**MYRKON**

The shout went up first, then the answering chorus of whistles and creaking ropes.

“Another ship’s coming in,” someone called outside.

From Lena’s shop, Catherine glanced up from the hem she was pinning just as the noise from the harbor swelled.

She could only see the top third of the harbor, but it was enough to catch the sight of a sail being lowered, canvas billowing once before collapsing into the waiting arms of the crew.

The Eirene? Is Nico back already?

She squinted, trying to

**ELDORIA**The preparations for the Drakonhelm trip were fully underway now, hence the several meetings at the palace.Maps of Drakonhelm and Eldoria lay spread across the long table. Pins marked ports and cities; neat tags labeled palaces, halls, routes.A clerk had set out small stacks of documents at each place, ready for signatures and memorized phrases.King Arthur sat near the head, flanked by two of his senior advisors. Alden stood a little back from his shoulders.Across from

**MYRKON**Lena caught sight of Nico first.“Oh no,” she said, hands on her hip. “Not you again. I see you more often than my paying customers.”Nico laughed as he leaned in the doorway. “That’s a terrible way to greet the man who brings you stories from places you’ll never bother to visit,” he said. “And I pay. Mostly.”“You pay late,” Lena countered. “And with coins that smell like fish.”“That’s just the perfume of honest work,” he said. Then, he turned to Catherine, giving her a mock-formal bow. “Well, hello, miss.”She rolled her eyes but smiled. “Welcome back,” she said. “How was the journey this time?”“Wet,” he said. “And loud. The waves argued with each other most of the way. But overall, a splendid and productive sail.”He came to lean against the side of Catherine’s worktable, careful not to disturb the neat rows of folded garments.“You look tired,” she said.“You look like you’ve been sewing the same shirt since I left,” he replied. She held up the shirt in question. “If

**ELDORIA**Seren had met Rafe to help him disguise as a guard so he could blend easily with them while asking unsuspecting questions. He adjusted the borrowed uniform coat on his shoulders as he followed Rafe into the guardroom. It smelled of sweat, metal oil, and the sour tang of old ale soaked into wood.“It’s their break time,” Rafe murmured under his breath. “You’ve got until the bell.”“I won’t need that long,” Seren replied. He let Rafe go ahead, letting his friend’s easy familiarity lead the way. He was a part of them afterall.Men greeted him with nods, a clap to the shoulder.“Rafe!” one called from a bench near the back. “Come to teach us how to sleep with our eyes open again?”“Trade secret,” Rafe shot back. “You lot couldn’t afford my rates.”Laughter rolled through the room, loose and unselfconscious. Mugs clinked. Someone tossed a crust of bread at Rafe; he caught it one‑handed and took a bite.Seren scanned faces. He’d done his homework. The men he needed were on this

**ELDORIA**Alden’s eyes flicked to the column paper in the King’s hand.“Unfortunate,” he said. “But perhaps not as precise as it feels from in here. The city has been buzzing ever since the maid disappeared. People do love to exaggerate what they think they know.”“Exaggeration requires a seed,” Arthur said. “We have to cut the supply that waters the seed.”Alden kept his posture open.“With respect, Your Majesties,” he said. “It may not be one person. Servants talk to cousins. Cousins talk to neighbors. A phrase overheard in a corridor becomes a story retold in a tavern. By the time it reaches Merren’s ears, it is a river, not a leak.”Charlotte watched him carefully.Arthur frowned. “So, you think this is just… ambient gossip?”“I think,” Alden continued. “..that if there were a deliberate mole in your inner circle, we would see more than hints. We would see details like names, dates, and direct accusations. This, however, reads like a man who has heard gossip and dressed it in ni

**ELDORIA**Isla softly on the door of Katarina’s chamber.“Come in,” Katarina called.Isla walked in carrying a stack of neatly ordered papers and a sealed letter.“Good morning, Your Highness,” she said. “The latest papers are here. And this letter came with the Drakonhelm seal from home.”Katarina set aside the jeweled hair comb she’d been pretending to examine and straightened in her chair by the window.“Thank you,” she said. “Put them here.”Isla crossed the room and laid the bundle gently on the small writing table. Her movements were as composed as always, but Katarina, who knew her better than most, saw the tiny tension at the corner of her mouth. She picked up the letter first. The seal was her mother’s—Margaret’s crest pressed into dark wax, the impression slightly smudged as if applied in haste. Why is Mother sending me a private letter? she thought to herself. She broke the seal and opened the letter. My dearest Katarina,Your father and I have received your last letter a

**MYRKON**Elizabeth’s hand paused halfway through buttoning her sleeve. She was getting ready to leave for work that morning.“What did you say?” she asked.Catherine’s fingers were still pressed to the place low on her belly where it had happened. The sensation lingered there in her memory. She hadn’t been able to sleep as she kept waiting to see if she would feel it again.“I felt them,” she whispered. “Last night. Like three times. It was like… little taps.” Her throat tightened. “I felt my baby, ma.”For a moment, Elizabeth just stared. “Come here.”
