Six months.

That was how long it had been since Ronan had pulled me from the edge of death, since I'd run from Lucien. Almost two weeks had passed since the second trials ended, marking me as something halfway between an heir and an outcast.

And now… this.

I lay curled on my side, one hand pressed protectively over my protruding belly, as I sensed the signs of life within me. The twins. My twins.

But also Lucien’s children.

The thought always made my stomach curl with a mix of anger, and fierce protectiveness. They weren't just mine but they were Lucien's also they would bear his mark forever. But I'd never let him find them. They were mine. And no one—absolutely no one was going to take them from me.

It was nearly midnight. As the wind whistled, blowing the curtains in every direction, I took slow breaths, trying to calm the feeling of unease that had been creeping over me all day for some reason.
