, I can try to help,” I finally said. Reid looked up, a little confused.
“If I see your dad, I might be able to discover what is wrong with him and treat him. Just take it as my own way of thanking you for the care and medical services you gave me since my accident.”
“You're a doctor?” He asked in disbelief.
“I won't exactly say I'm a doctor since I don't have any school certificate that legally calls me one, but my uncle is extremely good when it comes to finding a cure for any type of ailment. I just picked one or two things from him, so I'm more likely to call myself a healer.”
Reid didn't hesitate. He called for the maids and instructed them to tell the doctors in his father's room to leave for a few minutes. I went back to my room to take my bag. I fought the urge not to smile. My plan was working out perfectly.
Finally, I stood in front of a door, my heart beating fast. I was about to physically see the person who killed my family. I wasn't sure I was prepared for it until I found myself reaching for Reid's hand. He gripped mine without hesitation, looking down at me softly.
I let out a deep breath and pushed the door open. Reid let go of my hand and walked forward towards his father.
“Father… I brought in another healer, hopefully she can find a solution to your sickness…”
“Of what use is another healer when even the best doctors I have can't discover what is wrong with me?” A deep voice interrupted Reid, shortly followed by raspy coughing. I winced. That coughing sounded like it hurt a great deal.
I shouldn't be bothered by that. I stepped out from behind Reid and stared down at the pale-looking man lying on the bed. He looked like he was going to die anytime soon, and I started to get scared that I might figure out what was genuinely wrong with him.
He held a while handkerchief which he coughed into more frequently than he breathed in, and it was stained with blood. Each time he coughed, more blood appeared on the handkerchief.
That was already a sign that his werewolf healing system was shutting down. Whatever was wrong with him, the werewolf's ability to heal him wasn't working. The only reason he was still alive, even though he had been sick for years with that condition, was because the dominant alpha side kept him alive for this long. I was sure it wasn't going to keep him alive for much longer, unless I gave him my medication.
Reid stared at me with hope as he realized that I was starting to figure out what was wrong. I put my back down and brought out the few bottles of concocted medicine Axel had given me.
“Can I get a small bowl and wolfsbane flower?” Reid was frozen for a moment.
“Wolfsbane flower?”
“Trust me,” I said. Wolfsbane flower was as poisonous as the silver wolf's solution used to weaken werewolves, but in this situation, I need a shot of poison to combat the sickness. Reid went out immediately while I carefully selected the bottles of medicine I would be using.
He reentered the room with what I had requested. I was impressed by how fast he got them.
I started crushing a tiny piece of the flower in the bowl, adding a few drops of the medicine Axel had given me beforehand. After a few minutes of mixing. I stood up and asked Reid to feed it to his father. I didn't want to touch that man for the fear of strangling him with the anger that still very much burned within me.
The man greedily consumed the contents. I could see that he was at the stage where he consumed anything as long as he felt it could heal him. I stared at him because deep inside I knew the truth about that sickness of his.
I stared at him for a while as we waited for the medicine to kick in. I turned to Reid. He has to get prepared for what's coming.
“Can I speak to you for a moment?”
I held onto my bag tightly, my heart threatening to beat out of my chest. I tried thinking of whatever I might have possibly left behind on that table, but with the panic in me, I couldn't think straight.Reid turned, and I was speechless for a few seconds when he held up a dead flower that piqued my curiosity a few days back. I was trying to see if it had any medicinal benefits, but I had abandoned it on the table when I couldn't find anything.I was starting to worry that I got busted. I muttered under my breath as I explained what it was. He looked like he didn't understand what I was saying, so I just impatiently glanced at the door. He probably noticed because he dropped the flower back on the table and walked forward, offering to help me with my bag. I was surprised at the kind gesture, but I still let him carry it anyway without uttering a single word. I walked behind him, shutting the door as I took a last glance at the house that was starting to feel familiar despite spending
“Hi there…” Reid said, waving awkwardly. I coughed and almost choked on my pasta. I mean, I did place an internal bet with myself that he was going to show up the instant he saw his dad's health improve, but I wasn't expecting him to be so fast in seeking me out. I walked vacw“What are you doing there?” I asked. Obviously, I knew what he was doing here, but it wouldn't hurt to play along. I opened the door a little wider for him so he could step inside.“Just another personal thank you for your help,” he said, sitting awkwardly on the couch across from me. I sat down and focused on my pasta.“The medicine worked, Valerie,” he said with a smile. I hadn't mentioned this before, but I had given him a fake name during those few days I spent in his pack. Mentioning my full government name can make him remember the female alpha of a certain pack his father destroyed.“I suppose that's a good thing, but it's not a permanent thing; you might have to find something constant for him,” I said,
“He's not going to make it right?” Reid said the instant we walked out of his dad's room. I looked up at his sad face, and the urge to ruthlessly tell him that his dad wasn't going to make it came over me, but I pushed it down. Maybe I can go on with it in a nicer way.“I saw the way you looked at him…there's no hope,” he said and let out a sad laugh. I was quiet.“The medicine I gave him can only make sure he doesn't go through much pain and sustain his life for a little more time, but it can't do more than that,” I said, and I was surprised when I actually reached out and patted his shoulder. He seemed equally surprised as he looked down at me. I realized at that instant that he really was tall, as I always found myself looking up anytime I had to look at his face.I didn't know how long I stood there, my hands on his shoulder as I kept staring at his eyes. There was something about them that felt as if I stared at it for way too long, I was going to disappear in their swirling dept

My eyes fluttered open, and I winced as bright light almost blinded my vision. I closed my eyes immediately, raising my hands over my face.I heard a faint sigh and the sound of someone pulling the curtains down. I dropped my hand slowly as I observed my surroundings. The room looked expensive. It was furnished with things that probably cost more than anything I owned. The sweet scent of something hit me immediately. It was a delicious scent of rain, earth, and forest. I finally realized where it was coming from. It was Reid's scent. I've never been near a werewolf whose scent was this overwhelming, not even my dad.I tried to sit up, and I immediately winced at the sharp pain. Reid was at my bedside in seconds.“Easy there, you broke a few ribs from your impact with the tree.” My eyes almost fell out of their socket.Broken ribs? Those fools were paid to give me a few injuries, not totally kill me off. I gritted my teeth as I tried to sit up. Reid's hands gently found mine. My breat
SUMMERS HARTLEY “Definitely, the balance will be sent once the job is completed,” he said and hung up, slipping his phone into his back pocket. The apartment was dimly lit, making it difficult for me to see past a few meters in front of me, but somehow I managed to see Axel's face. His jaw was set hard as he clenched his fist, as if trying to control himself.“The plan is already set, cupcake,” he said, walking up to me with a sad smile and ruffling my hair.“Are you sure you wanna do this? I mean, we can always find a way to go about making sure Derek suffers the consequences of his actions. I don't feel comfortable sending you all alone to someone as ruthless as that fool,” he let out a sigh and removed his glasses, pinching the bridge of his nose as if he was trying not to break down.“I've never been so sure of anything in my life, Uncle. I'm going to be fine. I didn't spend years preparing for this day to just give up now. You don't have to worry about me, ok? I'm just a human g
